  1. My first question is, you do realize Tri-C has SIX campuses, right? Second question is, if the regional campus system doesn't work, why do all of the major universities use it? Where do you think those students go to finish their degrees? Main Campus. And I hope nobody was offended by what I said about the Kenmore/Barberton area. I practically grew up there. But it's just not what it use to be, like most other rust belt cities in the post-industrial era. And, to tie together what I said about that region and about regional campuses, coming home from the game today I came through Barberton, and lo and behold, there is a Stark State Barberton Campus now.
  2. We discussed before a big reason the attendance (especially season ticket sales) is low is because of the JAR. It's uncomfortable, lacks the most basic amenities, lacks any character (unless you dig high school gymnasiums) and is about as D1 as our "ballpark". We've also talked about how a modern, comfortable venue skyrockets attendance and revitalizes the area it is located in. Reference Canal Park and Gateway. And Columbus' Arena District. An on-campus arena also adds to the campus itself, and brings potential benefactors onto campus to see what "Akron U" has become and what it could achieve. Built adjacent to the Info and First Energy, it could revitalise the old Zip Strip. Which improves campus life, and the cycle continues. There are several better reasons to build a new arena than outgrowing the JAR.
  3. Unfuckinexcuseable. I'm so pissed right now, they had better get their crap straightened out or I'm not renewing my season tickets next year. The biggest problem I saw was the players didn't want to be there. Ohio came to play, The Zips showed up because we had to. I don't know if it was the weather, but they had no motivation. The players looked like they didn't want to be there, and before long the fans did too. And they had HAD a nice crowd. Halftime looked like the exodus. I doubt a lot of them will come back. I love 16, but he was completely ineffective out there. I thought I was watchign Brandon Weeden. He couldn't move and was a sitting duck. Most of his passes sailed over the receiver's heads or five yards in front of them. Was he overleading them, were they slow because of the turf, or did they just not give a crap? Whether it was his lingering injury or what, he was INEFFECTIVE. Why was he still in there? Because of that, the play calling was atrocious. All we could do in the second half was run, apparently right up the middle. And it didn't take Ohio long to fill the box, either. Why wasn't Hirsh brought in? Was it just because when the receivers did have the ball hit them in the hands, it bounced off? Special teams were a total loss. I've seen JV teams play better special teams. Staring down five green jerseys and still trying to get a return. Fumbling the ball. Hitting the return man on a fair catch. WTF? Excuse my French but I haven't been this pissed off in a long long time. I stuck with this team through the Brookhart ship wreck and the I-a-don'tknow era (because we knew they had no talent and the coach was an idiot). But this is the same team that had Michigan by the short ones, and Louisiana. Which makes what we witnessed today even more unacceptable. If this is how its going to be, I'm not renewing my season tickets next year. I'll go back and see what everyone else has now.
  4. They made FOUR STRAIGHT mistakes on special teams resulting in a safety, field position lost, and a 15 yd penalty on a punt. The only thing worse than the penalty was the dumb ass ref announcing it was PASS INTERFERENCE. Bobby finally yelled at the return men after he had seen enough. Where was the ST coach? Goofy could have done a better job coaching those units. Those botched returns and return coverage was a big (but not only) reason we sucked today.
  5. Yeah, I bet all those people who want to keep tanking until we're the 1988 49'ers are having fits right now.
  6. I think 8000 would be a better number to shoot for. Here's my thinking. You know a new venue always brings in a lot of people the first year. The Zips winning would keep them coming back. Might even bring in some schools that are famous for football, whose basketball program would come here and we could compete (win) with. Alabama, LaTech, or some regional rivals like Wright, Cincy, Xavier, Pitt. Duq. Teams that would bring fans. Detroit and Marshall are nice home games this year in that regard. That capacity also increases the number of other events you can bring in.
  7. I love to debate, and often change my mind on things. But when you bring out example after example of having other tennants and all you hear from a group of posters is "It won't work. Why? Because I don't like minor league sports. That's why.", that's not a debate or a discussion. That's talking to the wall. Define that however you want.
  8. You want to move Summit College? What you want is CC's where the money is. Thus Wayne College, MCUC, Lakewood. And don't forget why Rolling Acres failed. That area might work for a Herzing College or a Fortis College. Brown Mackie. We have no reason to go there.
  9. I got hammered when I said other teams and shows would come to a new arena.
  10. The Convo was too big, I don't know what they were thinking. Even with the Coliseum, they weren't bringing in major shows to downtown. They were still going to the Coliseum. Other than Cleveland Crunch playoff games and the NCAA Regional, how many times have they used that capacity? The only reason the Crunch was there was because the Cavs and Lumberjacks took all the weekend dates at the Coliseum. The perfect example of overbuilding. An arena half that size would cost a lot less to maintain, and bring in less popularity events at break even. And create a better atmosphere for Vikings games.
  11. After watching Michigan play UConn last night, I doubt that Michigan is really a top 25 team My read on the Michigan game is it was a combination of Michigan not as good as everyone thought they were, and Akron being a lot better than we thought they were. I don't want to diminish what our men did going into that stadium and taking on a top 15 team. To play even a top 40 or 50 team that strong is a remarkable improvement over the teams we had before. As heartbraking as these losses have been, they have exceeded my expectations.
  12. Louisiana won a bowl game last year. I don't know why anybody who claims to know college football would look down on them or be embarrassed by losing to them. They came in ranked higher than Ball State and Ohio. And K.e.n.t. That said, Akron was very much in this game but lost it themselves. The first quarter was an abortion. NO EXCUSE. Pohl overthrew way too many passes, The play calling was horrid, when a play didn't work, we went right back to it again. The defense acted like they had never seen a QB tuck and run before. But, we were still in the game until the end. Against a team the same quality as Ball State and Ohio. It doesn't get any easier. The next three games are also against teams that went to bowl games last year. And we can be in them too, IF we remember the game starts at the beginning of the FIRST quarter, not the second quarter. If KP can throw passes to receivers, not over them. And IF the playcalling on offense improves. If they can get one or two of those areas straight, I see us beating Miami, K.e.n.t, and UMass. Four wins. We haven't done that since 2007. If they can get it all together, we might sniff .500. That is a very very big IF.
  13. What was it for then?
  14. Oh, it can get worse. He got benched for Brian Hoyer.
  15. This might move the needle a little in the Akron area. If the Buckeyes went through a long period like the Browns have would move the needle if the Zips were winning. Side note: I agree with Tony. And the rant on Munch was priceless.
  16. A 3D rendition of the new Rubber Bowl... https://www.dropbox.com/sh/linumwu1pwb83w5/...:null-model.avi Well, one thing was accurate, the number of fans there.
  17. Google Maps is blowing up with people all over the country looking to see where Akron is.
  18. MACtion is trending...
  19. I dunno guys. If I was Terry, Milwee would be walking home. And when he got back his shit would be in a trash bag next to his car.
  20. I had FaceBook friends telling me they were moving their cars off of Akron streets. LOL. One said if Akron wins he's flipping his own car. Biggest football game in Zips history?
