  1. Here’s another thought. The Akron Rubberducks lead the league in attendance. Yes it’s minor league, but it’s baseball in Akron. They drew 3,900 fans per game to downtown Akron. That might not sound like much but they play 5 or 6 times a week. 70 home games a season X 8 minor league teams in Ohio. What do they do better? How do they engage the fans? Akron. Has. No. Clue. They can’t sell football in northeast Ohio. Some high schools draw more football fans. I went to Akron, and still lost interest in the Zips. In the right hands, it could be exciting again.
  2. I disagree. The best rivalries are local rivalries where fans (in most cases) travel to the away games (if you consider 14 miles is “traveling”). A rivalry in Muncie or DeKalb isn’t going to move the needle. Toledo or Dayton is pushing it. It has to start at the top, and I get the feeling the top people of these schools do t give a rats as about athletics. Ohio State has been stealing their lunch for decades, and they’re just hoping to move on to something more prestigious. Or a nice pre-retirement money grab.
  3. Why go to a weeknight game and then drive home and then get up for work the next morning? If you stay home and Akron is way behind you can flip the channel or go to bed.
  4. KEWL!!! I’m tired of using different LA Rams uni’s and adjusting player settings. And playing against NFL teams. It takes a LOT of imagination!!!
  5. 😐 Again?
  6. Chris pitched seven solid innings tonight giving up 2 runs on 5 hits in Fenway Park against the BoSox. He handed the bullpen a 6-2 lead, we will see if they can keep it.
  7. Chris is pitching against the Tribe today at 3:00, game is on Ballys Sports Great Lakes. Nope, he was held out for some reason. Jose Berrios is penciled ion for tomorrow.
  8. Mark your calendars for August 25, 2024, the Cleveland Guardians are planning the second annual “UA Day at the Cleveland Guardians”. Full details at https://lwcal.uakron.edu/event/22864-ua-day-at-the-cleveland-guardians

  9. Chris pitched 7 shutout innings spacing out 5 hits to (hopefully) take the win. His record should be 4-6 after tonight.
  10. If you’re looking for something to watch (since the Zips didn’t make the MAC tourney), Chris Bassett has shut out the White Sox for four innings so far. Toronto batters handed him a comfortable 9 run lead.
  11. Game two was closer, Kent 6 Akron 5.
  12. Well the good guys built a nice 8-2 lead going into the 8th before the bullpen puked up 8 runs. Well, there’s always game two.
  13. Chris left the mound with. 3 run lead giving up 1 run in 6.3 innings. That should be good for a W, but I’m headed outside for awhile.
  14. I saw that. I have not seen anything about an injury. He was on Chris Rose Rotation talking about pitcher health… https://youtu.be/zGsin-uz8OQ?si=9-Gz1qhKsyPlpaLl
  15. Chris will be on MLB Network tomorrow at 1pm vs. Philadelphia (Nola)
  16. The good guys win again in Central Michigan, they’re 8-3 in the last eleven games. This team is putting it together. I would not be disappointed if they continued this run and earned a trip up here on the 22nd. It would be a nIce to have the underclass experience that. (not criticizing the seniors by any means). They’ve all definitely put the work in and deserve more games.
  17. Zips in the Pros after one month Chris Bassett has a 2-5 record with a 5.45 ERA, 34 K’s, and a 1.68 ERA. I haven’t been able to catch him on the tube yet this season. JT Brubaker’s career is still on hold, although he was traded by the Pirates to the Yankees. He recently started throwing off a mound and the team is looking at him being active after the All Star break. The Yanks are a half game out of first. Looks like there’s a good chance he’ll be playing late into the fall [fingers crossed].
  18. oops wrong thread
  19. If you like water, there are a lot of places to enjoy it here. The mile long pier in downtown Lorain is a really nice walk (even though it’s only a half mile one way). Put “Oasis Marinas” in your gps. Downtown Lorain is making a comeback. There are several parks and beaches along the shore in Sheffield Lake and Avon Lake. You’ll never run out of places to eat and shop. It’s been fun living here. If only the Zips were coming to the tourney…
  20. Me too. But we have to remember the tv commercials that come along with the highly lucrative (🤪) tv contracts. If a QB takes a second too long calling cadence it’s a penalty. If the network hack wants to go to commercial…
  21. We just need to hire a coach who is interested in building a team here. Heck one who actually shows up for work is nice. Not just get a paycheck until something better comes along. Building a program, not padding a resume. Maybe we're there. I'm not expecting miracles. Winning record in the MAC and be competitive against one or power conference foes. See also football.
  22. "DoOrDoNot" Nothing like using a movie quote for motivation for players born 16 years after the movie came out. "Who's Yoda?"
  23. With any change of regime you have players who were the faves by the old (losing) staff, and athletes can jump ship almost at will. It’s worse than free agency with some of these kids.
  24. I should be excited about this, I guess….
