  1. Seriously??? Do you really think Maccabi Tel Aviv belongs on the same court as the San Antonio Spurs??? Or Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles should play in the World Series??? And the Super Bowl should have included the Saskatchewan Rough Riders??? I've seen a LOT of hyperbole in this thread but this is downright hilarious.
  2. Wait, is this a replay of 2011?
  3. Well we didn't get skunked...
  4. I don't see how that first quearter could have gone any worse. We let Marshall run up 200 fricken yards in one quarter. Penn State would eat Marshall for lunch.
  5. Apparently Can't State is out.
  6. From the article I read they will be using dorms. Shit storm about the browns wearing out the carpet in the dorms commencing in 3... 2... 1...
  7. Wonder if the suckers I MEAN Rubber Bowl owners are looking at this? http://www.sidearmer.com/new-football-league-coming-soon-no-kickers-allowed/
  8. I just don't understand how it is possible to have a pristine playing surface yet be clueless and unable to maintain that. When you see Cleveland Browns Stadium before a game, it's like a golf course. Agree on the arena 1000% BTW.
  9. If you're going to keep pounding Ianello down our throats as some reason the Browns shouldn't practice here, show us your messages right after he was hired that you knew he would be a failure and how stupid you thought Wistercill was back then. Maybe you'll get your way and Cowlumbus or Can't will get the camp and you can rest comfortably looking at empty facilities that the University is spending $$$ maintaining. Think small, be small.
  10. When I was in highschool looking at colleges UA was dead last on my list as well. The first time I ever saw the campus by going to my sister's graduation which just so happened to be on the campus of The University of Akron. I remember how impressed I was, thinking "this isn't as bad as I heard it was". Never looked back. I personally was accepted into three different schools. We all know which one I picked. Don't hold your breath waiting on them to answer you. I've brought that up three times now and they skate right around it.
  11. I thought it was great having the LeBron welcome party and the Browns Family Night on campus. I think it would be awesome having thousands of people who would not otherwise see what UA really is, walking on campus every day for two weeks. I want to see enrollment start trending upward again. I want to see the U break the community college stigma it has in NEOhio. I look for ways of getting asses on campus, that's why I believe in an on-campus arena that hosts many other events, getting asses on campus and creating revenue on an otherwise money pit for the U. (Just like the Browns training camp could). I'm proud of where I graduated. I'm proud of the National Championship too, but I am not convinced having training camp here would ruin the program forever. BTW there are threads about this week's football and soccer games. But most people are like minded in those threads. It's where there's a difference of opinion that a thread often takes off.
  12. Has anyone calculated the price of the publicity and "eyes on campus" that such an event (check that, 14 events) would provide? Each one in Berea had >8000 eyes. A camp with more capacity and centrally located in the market could draw a lot more daily. Or are we still ignoring the concept?
  13. Making fun of screen names now. How mature. Insults and skewered stats (insulting other sports that draw far more TOTAL fans) I've had enough. I try not to take troll bait anymore. Go on ahead with your bad self. Maybe you'll get what you want and Can't will get all the publicity and fannies on campus. And you won't have to lose sleep hoping the grounds crew can fix a few divots from those lizards. Have fun with that,
  14. I hope so, that would be a great fit!!!
  15. How many more attend training camp?
  16. Multiple threads demeaning and insulting a favorite sport and a favorite team of other posters does not do anything for your cause. Unless your cause is to piss people off and divide the alumni.
  17. If it makes economic sense and it puts "eyes on campus" then it very much serves the University and its programs. A Browns fan from another county comes to see the training camp, and decides to stop in one day to see a football game, soccer game, basketball game. Or he brings his high school age kids and they decide they want to know more about Akron. That it isn't CSU or Tri-C or LCCC or _______ College. Maybe he (like me) is returning to school at 30+ 40+ 50+ and likes what he sees. Maybe someone notices the banners in the soccer stadium and comes to a game, the Student Union, the Rec facilities, the dorms, the green spaces. The ballpark. OK not the ballpark. The campus has a lot to offer and the more eyes it gets from outside, the more the whole university loses its stigma.
  18. I never said anything of the sort. In fact I did ask if anyone thought the grounds crew was so inept they couldn't have the field ready for soccer season. I guess that was your "answer". So yes you are putting words in my mouth. Only the figure that somehow proves your stance. Why not use actual attendance numbers? Why not use any other stats? Why do you feel the need to get so defensive about soccer that you need to put down another UA program to make soccer "look good" when nobody is putting soccer down?
  19. I still think the MAC is looking better than it's big bro (B1G) right now...
  20. The Browns already said they were looking at facilities and negotiating costs. Were national team members concerned about playing at Cleveland Browns Stadium? Showing only stats that support your cause doesn't work with me. Again, the Browns aren't looking for a handout and the U isn't going to hand over the keys unless it makes sense. Not to mention, eyes on campus. Now you're putting words in my mouth. Are you interested in having a real conversation here or just want to pound fists and yell? I have no time or interest in the latter.
  21. There's no comparison to the groups of people who would come to a pro team camp to who the Zips (might) have come to games if the teams were relevant. You want a broader base of people to see the campus. Well, anyone concerned with things like enrollment and future growth. It would help break the community college stigma that parents have that Akron is like CSU or Tri-C. or parents/students who think tOSU is the only choice in Ohio. A winning Zips fotball program would do that, but not necessarily the same people, and not to the same scale.
  22. What are the costs involved compared to the money it would bring in? What would the publicity of "eyes on the campus" be worth if you could buy it? Is Coach Embrick even capable of recruiting the kind of high school player who would be concerned about divots? What is the attendance at the soccer pitch since the team isn't what it use to be? What do First Energy and Cub Cadet think about this? And most of all, is the grounds crew so incapable that they can't have the stadium ready for soccer season? When the soccer games were played at Cleveland Browns Stadium, was it a World War II minefield??? I see a lot of panties bunched up and no facts to back anything up. I'm looking out for the whole university (as usual) not just the narcissistic wants of a few.
  23. Nice to see Cleveland State kept up their end and scheduled a game in Akron I guess we hurt their feelings last year.
  24. I've been having all kinds of trouble getting this board to load, and submitting a message is near impossible. I tried three different browsers. Is it just on my end?
  25. So while the rich get richer, how do the rest survive? Less scholies? Less OOC travel?
