...and a lot of people STILL can't understand why people in this area will drive 130 miles to see a school they never attended but have a loose connection with it's name. IT IS AN EXPERIENCE. It's a party atmosphere. There's 100,000 fans in the stadium. It's easy to get caught up because THEY USUALLY WIN. We haven't seen .500 football in HOW MANY YEARS? The picture I posted at the Spring Game is what an Akron atmosphere feels like. There was nobody else in sight (I shot from the upper deck, but still). If the Worthless Nuts had a farting contest, 20,000 people would pay to watch, and it would draw decent ratings on TV. In Akron you can fart in the stadium and nobody else would be close enough to hear. (I usually don't talk like an 8 year old but this is where we are at). Between being the football laughing stock and the mismanagement of the baseball program, it's hard to get behind the rest.

I brought this up a few years back. OK a LOT of years back. Anyway I played football for Chippewa (Doylestown, Ohio) and we didn’t know what division we played in. It’s Division VI btw. Nobody cared that we never played Canton McKinley or Massillon. Our coaches didn’t, our fans didn’t, our families didn’t. It was good competitive football. Same with Akron Zips, football was a lot more fun before we went FBS. IDK if the U thought football would bring in more money. Or if they thought a competitive FCS team could win games and conferences and bowl games. Or maybe they were looking at the TV money and thought “We can get that too.” Whatever it was, they just about destroyed the sport. It has to be a PR hit for the whole university. Jump in and tell me if I’m wrong, but I believe it’s a lot more fun being Mount Union in a division they belong than it is for us in FBS.

The athletic department can’t put together a functional web site. What makes you think they can run a D1 football program?

There’s gotta be a curse on the region. It is almost impossible to suck this bad for decades. The birth of (pro) football. We draw more fans for high school games than most colleges. And we’re stuck with this crap.

This is FRICKEN EMBARRASSING. We give up 13 points in three games against a non-FBS opponent (putting 148 on them). Then can’t beat them at home. I have no words. Just when you think this program is making a big step forward we get kicked in the nuts. What an embarrassment.

Tough game against the Guards tonight in CLE. Chris gave up 4 runs in 6 innings to take the loss. Yes the Tribe scored more than that many runs tonight. Of all nights. They’re actually playing toward a .500 record (which might get them into the playoffs. His next start (last regular season start) is set for August 30 at home vs. Washington to close out the regular season. The Jays fall to 70-59 in the AL East. Good for third place 10 1/2 behind Baltimore.

Will non-conference games still be on ESPN streaming?

Awesome news. I live 4 miles from Crushers Stadium now. This just makes it feel like a legit sport again. Now I just hope we’re done hiring clowns to run the program and it can be a legit program again.
