I mean it evens out over the course of a season, not this individual game.
-
Updated after tonight's results.
-
MAC officials are, in general, pretty awful and, in my opinion, worse than most other conferences. Sometimes that has helped us, sometimes that has hurt us. I think over the course of a season it evens out, but it sure is frustrating.

Can keep them out of the top 4. At least we'd make their potential tourney run a lot more difficult. Also, a win at Can't plus a win Monday gets them to 20 wins.
-
It appears we'll likely play either NIU or Ohio at home on Monday.
-
That's your opinion. I disagree.

Except it was something that had never been done before and gained national attention.

"I felt like [the timing] didn't matter because I felt like it was the best fit for me," Williams said. "The place is beautiful, they have a nice crowd and one thing that has Akron has, is stability."

No, but another mid-major would make more sense than perennial Top-Five-in-the-Nation programs. Look, I don't think anyone is saying a bobblehead giveaway, dollar hot dog nights, or t-shirt giveaways is going to magically sell out the JAR. Every single person on this forum knows winning at a high level is the ultimate cure-all. My point is that, until that happens, it doesn't give the Marketing Department a pass to at least try to help the attendance issue. They haven't done a damn thing this year.

1) I'm not sure how far you'll get comparing Ohio State football and Duke Basketball to Zips Basketball. 2) We all agree winning at a higher level (Tourney runs, Top 25, etc) is the best way to significantly increase attendance. That doesn't mean marketing should sit on the sidelines until that happens though.

Great breakdown!!! Things could get hairy if there are three or four teams tied...we may not necessarily hold the same tiebreakers in those cases. Just win baby!
-
I started putting together scenarios then decided to wait to see if we beat Miami first lol
-
If Akron beats Miami, things start to get very, very interesting...
-
Good call on CMU
-
So we need to win out and either: 1) Can't beats Buffalo, BG loses to both Can't and Buffalo. OR 2) Buffalo beats Can't, then loses to either Ohio or BG
-
Updated the OP. Go Miami (today only)!

I guess it depends on what you're looking for. I look for an entertaining team, likable players that represent the school well, and wins. I have received a ton of that since Keith Dambrot took over. I honestly don't know what, if anything, would bring students out. However, I do think marketing/promotions and the general student population have both failed to live up to their respective expectations.

Toledo drops a game to NIU. This conference...
-
I would be SHOCKED if Akron went winless the rest of this season. I know the last few games have hurt, but I think the bleeding stops Friday.
-
Sorry man, I just think that's a cop out. The marketing/promotions/engagement hasn't always been bad and students have never shown up consistently in large numbers.

I bet their students show up for more than their rivalry game too.

Sometimes. We won in 2013 with Nick freaking Harney running some point. We should have made the final last season with Nyles Evans and Carmelo Betancourt running the point. I'm not saying it isn't important, I'm just pointing out that it can be done and has been done without good guard play.
-
Yeah. The nice thing is there is a path regardless of who wins between Can't and Buffalo this weekend. I'd say we'd cheer for Buffalo though as it seems like the easier scenario.
-
I will never, ever count out a Keith Dambrot-coached team in the MAC Tournament. It starts with a big win Friday night against OU.
-
So here's where we are in regard to any hope for a #4 seed. 1) Akron wins out and finishes 11-7 2) Can't State loses to Buffalo. 3) Buffalo loses to OU or BG. OR 1) Akron wins out. 2) Buffalo loses to Can't. 3) BG loses two of their last three. Simply put - there's still a shot at a top four seed, but it will take winning out and a lot of dominoes to fall in the Zips favor.
