I didn't say won but competes... big difference.

Yup... gotta love High School Sports.I remember reading about that a couple of weeks ago. It's amazing the amount of money that school has. Then again, when you have a nationally recognized program and are an annual competitor for the D1 State Championship, money tends to be thrown at you.Amazing, nonetheless...

I dont know if we have tickets but i would just go down there. No worries on selling out, a decent amount of students might show up for them but with the Suckeyes/Michigan game i doubt any alumni or others will be making the trip to athens from the surrounding areas. You will for sure get a good seat and probably a cheap ticket.I doubt there will be many students there at all, even if it wasn't OSU/Mich weekend. A close friend of mine goes to school there and he just came back home this week because OU just finished its Fall Quarter (exams were last week) and they are off until early Januaray, meaning that the vast majority of students have probably already left for break.

Akron the most affordable college town in America
tbozeglav replied to ZachTheZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
yes, but to a college kid, the more affordable the education is, the more attractive it becomes... however that is assuming they are even considering akron in the first place because they have interest in one of our programs, but if they are interested and are looking at affordability, it makes us look better...but yeah, you're right for the most part. -
correct me if I am wrong, but I think they meant they filled the north and south bleachers... I was not there so I cannot speak from experience, but thats what my guess is... even so, that means there were roughly 200 rowdies there... The sad part is that there are supposedly 1200 students signed up for the rowdies and we can only pull 1/6th of the members to be there for a game?? At the mandatory meeting in the JAR earlier this year, the rowdies filled up the lower west bleaches AND most of the upper west bleachers... we need to get ALL those students out for basketball...

Don't let this kid slip past us to Can't
tbozeglav replied to Big Zip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
talk about a slap to the face... -
You would hope... But not having a single win against a quality opponent doesn't bode well for us.

Id much rather go support a team who is in the playoffs and have a good chance of going all the way than going to a hoops regular season game against a non-conference opponent. Now, if I can do both, I will, but if I have to make the choice, I'll go watch soccer right now than basketball

Zips Recruiting Update
tbozeglav replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Thats good to hear that its already making an impact. -
You bring up the most widely reported reason for soccer-hating. What I like to say to the person (usually reporter) who makes that statement is this -- especially if the person is a baseball fan: "I suppose then that the worst possible thing for you is if you went to a baseball game, and there was a, uh, no-hitter?" Touche, sir... touche..No, I know there are differences, but for the most part they are alike. The point wasnt the specifics... just the generalizations of each sport

A look at the webcams today shows that it looks like they're digging out the dirt ramp from exchange down into the bowl. I guess they will be using the constructed ramp from Spicer from here on out? I would guess so.

football is the money king. No other sport in our country brings in the revenue that football does, especially college football.Don't get me wrong, I love Akron's soccer and I make an effort to go to every home game I can (along with a few road trips if there's a bunch of rowdies going) and they are always a great time. The REAL issue with soccer vs football (not to be confused with futbol ) is the scoring. Americans have an infatuation with scoring. Ever notice how low-scoring games seem to generally make people bored? It's because we as Americans love to see high-scoring, offensive games. Soccer rarely provides that. There are exceptions. For example, 2 regular season games this year, the Zips soccer team blew out visitors, putting up at least 6 goals in each game. Those games were probably more exciting for everyone because, like I have mentioned, Americans love scoring. Soccer, in it's truest form, does not yield many high-scoring games. It's not just Soccer. Baseball.. hockey.. both the same. If you watch ESPN a lot during those seasons, you'll notice the media focuses more on offensive producers than defensive. It's all because of the fact that, plain and simple, offense sells tickets.

considering our record at home this season, I don't blame them
-
You know.. that is something many people have been overlooking. The Zips have been performing exceptionally well on the road. Normally going on the road is the toughest part, but Akron has shown they have the swagger to go into someone else's house and come out with a win. Now, having 1 win at home all season is not good at all, but the road wins show this team has the potential to be real good.

whats wrong with night games?

Like others have said... Saturdays bring out the big crowds... plain and simple

I couldnt stop laughing at that when I was at the Can't game this year. I think my highschool band was as big (if not bigger) and was still louder. My favorite part was the sousaphone players all huddled around this one mic playing into it like a bunch of hobos huddling around a garbage can fire in the middle of January.God I love Can't. Always doing something to make my day that much better.

I'm gonna be rowdie'ed out by the end of the weekend...

I think people need to stop making that assumption. We all know what everyone means. That new stadium will give the University a better appeal to recruits. That in turn produces better on-the-field talent and thus puts us in a better position to win more games. Not only that, but the new stadium will make the University more appealing to more students and help revive alumni support. Now, I dont know this will happen for sure, but you can bet that there's a darn good chance it will...as for your Bengals/Cincy comparison... that does not apply here. The NFL doesn't recruit talent - they select it. They choose who they want to get on their teams. In college, you have to CONVINCE student athletes why they should come here. It's ultimately THEIR decision where they go to play, NOT the university's. That being said, the new stadium WILL make UA that much more appealing to prospects and recruits, which will in turn help produce better talent on the field and, hopefully, more wins.

Couldn't agree more. I think this program has come a long way. The next step that this program needs to take is to actually WIN those big games. That's when we know that Akron Football has come full circle.I could see that happening as soon as next season. It actually should happen next year. The INFO will help contribute to this future success.Yes, but it SHOULD have happened this year. This was the year to make that move. We were the team nobody thought would win. A successful season before moving to a new stadium would be HUGE for confidence and attendance. Those 3 games were within reach and we let them go. Yes, next year everything will be different. It's an entirely new ballgame for us moving to that new stadium. And yes, that does mean we will now have everything we need to compete on the big stage. However a new stadium shouldnt be the catalyst for success. How do you think Akron got to D1-A in the first place? We won games and made a name for ourselves. What is done is done and we cannot change it. Those 3 games should have been wins for us, but we didn't execute when we needed to. Thats water under the bridge now. We need to focus on the last 2 games, hope for a bowl, and then look forward to our bright future in the new stadium. Hopefully we can open the new facility with a win...

We thought about it... we wanted too. Too bad there were at least 4 event staff and 5 cops in front of us... even had a freaking K-9 unit ready and waiting. Idunno about you, but Im not going to try and challenge that.

Unfortunately in the 3-3-5 you have undersized guys trying to do the tackling. In a 4-3 you get some bigger guys near the line and viola...better tackling. I watched our 5 last night a lot. As a whole they look like they are still lost. Out of position a LOT.I've seen four DB's cover much better than our five (too many cooks in the kitchen.) We are wasting a position on the field. We are constantly undermanned and over matched on the line. Change the scheme.I think it's time this little experiment comes to an end. I want to see what a good 4-3 would be able to with our personnel.

No problem. Too bad UA's attempt to spruce up the place a bit (see above) was a little too little too late. Nice touches though ...i quite literally fell out of my chair lauhging

#1 for sure. You simply cannot win a game when you allow an offense to have the confidence buffalo had on 4th down.
