Dave in Green, After watching the game online, I noticed one thing: people did not care (at least it looked like that when I watched the game online). Is it to a point that if it is not Cant State, no one gives a Smeg about what goes on with Akron sports!? There is no excuse for the piss-poor play(sugar coat it all you want, but that is what it is), however sitting here at my CPU in Phoenix, you must have home support if you are there.

For me, whats keeps me coming back is very simple. I grew up there, my brother goes to school there. It was my thing to do. Even when I was a kid back in the 80's, I followed the Zips from, as my oldest brother put it, "Jar Wars!" with Huggins, to seeing players down at the pit on Carroll for a pickup game(I must be getting old). Also seeing the football team going from DII to D1. Even durning the 90's, I always supported the Zips. I want them to do well at everything!

Their "out" is to transfer to a lower division and play immediately. Or transfer to another D-1 school and sit for a year. And that year costs a season of eligibility if that player had redshirted. It is a bum deal for the student athletes. Coaches can come and go as they please, but the player's options are comparatively unfair. If players had the same freedom as the coaches, however, I think it would be anarchy. The "diamonds in the rough" that a MAC school might uncover, would be likely to be "recruited" to BCS programs after said BCS program saw what they could do on the field. My take - the players are stuck. It's an unfair, but necessary evil. Worst case (i.e. being a 2010 Zips football player), you still gets a free education, and get to play football for 4 years, which is really cool when you're 18 - 23 years old. You get a personal trainer... great practice facilities...food....housing...it isn't like their rowing in the bowels of a boat... Ok...maybe it is just a little... I think also their "out" would be if the school closed, dropped their program or the death sentence happened. And yes Captian, there would be total anarchy if BCS schools saw real talent in the MAC that they could get.

The one thing you don't have is time anymore waiting for an new stadium. Bad decisions are bad decisions. Will coach I pan out? I might be better off asking the 8Ball vs. a Crystal Ball right now. All I ask is to be at least look like a football program moving in the right direction. Mr Proenza, what is more inportant: Having a money generating program in football that everyone wants to watch, or have Fotbol as you bread an butter that wins with all the suport in the world. If that is ture, it tells me one of three things: 1. The Big East DON'T want Temple back 2. They are completely stupid by taking an "directional" school 3. They have no desire to go after an team from another conference and would be easier to go with an FCS school.

You have a Big East team come to your stadium and the and according to ohio.com "the announced crowd of 15,969." Most teams will have fans show up with 20-25k for the game (including ticket giveaways). Everybody says that winning will change this. I honestly think that thare is something more deep than that. I Rember when the Zips Played Marshall at the Bowl years ago for an ESPN game. Was it packed? Yes it was, but at the end of the game, there was doesens and dosens there looking for some t.v. time. There are issues here and it starts at the very top of the food chain. I here in Phoenix and looking at the pictures it seems like there is something very wrong. Am I off base, or dead on?

1) The MAC would not help the Zips in any way, Even if they added schools 2) Being the best in the conference dose not matter in the MAC. Bosie State found that out the hard way. 3) The Mouatin West is BCS close? What did I miss? 4) The only reason that the Big East is still BCS is because of mbb. 5) The ideal option is to join the BE. Having a super conference of Directional schools and a few big schools does not work in the long term. For BB it would be great, but for football there would be no chance. Mabye coach I has a plan, but we would not know for for a few years.

How does this Examiner blog work anyway, with regard to the city cited? Every time I've ever seen it, it has "Examiner Birmingham" displayed to me -- whether I'm at work or at home (I did just open the Examiner Akron, and that's what it read). I usually use it to find info on the Seattle Sounders, in fact the best Sounders blog -- put together by their PR Dept Director is on Examiner (Birmingham, that is). Welcome to Bama?
