  1. I'm all for expanding the campus footprint but only in areas where it is feasable to make the expansion LOOK LIKE part of the campus, such as the new stadium. There is plenty of expansion possibilities across Jackson Field south of exchange where the university now owns parts of the area and plans on owning more of it. Expanding into the downtown area can not transform downtown into a campus. There is too much traffic (the nature of all downtowns) and cannot be made to look or be pedestrain friendlyTrue, a downtown arena probably would not expand campus as much. Perhaps it would save us enough money so that we could expand it in other ways? Maybe ten years from now the school would have the option of building its own arena and the city could keep the old one for minor league teams/concerts. Sounds like overkill.Lets just fill the JAR first.......
  2. While I would love it, I don't see how or where an on campus (within the fence) basketball arena would work for quite some time. Expanding the possible sites by a few minutes walking distance would allow for a quicker, more affordable option in addition to the community benefits.
  3. I'm sorry, but are you serious? So Coach Dambrot supports UA moving backwards? People who donate thousands of dollars do as well? That would be like saying one who is not in support of war wants the enemy to win. Perhaps, but do you think they distance themselves from the community as well? That would hardly show class in my opinion. I feel that the two really go hand in hand. Think of all the benefits a prosperous community has for students: Comfort, safety, job incentives, entertainment, a place to showcase their talents, etc...With all the bad-mouthing I hear from the immediate community, shouldn't the University want to reach out and show was it stands for? Really... a successful school wouldn't do that? That said I see some of you points on wanting to bring the community to campus. Why not engage in some friendly discussion instead of calling people liars?exactly, walls are not boundaries. UA should work beyond the "walls" of campus and touch lives around the community. Sorry but I call a spade a spade and you are being dishonest by twisting words. UA does not have walls. It has boundaries. Having said that, UA reaches out to the community all the time and UA is not distancing itself from the community by having integrity and its own campus You are making crap up and that makes you dishonest. It makes me dishonest to disagree with you? Wouldn't it look bad to turn away a chance to work with the city, saving some money/time just so we can "have integrity and" our "own campus". I am definitely not putting words in your mouth I'm stating how I feel. Why is that so hard for you to understand???Yes, I realize UA reaches out to the community all the time and I think it should continue to do so. Why can't both things happen? Not every college needs a stadium within the walls or boundaries or whatever fence you are referring to.
  4. I worry, but I don't think we're really lagging behind. Mostly I just have big dreams of top recruits parading through campus.

  6. Now that's marketing
  7. Something like this would look pretty cool I think, though I like the permanent brickwork more. What do you guys think?
  8. I don't think it's much of a change from last year, which to me is a let down. I think with the addition of a Gonzaga I'd be much happier, but we should have a good chance at winning all of these games. It really doesn't jump out at me but the more games at the JAR the better. How many of these games could be on tv?
  9. A giant banner would work (from an aesthetic point of view) and would probably be a cheap, easy solution. Also, with a few smaller matching banners around the stadium it could look great.
  10. So, what does everyone think of putting A K R O N on the brick down the South (Right) side of the glass tower? There are 7 kinda blank looking brick sections there and if done correctly, I think it would look good.I noticed that too and thought it looked like it was missing something..I'm assuming this is what you meant? The spacing would be a little funny, but I think it looks better than the asymmetry I'm seeing now with the windows opposite the brick.
  11. would be a great pick up
  12. I'm hoping he's learned from his mistakes. If we had someone who was much better maybe it'd be worth the risk, but we don't. Until then why not let someone who has experienced a college game man the ship. Decision making should improve with time (I would think) unless he is really helpless. Experience comes with wins and losses, ask any successful athlete. Yes I am being optimistic, but I think there is a decent chance Jacq can be a solid performer this year. I'm sure the coaches know what they're doing.
  13. After living in Quaker for a year, I agree 100%! Distance really wasn't that big of a deal, but the walk could be much nicer! Maybe then people would see any reasonably close location for a stadium is a good thing!
  14. It should really be a blanket issue, all or nothing...We all should have to drink 3 beers to be admitted to the game. Only then are we all equals!!...but really I can see why they don't want to have alcohol sold at a college stadium.
  15. Nice rundown! It's good to see different perspectives and informed opinions. I have hope for Jacq this year and think his experience is needed during such a pivotal season. I'm sure that nerves will play a factor in some of the younger guys who understand they are part of a historic Zips team with a bar set to new heights. The leadership of Jacq and other experienced players could be the difference maker and in my opinion give us an edge. With continued improvement and consistent play, our QB spot should be in a good position.
  16. I like your thinking Zippyfan34! I'm gonna be doing the same thing as well, and bringing in anyone who could possibly be considered family. Hopefully others are thinking the same thing. If 5,000 students bring 4 family members/friends...well I'm no math major but I think that equals Can't Sucks.I've just been informed that it also equals 25,000...but no beer for grandma.
  17. Is there are a reason why you think we need new threads? Out dated design or something? What we have now is far from outdated. I personally think we should have a throwback (ala the snowbowl) and an alternate gold jersey with blue pants. But overall those are just "awesome we have extra" not "we really need this".Personally, I am not looking for anything drastic. But I think this is an opportunity to make some adjustments. Kind of a big deal to move into a new stadium, new era kind of thing. I think something to reflect that change would be a positive move. Who wants to move into a new house and keep all of the same furniture?Well, we have new seats and big screens... If I was moving into a new house I'm not sure I'd buy a new shirt, and I most definitely wouldn't throw out all my outfits.Prolly go for the tv in the bathroom.
  18. Was searching Zips sports on google.
  19. I don't mind the commercials that are running currently, but I think there also needs to be something portraying the beauty and expansion of campus. It almost looks like we're covering things up by having Proenza in space. I still like it though...give him a lightsaber
  20. It would be really sweet, but I think our jerseys now are great. I'd like to see gold worked in more but I'm afraid I'd get sick of it as a home jersey. Even though it would make a nice throwback I think but I'd put my money elsewhere...Golden Zippy StatueDr. Pepper FountainT-shirt rocket launcher...you know stuff we really need.
  21. Love seeing the logo on the field!
  22. I think it's because it's OU's homecoming. Plus they kicked the crap out of us last year until another one our miracle comebacks was shut down. They're playing OU's homecoming game in Akron?Lol the stadium can sure attract...
