Dr. Luis Proenza wants your input

did anyone go? -
Hmm marching band area...someone should start a thread about that...oh wait You will then pass through a sliding glass door to the state-of-the-art roller coaster. While racing along 1200 feet of twisted metal you will be taken through the stadium while robots rub your feet and feed you popcorn...all while having a great view of the game!!!

I know he'll be here next week...can't say for sure this weekend tho. Anyone know? Sadly I fear the worst. It is my understanding that Payne is not coming this weekend because he is going to be playing in the PITT Jamfest here in Pgh. I do believe that he is still interested in Akron...but like I told someone else, you have to allow for the "human" side of him to feel a little disappointed and hurt by Boals leaving. Does it mean that he won't consider Akron...personally, I don't think so. Remember, his coaches LOVE Akron and they know that he will be able to "connect" with LBJ here at Akron. Now, does THAT make a difference I THINK SO!! Just my opinion ZipNation...but I believe everything is going to work out for the good of Zip basketball. BESIDES....Zeke will be on the campus during the LBJ AAU Tourney....where..as most of you know, Payne will be playing. Don't be surprised if you see a 7 Footer come walking into an All-Ohio Red game to give support to Mr. Payne...I'm just sayin ya!!! Ya hear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Nice to hear you both have your heads on straight! I'm so excited to have Zeke in a Zips uniform. Though if Payne did pull his visit I am quite disappointed, I know we are growing to a greater level. Now is a chance to bring in new talent (coaching and playing).Lets Go Zips!

Well considering Boals was the driving force for getting Payne to schedule an Akron visit...I'd realistically say it makes our chances less than slim. Payne has interest in playing at the next level (college and NBA). OSU gives him the best opportunity of that. If I remember right, he didn't like the campus and OSU had very limited scholarships available. I'm still thinking Dayton is a lock, but perhaps OSU just pushed us off the board?Time will tell

Well as a few others, when I read this last night I was too disgusted to say much. In the end, we all know it will work out fine. We have a quality program with a great young kid coming in. Things can only improve! This will test us to see if we are ready to take that next step forward. I don't think KD will have any problem finding a top-notch replacement. The only thing that really concerns me is our setback with recruits in '10. I will remain hopeful... but I know it doesn't help our chances. Perhaps after our MAC champs and Zeke blow away the competition next year we can pull some top-100 players simply on that fact. PS. I'm glad the players had a strong relationship with coach Boals, but it does worry me a little...

sighI hope not...

can always improve thats all I'm trying to say

Eh no offense but none of the people in my room know anything about an AK Rowdy office. Just trying to help you improve; take it to the next level ya know? It's easy for you to say you know about these things when you're in the organization. Actually yes I do remember hearing of the rowdies at student orientation, was two years ago my bad. I had other things on my mind at the time, as I'm sure others did. Taking a "you had your chance" attitude will get you half full tiny bleachers
-
I can say that I personally don't hear that much about joining the Rowdies. This includes how to join or why to join. I don't know everything that goes down, and I'm sure every idea has its consequences, but some fans might only sign up if you can do it at the games.maybe set up a table and get groups of students to join at a time?
-
Yes, I made this with just that in mind. I think it's fine that the lower seats are devoted to Rowdies only, but it should be easier for students to become a part of a student group. I obviously don't want Can't fans down there. I dunno there must be a better way...

He's what I'm readingXavier NewswireHas to be tempting, but I'm hoping he has some unfinished buisness to take care of.If he would leave I have no doubt KD and staff can bring in someone of equal or greater quality.

Zeke - Fab 5 Material

All Star RosterHaha I think they put the wrong UA -
I'm not sure much has changed. via rivals April 12, 2009

Hmm..I think he has his list narrowed down much beyond those. I thought Akron was on a list of five or so, but I'd say our chances remain the same. We'll know in a few weeks. It'll be a big weeked here either way.

Hopefully this takes some of the off-topic posts off the stadium cam thread. Rowdies, I have a confession to make, and while I am reluctant to post this I feel it is interesting and hopefully beneficial for everyone. I have been a pretty serious Akron sports fan for both years at the University of Akron, however I am not an AK Rowdy. Perhaps if we look at different perspectives we can work to improve something that is a vital part of Akron sports. So I'll start by giving a little background. I went to a pretty large high school, one that had a substantial athletics program in terms of both achievement and rivalry. I chose the University of Akron (over OSwho) for a variety of reasons, sports aside. Naturally competitive, it took me no time at all to call myself a Zip. I saw the potential and knew things were only gonna get better. It was pretty easy for me to sit with my friends (who also aren't Rowdies) and immerse myself in the game. Come basketball season I was hooked on Zips sports, but still never felt the urge to join. I was never approached or told of ways to become a member. My friends and I attended every home game regularly. One constant at many of the games was our criticism of the small, "goofy" student section. It was all in good fun, don't get me wrong. Perhaps it was the half hearted ZI-PS chants or the tiny bleachers that were not even full. Something just seemed lackluster about it all. I was unimpressed. Of course there were some creative ideas that I liked, but we only play Can't so many times. Nothing got me more fired up than the entire JAR on it's feet, cheering Let's Go Zips at that classic OU comeback win. I don't care what cheers are done, just as long is it gets everyone pumped up! I doubt there is anyway to insult a team more than to take their cheer and turn it around on them 10 fold. Anyway, I don't think I need to rant to much. I think the Rowdies are getting better every time I see them, especially at soccer games. I realize you can be quick to dismiss my comments as the view of just one person, but who knows how many hundreds of others feel the same way. So I'm just throwing out some ideas that I have had:1) The Rowdy section needs to be bigger: No I do not necessarily mean the stands need to be bigger, but more students need to sit there! There are lots of ways to get them into the seats. Get people coming out in groups, make it fun, and be accepting. Maybe adjusting the seating at basketball games is the answer, I dunno. ***2) Be creative:Keep in mind I'm just an observer, but I think the more signs, props, unique chants the better. I have no problem with getting into the heads of the other team. As was said in another post, this is college; it needs to be taken to the next level. 3) Be intimidating: So this kinda overlaps with being creative, but chants should get in the other team's head. I have heard too many times when the rowdies aren't together or sound uninspired. Make the most of the home court advantage. 4) Gain Respect: People want to be a part of something with pride and class. I think we have a lot of it here and it's important to be viewed in a positive way. Get out and tell people why they should be an AK-Rowdy!!!***So in closing I realize my mistake. If I view the Rowdies as too small why am I not contributing? I'll stop sitting and observing and start helping, even bringing some friends with me. I think that a ton of progress has been made, but I wanna be a part of taking it to the next level. I'll be joining asap

I have never seen anything that would lead me to believe he is leaving...I have never seen anything that would lead me to believe he would not leave...If he's close to home though that's a huge plus, and he has to see that UA has a lot on the horizon.

Yea in proportion our rivalry was much greater. (is much greater ) I'd better start a new topic...The stadium is getting some spring cleaning from the rain today.

It would be funny seeing a kangaroo chilling on the sideline like thisLol this needs to be made into a statue at the stadium
-
exactly my point. Who knows though if we get another big recruit to shake things up
-
well to be fair some of the cheers are kind of lame. I mean the "you can't do that" cheer is used all over the country, by every school and it just comes across as lazy. They need to think of some new and unique cheers to start. I joined the rowdies my freshman year, and I was really disappointed. I went to a high school where we had hundreds of students in our cheering section, our cheering section would fill up 3 sections at the rubber bowl. I know sometimes when I was with the rowdies there would be 2 different cheers going on, i mean come on, thats just sad! You want people to get involved and make the rowdies great, that needs to start at the top. Make a better cheering section, and people will cheer! If we're in there and 5 different cheers are going on, ya we can't go along with all of them. I'm hoping that it gets better at the Info, but who knows....ps idk who does all the canada stuff when buffalo comes to town, but buffalo is not in canada and that really doesn't make any sense?? they're not canadians...the Z-I-P-S is a direct rip off of O-H-I-O, and I hate OSHWHO so that needs to stop tooi'm sorry but it wasn't a complete attack of the rowdies, but you need to know why people don't want to get involved...stealing cheers and lame antics are not going to get people excited....I have a feeling I was the cheering section across from you VMD

Lol these two videos were all I could think about... I'm not sure how well you can train a kangaroo, but I know they are usually pretty mild mannered. In the zoo they let people walk around and pet them, which was pretty cool. I'd love to see three kangaroos sprint across the field chasing after Zippy.
