  1. You are right, but i think applying the term "front-runner" to fans, like myself, who are abandoning this year's football season is a bit hasty. Im a huge zips fan and even I am having a hard time justifying taking off work on saturdays to go to the games. As a college student, money is a big deal, but I was willing to take those days off to go to the game. Now... it is making more sense to work instead of going to the game. Ill still follow the zips and see how things go, but Im not going to the games this year. Just isn't worth it. And yes, I will be at a lot of soccer games this year, partially because they are a proven perennial winner, but also because I love the atmosphere and energy at the games, something I desperately wish we had with football. Something to consider: If OSU were to hit hard times and be sub-.500 at this point in the season, how would things look then? Would the stadium still sell out? Would all those "fans" still be fans? What if they had a stretch of 3 years that were sub-par? Something to think about since I am certain the same reasons would come up for those fans there as they are here. Oh... to keep this post relevant, it still baffles me how OSU's soccer coach could be so incredible ignorant. Glad to see its getting some big exposure not because it was OSU, but because it was a fully-warranted red card. That type of unsportsmanlike conduct should be met with suspension.
  2. I distinctly remember your wonderful cheerleaders at the game on saturday spelling Can't State with their little signs. It was all going well until they hoisted up the cheerleaders and spelled "S.U.K." Classic Can't State spelling.
  3. I hope that you understand that your dual allegiances puts you in a precarious position regarding many zips fans here. It may be wise in situations such as these not to say anything, including posting emoticons. Unless "poking the fire" is something you like to do, then by all means keep on poking. I just think a lot of ill will would be avoided that way.
  4. When your band needs microphones, amps, and speakers to be heard across a over-glorified high school stadium, you have issues. Hell, my High school band is smaller than theirs and they're louder than that without the aid of audio equipment. Our band has a great sound and you can ALWAYS hear them. Hell, you can hear them outside the stadium 500+ feet away during their performances.
  5. Vote ends Nov. 14, you can vote once every day (presumably more often if you use different browsers/computers in a single day). Get to it! http://www.seniorclassaward.com/news/view/...vision_i_mens_/
  6. Dont get me wrong, I love the Zips and I would do everything I can to support them, but Im finding it harder and harder to not only get others, but myself motivated to watch these debacles. I just don't feel like watching this crap. I hate to say it, but at least during the JD era there was some level of competitiveness where I felt we HAD a chance to win. That was exciting, it was entertaining (to some extent), and sometimes landed us a win. Now.... nothing is there. I cant even be entertained by competitiveness because its non-existent. I'm sorry, but the football team has lost me this year. All I have to say is that if it weren't for the Soccer and Basketball teams, I may have given up on the zips all together. I will still be at every soccer game, and as many basketball games as I can (I'm sure Ill have to miss some), but football has been removed from my calendar. Ill keep the ESPN ScoreCenter notifications on my iPhone to let me know how we do, but thats the extent of how much I care. Instead of going to the games now, Ill work on Saturdays to fund a trip to Santa Barbara, CA
  7. Call me a front-runner, call me a bandwagoner, call me a fair-weather fan all you want, but right now as a student I have ZERO motivation to go to any football games. The worst part: Im sure 99% of the student body feels that way too and I'm one of the more diehard fans on campus. I was there for the embarrassment at the hands of Syracuse. I was there for the meltdown at the hands of GW. I was there at the downright shelling at the hands of NIU. Im done. This is my 4th year of Zips football and Im done. I cannot bring myself to willingly leave my house, which is only 3 blocks away from the stadium, brave the cold weather and sit in the stands for 2 hours while I watch my team get decimated by anyone who's willing to walk through the gates, potentially including the Can't State Dance Team. Hell, Id rather go to a Browns game than a Zips game because at least the Browns are competitive and CAN win games. Will the zips go winless this year: NO. They will win a game or two, but by chance and luck. I have seen NOTHING from this team or coaching staff to make me believe we might deserve to be the favorite for any of our remaining games, much less WIN a game by pure talent.
  8. His would say Can't read, Can't write Can't coach.... http://instantrimshot.com/index.php?sound=...t&play=true
  9. http://www.gozips.com//ViewArticle.dbml?DB...TCLID=205004156 May want to read that over before heading out. I agree that if you're going to the soccer match(es), park in the exchange decks. Since they'll have all 4 gates open, youll be able to get to the field easily. If the University has this planned right, Soccer parking will be contained to the exchange deck, Wine/Gold parking to east campus deck, and the Akron City Series game to Lot 9 and any remaining parking around the stadium.
  10. The earlier the better, but I dont think itll sell out, so you should be good either way. Obviously the prime spots will fill up first. If you want to be able to see the action and hear everything going on from the Rowdies, id go for the west stands. If you want to be part of the rowdiness, go for the east stands. Downside to the east stands is that you wont be able to see the near goal that well due to the students.
  11. I wouldnt consider giving MR a chance until we enter conference play. Jumping ship on our QB when 3 of our first 4 games are against decent BCS teams isn't giving PN7 the time he needs to fully develop under this new system. Like it or not, those BCS teams are a lot better than we are. Yes, GW was a game he should have excelled in, but I think 1 bad game in a winnable situation so far is acceptable. Give the man a chance to play 1 or two conference teams and re-evaluate once he's played more games against a more comparable opponent. And for the record, I am not on the PN7 bandwagon
  12. Are you really suggesting that the NCAA actually instructed a soccer referee to purposely make biased calls against UA? (More broadly, are you really suggesting that the NCAA cares about soccer?) Get a grip people, the official was indeed lousy yesterday, but the cries of "The NCAA is out to get us" everytime something remotely bad happens are getting ridiculous. I guess my sarcasm wasn't as obvious as I thought it. my bad.
  13. Does it surprise anyone? God forbid the NCAA has a lowly school like Akron #1 in the rankings. After the royal shafting in 2008, I expect the worst from the NCAA and officials.
  14. Number is right, background is right, but that doesn't look like him at all... very interesting lol
  15. I happened to take this picture this morning while getting some breakfast at the union. The iPhone doesnt like to take brighter pictures apparently Oh and in case you can't tell, they were mowing the grass there today, so Id say that field handled all that rain PERFECTLY fine.
  16. Shouldn't have skipped math class. You lose out on about $40,000 first off. Second, the reason the ACME-Zip game (please search it on here) went away is that the school was losing money and not sustaining a fan base after the game. Therefore it was pointless to do. Unless, of course, you factor in an average of $20 per person spent in food and/or parking at the stadium: $5 Tickets: $5 x 30,000 = $150,000 $20 x 30,000 = $600,000 Total = $750,000 $20 Tickets: $20 x 5,000 = $100,000 $20 x 5,000 = $100,000 Total = $200,000 $2 Tickets: $2 x 30,000 = $60,000 $20 x 30,000 = $600,000 Total = $660,000 And before you argue that not everyone will spend $20, remember that some people will spend much more, making an average of $20 per person pretty fair. Youre numbers assume that 30k people would actually show up for said $2/$5 ticket games. I would be hard pressed to believe that. 20-25k is about the max considering the sorry state of affairs.
  17. +1 Theyre the one team Id pay (even as a student) to watch their a$$es handed to them by our Zips.
  18. the dude they found for that halftime contest thing for the Syracuse game last week looked better...
  19. well.. I am sure I wont be the first and definitely not the last when I say that WE SUCK. 100% chokejob. Way to go coach I...
  20. yup. I got there right around when he left. Everyone was going nuts. I couldnt have cared less. Facebook about blew up from everyone freaking out too.
  21. I see what you are saying. However, they need to make a lot more rule and structural changes than just this one. I don't think this levels the playing field with BCS schools in a meaningful way. It would help gather some transfers, but they would just be the guys who couldn't play at the bcs level so there would still be a difference in talent. It would generate some separation between I-AA and non-bcs schools, but not in a meaningful way. I would like to see more structural changes in the NCAA. We get that, but realistically speaking theres almost no chance of that happening in the near future. If anything, this type of policy has a better chance of happening than a complete restucturing of the Div1A of NCAA football.
  22. In an unfair system, its a very reasonable way to give the lower level conferences a chance to be more competitive. However, schools like TCU and Boise wouldn't benefit at all given their recent successes (esp in the polls). Not that they really matter since they've been able to recruit very good talent without being a BCS team. Either way, this is a win-win situation from what I can tell. It'd be great to see this enacted soon.
