  1. You must be sitting in one of those areas.I think it is ridiculous that it would be served in some areas (for those with more $$), but not in others. All or nothing.Id be grateful they're even offering it period. Sure that means forking over bigger $$$ to gain access to it... but let's be real here people... this is a COLLEGE venue... not a Professional Sports venue. Selling alcohol in a public concession stand at a college football game is a major liability to the University. With it being restricted to those who have club seats, it allows the University's concessions staff to more effectively control the consumption of alcohol. Get a beer before the game, enjoy the game, go get another beer. Go to OBC and support local businesses and help make downtown Akron a better place to be.
  2. I agree... but at the same time, an arena in downtown Akron isn't as "off-campus" one might think. With the Polsky building and West Campus parking deck in downtown Akron along with a decent chunk of students living in the new 22 Exchange apartments, the University is as much a part of downtown as the city is. Heres my thinking with "off-campus": If I can walk to the arena from the middle of campus in less than 10 minutes, it's not Off-campus. Any more than that and UA would be doing the exact opposite that ICS is doing.Could we build a new arena in the footprint of the JAR? Sure... but space would be EXTREMELY limited. Aside from the space on E Mill & Summit St, there's no other location other than where the JAR is that the University could even build a suitable arena and still be within an easy walk from campus. However, I agree with Dambrot. Let's sell out the JAR before we think about a new arena.
  3. I do what I can to shine a better light on UA. When relatives call it Akron University, I promptly remind them its "THE University of Akron". I have been bugging my family to come down for the 1st game in the new stadium for months. Hopefully they'll do it.I also try to do the same thing about the City of Akron. My aunt constantly reminds me about all the crime in Akron. I try to tell her its not as bad as everyone cracks it up to be. Yes, there's crime and violence, but the reason it seems like there's so much of it is because of the media. They jump at the chance to publish every negative story they can get their hands on. Ever notice how much the news is all bad news and not good news? Granted thats because Americans generally like to hear about the problems in the world and couldn't care less about the good in this world, but it still doesn't change the fact that today's media magnifies our world's issues ten-fold.
  4. I really like how Mack is getting credit for the stadium and field house... stadium? I can understand that, but field house? last I checked that was already in the process of being built when he showed up...
  5. from a classmate... actually... hahawas sitting in class surfing the web. saw him on this site and checked out. registered and here i am. I dont think i remember anything from that class, come to think of it...
  6. i was looking at that exact same place. probably the next best place that isn't off-campus
  7. from what I recall, the one plan actually called for the arena to sit in the area from E state to E Exchange, which includes this building. This news, in essence, kills the idea of the arena in that area. In fact, this really kills the idea of a new arena for the forseeable future. Theres nowhere else that would work that i can see.
  8. I think that works out to be sections: 116-120, 215-220 plus whatever the south grass zone is numbered/named.
  9. I would laugh hysterically if they put up some temporary, fake light poles.... just for good time's sakeill take your word for it that the color of the turf isnt as.... bland as it appears to be.What about 6 of these guys?Wacky waiving inflatable arm flailing tube manI had to.Actually, i'd still laugh.Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Zippy?
  10. exactly. I like this plan a lot... less trips to cleveland and offers those lower-ranked schools a chance to have 1 big game at home at the end of the season.cant believe im saying it, but i think the MAC actually did do something that made sense for once...
  11. I would laugh hysterically if they put up some temporary, fake light poles.... just for good time's sakeill take your word for it that the color of the turf isnt as.... bland as it appears to be.
  12. please tell me this isnt how the turf will look once finished...other than that, GREAT PICS!
  13. Beer is good....... Beer before a college football game is good....... Beer in a college football stadium with potential underage drinking being reported is bad..... Beer could cause an ugly scene..... No beer in the stadium. Let the girls sneak it in their bras like they do at every other school. One mini-bottle at a time. Beer after a college football game is good..........How many on-campus stadiums around the country sell beer? There's only a handful that I know of and one them Wake Forest is actually a mile off campus. Whole conferences like the SEC alcohol is banned at all SEC sporting events. That's means even at off campus venues and bowl games involving SEC teams. Alcohol is not sold. UofA is dry campus and they'll have to admend that just so the skyboxes can serve it.I could be wrong. But, I seriously doubt there will be beer sales in the Info. gotta agree here. Definite conflict of interests if the trustees approve beer sales at an on-campus college stadium. this is a college stadium, not a professional football stadium.
  14. are you referring to the order in which the forums are listed? if so, the admins/mods rotate the forum that correlates to the current or upcoming season to the top since it's considered most important and should be at the top.
  15. from what i have seen in my time at the campus the last 2 years, the football team seems to practice in the fieldhouse more than anywhere else. this is probably a good idea as it leaves the outdoor practice field open for intramural sports for the students and a lot of time for other fall sports like soccer to practice. I think i could count on 2 hands the number of times ive seen the football team on the outdoor practice field.
  16. exactly... what kind of crap is this? im not about to spend money on season tickets to get my scarf when i get in for free...
  17. it was going to be built using gold plated remnants of the rubber bowl
  18. just decided to look back... they must be going with the original plan for the scoreboard. From what was shown in the stadium model presented a couple of months ago, this scoreboard looks nothing like it...http://www.uakron.edu/development/images/t...dium1forweb.jpg
  19. Getting close...turf is the next step:http://www.prograssturf.com/Product/InstallProcess.aspxthat video is PERFECT. This is exactly what we all needed to see so we understood where the turf install stood at. Props for the link
  20. short answer: nolong answer: noooooooooooooooooseriously tho, I really dont want out beautiful new stadium being nicknamed "The Pouch". Im sorry, but something about that name just screams.... weird things. The nicknames for the other facilities ("The Jack, the JAR, etc) stem from their official names. Nicknaming a stadium after something not even remotely close to the actual name of the stadium gets really iffy. I know there are exceptions, but for now, let's stick with The Info.
  21. im not entirely sure how you want us to interpret that...the way I understood it is, in Indiana's view, our game against them isn't a sure-thing win.
  22. There is something else to be said about the walk... hopefully once things settle in, businesses that are located along the major avenues people will be walking to the stadium will start creating their own addition to the atmosphere with Zips decorations, pregame parties... events like that. It'll make that walk from downtown a little more of an adventure than just a walk.
  23. If you use it for your own personal corn hole board, no one will care. In fact it is probably encouraged. If you use the images and sell your custom Zips corn hole boxes, then someone might get pissed.Ohhhhhh okay. I was more or less concerned with going to someone who prints graphics like that and running into legal problems with them doing the work. Thanks for the heads up.Dr. Z, thanks for the file. I am going to have to wait till I get my other computer set up again as I dont have the right software on my laptop. I am going to try to get the FTR logo converted into a vector image, but I have no idea how thats going to go. Thanks for the info you sent me though!I plan on starting work on the boards sometime this week. Ill try to keep you guys posted on how things are going.
  24. I voted to the mac championship because winning the east doesn't mean anything very significant right now. It all depends on how good of competition the East is this year and how everyone's records turns out. If the east has a bad year (unlikely but possible), then winning the east may not be that great of an achievement. On the other hand, though, if the east is very strong, then winning it would be huge. I think we have a legit chance to make it to the MAC championship this year, but its soo hard to tell right now how things will shape up in the east.
