Can you watch on ESPN 3? If so, Google Chromecast is the way to go.

I know ratings aren't everything but even so, this is part of why I'm downright worried. LINK -
Worst Play Call in Football History?

Anyone seen anything on Teague?

Looking back on my original post, I was way off with Pat. Then again, I didn't see many people predicting a breakout year for Forsythe. I'm thrilled for him. McAdams has been a bit of a disappointment since MAC play began. He had his 31 point explosion against CMU, but he's only scored 20 points in the other 7 conference games. I really thought he'd take a big step this year and he just hasn't. Kretzer has struggled as well, especially the last two games. With that said, although it doesn't seem like it, his overall numbers are pretty much in line with his career norms. I think one of the two will need to start playing a little better if the Zips are to win the conference.

Zips at BGSU. Battle for first place.

Five left at home, five left on the road...plus the MAC Tournament. If the Zips don't hit 20 wins, something went seriously wrong. -
So I'm watching Buffalo and Can't ....

Can't State is also overrated. There are 4-5 teams that have a realistic shot at The Q. -
So you all missed my disclaimer in the very first sentence in bold? Lol. To repeat - I never said this year's team won't be special. I think they win the MAC and possibly a 1st Round NCAA game. I just look at next year and think that team could be REALLY special, like Sweet 16 kind of special. If you don't want to look that far ahead, why not just ignore this thread clearly labeled as discussing next season?

(Disclaimer: I am NOT saying this team cannot win the MAC, nor am I saying they cannot make an NCAA Tournament run this year.) Next year's Zips team is shaking out to be potentially a really special group. Our last two shots at making an NCAA Tournament run have been hijacked - once by Doug Penno, the second time by off-court issues. Is it possible the third time is the charm? We'll have a nice group of big men. Pat Forsythe will anchor the team down low as a senior, with Isaiah Johnson hopefully getting into better shape and continuing to develop. Kwan Cheatham has the potential to be the team's best player (he reminds me of a better version of Chris McKnight). While they may redshirt, Peter Agba and Emmanuel Olojapoke could contribute as true freshmen if needed. We'll have a nice group of wings. BJ Gladden continues to look better and better and could start. Jake Kretzer will contribute "the little things" and provide outside shooting, as will Regiie McAdams. Aaron Jackson will bring a ton of energy and athleticism and could end up starting as well, although Dambrot might prefer to use him as a spark Quincy Diggs-style. The backcourt is what I'm most excited about. Robotham will continue to grow this season and could pair with Josh Williams, a Mr. Ohio Basketball candidate, to form the most dynamic backcourt in the conference. Antino Jackson will continue to get better and hopefully add a bit more bulk, and we'll get to see what Jimond Ivy can do. Overall, this team will be able to do a little bit of everything. I think they're good enough to make a run this year. I think they'l be good enough to dominate the MAC next year. It could be opportunity #3 to finally get that elusive NCAA Tournament run.

Unfortunately, that would be impossible. Hope Tree finds success in his 2nd chance.

As much as I'm embarrassed by this, I'm also seeing some of our own athletes tweeting about #BuckeyeNation and stuff. Not a ton you can say when you're own players are OSU fans.

Lol. Never change, ZipsNation.

I'll be the first to say they were beyond awful tonight.

Peter Agba transferring to Rochester College

Agba is the new Tree folks. -
There's great irony in you talking about how bad the arena is in one breath and complaining about nobody worth a damn coming to play us in it in the next. You think "name" opponents don't see/feel the same thing about the JAR? That's why we're talking about renovations and/or a new arena in the first place.
-
Thanks! Yeah, I think it'd make a nice middle ground. Modest improvements now that will make an impact but won't cost so much as to put a new arena out of the question.
-
I'd simplify things: 1) Replace the bleachers with chair-backs. I think this would make a major difference. My wife won't go to a game if we're sitting in the bleachers, and I don't think she's alone on that. 2) Unify the student section. This has to happen. The section(s) aren't big enough to make a big enough impact on the game, even if students do show up. 3) Re-brand the student section. I know this won't be popular with some, but calling them the AK-Rowdies makes it seem like a group you have to join. Name the section itself and welcome all students. And hey, the current AK-Rowdies can have a faction within that section if they want. 4) Replace the jumbotron. We need something HD...the jumbotron is the first thing you notice at an arena. 5) Increase marketing. What happened to some of the things we were starting to see? We can give away free tuition at a football game but not at a basketball game? I thought the giveaways of the replica ring, LeBron bobblehead, and Dambrot bobblehead gave nice boosts to attendance as well, and probably made the folks in attendance feel better when they took something cool home with them. I've said it before, but something like a Romeo Travis/Dru Joyce set of bobbleheads would be cool. 6) Improve the team shop. Having people rely on calling an outside business to get their high-quality Zips gear is unacceptable. It's hard to get mad at people wearing OSU stuff around campus when the selection of Zips stuff is so limited. If they're worried about a product not selling, do online orders like they did with the black jerseys and shorts.

Now that conference play is upon us, it's time to make some predictions on who will win the MAC Tournament. I'm going to think with my head over my heart and say Toledo, although I do think Akron makes it to the Championship game. They have two bad losses (Detroit and Oakland) but have played well against teams like Duke, VCU, and Oregon. With a trio of seniors in Brown, Drummond, and Weatherspoon, I think experience is the deciding factor in Cleveland. I do think the experience will be beneficial for the young Zips and that they'll enter 2015-2016 as the favorites in the MAC.

When Caleb Porter took over the Zips soccer team, he inherited a group that had just won two consecutive MAC Championships and just finished off an NCAA Tournament Round of 16 run. The team was already one of the better programs in the entire country. When Keith Dambrot took over the Zips basketball team, they had just finished a 13-15 season, losing in the 1st Round of the MAC Tournament. The program had not advanced more than one round since joining the MAC. This isn't to give excuses to Dambrot or to dismiss the greatness of what Porter accomplished here - but it's tough for me to compare the two given where they started. In the first 12 seasons the Zips basketball team played in the MAC, they had three winning seasons. They were 1-7 in the MAC Tournament (they didn't qualify the first 5 seasons). In the 10 full seasons since Dambrot has taken over, they have 10 winning campaigns, 3 MAC Championships, 7 MAC Finals appearances, and are 20-7 in the MAC Tournament. Dambrot has already taken this program to a much higher level than it was at when he started. That is indisputable. Now the goal is to take it to an even higher level, which I promise you he is trying his absolute hardest to do. He might tell George Thomas the goal is to win the MAC and it might seem like that's all that he's shooting for, but it couldn't be further from what they are trying to do. They're working their tails off to take it to the next level, and I believe in him doing just that. Final note - 2012-2013 was supposed to be the year it happened. The Diggs suspension and the Abreu arrest killed that from happening, but that team - which won 26 games, the MAC Tournament, and had a Top 25 ranking - with Diggs added and Abreu staying on the team would have absolutely made a Tournament run. I know, coulda, shoulda, woulda, but I think we had our "next level" roster once already, we just didn't see it materialize in the end.

Players transferring out is more of the norm in college basketball these days. I think it seems different under Dambrot because the recruits have gradually increased in talent. The more talent you have, the greater the battle there will be for playing time. Carmelo is a perfect example - in the Dan Hipsher Era, he would have played all four years. Why isn't he on the team now? Because the Zips recruited two studs in Robotham and Jackson that were going to play ahead of him. There are also guys who greatly developed under Dambrot but left for other reasons. Alex Abreu turned into a damn good PG by his junior season. Tree went from a raw athlete to a polished Player of the Year candidate before he messed up off of the court. Even Nick Harney grew as a player - his off-court issues just got the best of him. Here are the graduation rates released in 2013. It doesn't fully apply as the numbers are based on four years of data collected from freshmen athletes who entered school between 2003-04 and 2006-07, but it still illustrates Akron is far from the only school bringing in and losing recruits. WMU - 100 Miami - 79 NIU - 77 Akron - 70 Can't - 65 Buffalo - 64 Ohio - 62 EMU - 60 Toledo - 60 Ball State - 55 BGSU - 55 CMU - 54

Not with three seasons. He was on pace to finish top 6 all-time in points and rebounds.
