I think that it would be a good idea to start a show like that . As long as you have an high-speed connection and an mic, you can have an show and it's free!!!! Just a thought(see thread on national exposure)Keep in mind that my show is current events and politics. If anyone wanted to listen:www.blogtalkradio.com/lance99

I think the experience of watching the Zips inside the new stadium will easily overcome the traffic and parking situation. People will learn pretty quickly what works best for them...park & shuttle, park and stroll thru campus, arrive early & tailgate, etc. The biggest problem early on may be a traffic jam on Route 8 at the campus exits (if Rte. 8 thru traffic is impeded the whiners will be screaming bloody murder on ohio.com). People will learn to use Wolf Ledges or South Main instead. Slow traffic and having to walk will make people feel like they're attending an important event, which they are People will adapt, most people will park on the streets around the stadium, unless the city starts enforcing laws on parking

I was just wondering because on my radio show on Blogtalkradio.com, I sign off with "remember as always fear the Roo." My question is: has anyone tried to do a radio show that just talked about Akron sports?
-
gotta get the big tamale for that... otherwise it's regional at best, and fleeting.Hell, even national exposure is fickle.I would even settle for some regional exposure right now! Here we are in Akron...we want the sporting world to know us...what Akron icon (other than LeBron) is seen at sporting events all over the country? The Blimp! Why not have our logo pasted on the side of the blimp? Stadiums full of sports fans, and millions more on TV, would see it. Than, when we win a few games, it will stick in peoples minds. Just a thought. The blimp is a good idea. Everyone knows it. They must at least have some ideas on the matter. Maybe (and I hope that this is not the case) they are leaving it up to us to promote(on my radio show i always sign off with"always and remember, fear the roo). I have no issues with that, but it's word of mouth.

that makes us second in the MAC East haha How is CMU ahead of us

I don't want people to say that it was their idea, it's a matter of civic prideI am not tring to make money(other than internet expenses, or expect to make a quick payday)Sometimes civic pride overrides the hassle, as long as it is part timemaking it an quicktime fad dosen't work, becaue it's too quick. Games dosen't work because people thinks that it is a "game" and not a mascot.what i mean is:most people who uses internet has yahoo messenger, myspace or facebook. Get your friends wondering. Follow the underdog. Buy something Zips related. Get radio/TV air time and talk about the Zips. People cannot follow if they don't know

After reading some of the post, I was wondering how to get national exposure. If Nebraska has their radio network, why not us? mabye if its small(i.e i have "fear the roo on my facebook page). It's worth a shot as being "Americas underdog", or as my roommate askes me one time: "what the hell is a zip"?

They still want to run the 3-3-5? why? why? why? It would make more sense to use an 4-3. They used it at times last year and hade mixed sucess with it. There is a reason teams at any level don't use the 3-3-5,.it is almost as bad as the 2-5-4

VTech came to akron and played, so I think they would come back. A Big Ten would probally do an 3 for 1. Which dosen't benifit anyone because they would make us write an "out clause" into the agreement after they get their games first. The The Big East started that, so I am not that interested in playng them. The ACC would be good. We beat NC State when they were ranked 25th at the time. Fro them it might be "play or dodge them" issue. Also I think that at one point we were going to play Hawaii, but it was too much money Big 12/ SEC/PAC 10: forget it! They would want all the games there(and the only reason that Ohio State got an home and home with USC because they had to beg)Time will tell if we can get these games.

Because it allows the MAC to get TV time. We aren't getting on TV on Saturday, that's just how it is. Friday, and mid-week games, allow us to get a game or two on ESPN network. That is a big plus for the school. I don't understand why so many people cry about a game behind on the weekday. You have to get up the next morning...ok?...You aren't going to be out there til 1 or 2 am. Im all for whatever gets the school, and this great new stadium, more exposure. Putting every game on Saturday would mean absolutely no national exposure. Which hurts the program.I understand getting the exposure being on friday night. However keep in mind that it is northesast ohio and you are in direct competition with high school football on friday nights

tried to watch the game online(the NCAA feed). Got fed up with the lag time and listened to the second half on Westwood One

There should be one!!! Unless the university thinks that it would be out of control being so close to May Day. Even though it would be cool to see burning couches in front of the JAR like they used to do on Katherine Place

Vs Gonzaga. Is it winnable?
-
Army and Navy? Other than they have built in fans everywhere due to people that served in the armed services, they bring nothing to the table. From that stand point, I rather have Air Force, but their too far away
-
The only way is if they play the play-in game in Dayton. That will be insulting

Their dancing now!The question is now what? The selection show is today (6pm). Seeding will be important, but location is critical. For some strange reason no respect will be given and will be placed in Portland, OR for round one .any thoughts?

There is no such thing as an "Akron Curse". Get that notion out of your head... We had this game up until the last 90 seconds or so... We lost because of our failure to execute in the end and a lucky shot by some scrub who hadn't really done a thing all damned game. I think the killer instinct idea is right on though. Akron needs that killer instinct and needs to believe they are going to win and just execute accordingly. Just play to your potential and keep the confidence level high in the tournament and beyond. Just as LeBron goes by the statement that the Cavs are a no excuses team, Akron is the same. We make our own destiny, and have earned every victory and every loss on our record. The outcome is what it is, although we really gave one away today. I really just think the failure to close out comes down to inexperience and some self doubt down the stretch. Just believe in what you do and give it everything you have and the wins will follow. Keep the Positive Mental Attitude in the Tourney Zips, because 'The Nation' is right here with you.well said, the last thing needed is another Championchip week promo from ESPN wit the Zips loosing

I don't know if it's a curse or not. Following Akron for 20 years, I always try stay positive about what happens as far as games are concerned. However, waiting until next year is too much of a broken record. Their the AKRON ZIPS, not the Brooklyn Dodgers!

I did not watch or listen to the game(I did follow it on yahoo sports however and being on the west coast did not help). It seems like, unless I am wrong, was a winnable game. and if thats the case, this loss(and this season) can be summed up by this linkhttp://www.bombombombomwooooo.com/

We did Temple a favor by adding them .They would have been a independent otherwise, however, the whole conferences SOS went down by just having them If the MAC launches WMU, CMU, EMU and Temple, now the MAC is a fourth-tier conference and would have to add schools and expand. They bring nothing to the table.Mabye we could merge with C-USA(minus a few teams) or disband the conference and merge with the Big Ten and make two 8 division league(I am willing to put money on the Big Ten want to get rid of some teams, but tradition won't let them)with C-USA:AkronCan'tBGMiamiOhioBall StateECUSMUTulsaSouthern MissMemphisRiceWith Big Ten:AkronCan'tBGMiamiOhioBall StateOhio StateMichiganPenn StateIowaIndianaMichigan Statejust putting idea out there and you can always add teams

The MAC will never have a team that competes for a national championship. The MAC is considered successful in neither football nor basketball. The league has brought in misfits in the past like Central Florida, Buffalo and Temple. Central leaving was a good thing. Replacing them with Temple was a bad thing. I would argue that even NIU is a misfit for the league at this point.Having a league that has the same teams at the top, the same teams in the middle and the same teams at the bottom evey year is terrible for a league. The Big Ten is as bad as it is right now because they have this structure year in and year out.I'm not certain the MAC doesn't have an identity. Identitiy means that something indentifys what you are. For example, a female kangaroo can be identified by a pouch. The identitiy of the mac is that it is a league full of a bunch of schools that underfund their athletics, reside in states that are obsessed with the BCS schools in those states, have little community/alumni support and are ignored by the NCAA (the list could go on, but I'm going to 5:30 mass). The league has been around since 1946. It is just what it is and 60+ years have not changed it. I could care less if it changes. I only want Akron to be the best team in a highly competitive conference. More teams with the same identitiy will not change the league. Fewer teams will create more rivals, more "dislike" for each other and more interest.Contraction crossed my mind when I was writing the orginal post, but that is not the way to go only because the NCAA will put the entire conference to a lower level(1-AA, or whatever it's called now). The NCAA can not do this. It is up to each conference which level it belongs to and the conference requires each member to be at that level. The Big East is not going to do anything different than what it is doing right now. That league is primarily a basketball league and secondly a football league. As long as Notre Dame stays in for basketball they will be happy. Adding Central Florida, etc. does not improve that league. You don't improve your league by bringing bad teams into the league.I'll give another example. I once worked for a company that manufactured building products and sold them to contractors as a system. We expanded our sales by contracting the number of contractors eligible to issue a warranty with our products. In that industry, we expanded perceived value in our product by elimating rum dums who were not good installers of the systems. It was very successful. More was not better. Adding contractors every year was sucking the value of the company down the drain in many, many ways. The MAC has not improved itself by adding bad teams and reducing the perceived value of the competition. Contraction is the real key. The new MAC president will not allow it because it will not look good on a resume and ADs will not vote for it because they worry about offending anyone that might be able to help them get another job at a bigger school. When those two motivations are the reason for "growing" the league, it is the wrong thing to do.I can't think of a single confernce that has been helped by becoming larger and having a conference championship at the end of the season. The SEC? The Big 12? These conferences would be great conferences without a championship game. The PAC10 has no championship game and it is just as good of a conference as the Big 12 and SEC. The quality of a league is not measured by one championship game at the end of the year. It is measured by the quality of the competition throughout the season. These three conferences have great competition all year long. Championship games don't matter. Larger conferences don't matter. The big 12 actually became better being larger(the Big 8 and the Southwest Conference Merging). However they do have some stiffs in their conference(i.e. Balyor). If you do it right, it can be better being larger

You almost have to add teams. I am not saing add teams for the sake of adding teams. If a meger happens between conferences, take the upper tier schools and tell the bottom feeder teams to get lost. I want Akron to be the best in a STRONG CONFERENCE, not one where the BCS schools think of Akron, or other schools in the MAC as easy wins.

Going back and reading my own and other members post on tring to fix the Mac. Is the best thing to do is to blow the whole thing up and start over? Meaning start taking teams and making one super conference? I understand that that are issues with this including, but not limited to:-Travel cost and time-Do you take some sports or all sports-SOS concerns-Charther members of other conferences wanting to leave, or wanting to have their rival game every year-How many teams and who-Getting post season selections(i.e. BCS games)-money sharing between schoolsanyone with ideas?
