  1. Got to Akron early to get my student ticket before they had any chance of running out. After the cluster**** of parking on campus and wasting 15 minutes finding somewhere to park, I made the walk over to the JAR. I was pleasantly surprised to see a line to the ticket office for people getting tickets.Students had their own table to go to... and when I went to get my ticket, I was given this (sorry for the crappy iphone pic):[begin Rant]I was then given the instructions that I was to wear this until the game on the 12th. This is a NON-REMOVABLE wristband. I have to wear this for 2 weeks through countless showers, work, and everyday use. To get into the game on the 12th, I must have this wristband on me along with my Zip Card.Honestly, who thought this was a good idea? I know... beggars can't be choosers if we want to get 5000 students to be at each game, but this was an idea only someone at Akron could have come up with. I plan on looking into a way for me to be able to take it off and put it back on for the game. Its probably going to involve a fine-toothed saw and some epoxy glue... but until then...Hopefully the smart folks over in the Athletic Department catch wind of this and come up with a better solution for the Indiana game. I don't want to have to wear 2 wristbands for a week for 2 different games. [/rant]
  2. So wait... you are admitting that these rankings have no real bearing on the quality of the education received, rather reflect how much federal funding the institution receives and how "pretty" the school looks to those who rank the institutions?
  3. Thats my thinking... many have been bombarded with OSU merchandise that its the only gear they have right now thats even collegiate-themed. With the new team shop and (hopefully) an expansion of available merchandise to area retailers, that should change soon.
  4. jupitertoo,THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHOWING ME THE LIGHT! I never knew I was going to such a pathetic school! All this time I thought the campus improvements were a reflection of the academics that the university provides, but you came and saved the day! As I speak I am putting the papers together to make my transfer over to OU as you have undoubtedly shown that OU is the place to be for academics! Screw athletics and all that hoopla, I wanna go to a school thats ranked high on countless lists that have absolutely nothing to do with intangibles of a college.I truly appreciate the service you have provided me. Without your help... I may have graduated from UA with a degree in CIS, only to realize it is worth nothing compared to the prestige and pedigree of an OU degree!Sincerely, UA Student Who Couldn't Care Less What You Have to Say
  5. Im holding off to buy anything until the team shop is completed. Last I heard they are expanding their line of available merchandise for it.
  6. ... and to think I was impressed with the little ornery UA student taking a leak on the Can't logo!Nice work! HAD to 'Right mouse click, save image as ...' on those! I use a piece of freeware called Wallmaster to change my XP wallpaper every few minutes. Added a few of your pics to the rotation - I hope that's OK.Your Fall assignment is to do the same of The Info! Thank you!If you were running Windoes 7, that feature would be built in ;)love the pictures... I need to teach myself how to do that so more of my dusk/dawn photos come out better. I agree... get some of the Info!
  7. Not gonna lie, but using YouTube as a means to communicate with fans is a fantastic idea and I truly hope this is the beginning of much more to come. Probably the best thing he could have done within the week of being named the new AD was reach out to the fans, and he did just that. Im very interested to see how the next couple weeks will go and what will happen in the marketing area. Now if we could just get that camera lens cleaned....
  8. when did that go up?? I didnt see it when I was at the SU today
  9. anyone care to post pictures of what they look like? im kinda interested to see how these things look
  10. I heard that answer a little differently than you I think. He said (paraphrasing) "I'm not coming into this job thinking about my next job .. it's not how I do things"I couldnt remember the exact quote; sorry if I botched it. :-\ At first I thought that *maybe* there is a glimmer of hope that he's here for the long-run, but I honestly can't believe anything he says right now when, historically, we can't seem to keep an AD for much longer than half a decade. Im not knocking Tom at all and fully believe he is what our Athletic department needs to really expand its visibility in the community, but I am just not sold on the notion of a guy of his stature sticking around at a mid-major.
  11. Watched the press conference... A reporter (possibly rasor? couldn't tell) asked Tom, rather directly, if he planned on staying here long-term and he answered that he is and would not be looking at another job while at this one. I give the guy 3 years, 4 if we're lucky.
  12. hard to notice on the web cams, but drove by the stadium and they have started the brickwork on the new dorms.
  13. I too somewhat feel that it is appropriate that the state championship games should be played next door to the Hall of Fame. It feels just too.. right. I don't want to take away from that because its just appropriate that state championship games be played at the location of the NFL Hall of Fame. No other state has that, why not use that?Perhaps we'd be able to do what canton and massilon do right now... aka split the championship games between the two venues? Its the only way I could see us hosting state football championship games.
  14. I dont see any reason why it wouldnt... not like they have to compete with an airport nearby. Only airspace issue I can think of is the occasional life-flight helicopters that fly over UA heading to the hospitals around the city.
  15. I was under the impression that walk-on tryouts weren't happening till this week/weekend? I could be wrong, but I thought that is what I remembered reading somewhere.
  16. I didn't see the commercial, but I wonder if a crappy commercial could have a negative effect on potential ticket buyers? A lame-o commercial may communicate to people we have a lame-o product? But... tv is uber important. I'm glad for the report of a tv sighting! It wasn't a lame-o commercial. it was nice and definitely did its job well, but I somewhat felt it lacked that little extra that gets people excited and makes them pick up the phone to buy tickets. In retrospect, I think it may have been that the commercial didn't have a song accompanying the video that had that "epic" feeling to it.As far as the effect of the commercial... I dont think it will have a negative impact at all. If anything it will help since it aired during prime TV hours (during an Browns game to all of NE Ohio). Some may think like I have and say it was little lacking, but the message and principle of the commercial still were very cleanly laid out. Im hoping someone else in the area had a chance to see it. I also hope someone is able to find/get a copy on youtube to share with everyone.
  17. Happened to see a commercial for the new stadium while watching the Browns' preseason game tonight. It was very nice to see a TV ad during a time slot such as an NFL game... but the quality of the commercial was very lacking. Seemed kinda cheap, IMO, but I am more than happy just to see a TV ad. Ill gripe about the quality of the commercial once they've become more common.
  18. i just noticed that myself... its a very nice and classy touch!i spy with my little eye a glowing A-Roo atop the scoreboard
  19. any hydrogen bombs... don't forget those.
  20. So let me get this straight... you came HERE to troll our threads and find every conceivable way (true or not) to prove that OU is far superior to Akron. You started with some simple facts (sources would have gone a long way, fella), but now you've resorted to taking shots at things that aren't even relevant to the discussion.I think someone is a bit desperate to prove a point nobody cares about. But if thats your cup of tea, then more power to ya!
  21. Hey idiot...read your own post....put your stuff in the area between the rows of parking spaces.1) dial down the harshness...2) its not very clear to where it IS permitted. I would assume the area between the rows is the place for everything, but wouldnt that be impeding vehicle traffic? Im only curious to what they are "defining" as the acceptable area...
  22. I can tell you first-hand that the cops will be enforcing a "cant see, won't ask" policy... meaning, if you have plastic cups, theres a very high chance they won't care what it is you're consuming (as long as youre not making an a$$ of yourself). However, it you have cans, bottles, or any other items that have direct connotations to the consumption of alcohol, the cops will come by and make sure nobody there is underage or piss drunk. For those who are wondering, here's a direct link the UA's Tailgating info page:http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_...TCLID=204775851http://www.gozips.com//pdf4/633143.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=10800Some thoughts...They mention in the tailgating section that you cannot have things that impede the flow of pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the lots... which is understandable... but go on to say you cannot put tailgating equipment in vacant spots? Call me an idiot if you wish, but if you can put your stuff in the area between the rows of parking spaces and you cant put it in the spot next to you, where are you going to put it?
  23. I also see some blue pads going on the south wall... A little better than blank concrete
