I don't know if that is a good or bad thing. They definitely need some help from the incoming guys based on the showing at the spring game.

Sometimes when a person is wrong, they should just admit they are wrong and just move on. Digging the hole deeper is not the best thing to do. Please see page 2 of this thread. Your memry is not correct btw.

That's because football has become a passing game with the QB in the shotgun. The game moves too fast to put the QB under center unable to focus downfield. That is unless the o-line plays well.

Gozips.com photo blog #1 published 10/06: The concrete had already been poured in some sections. The photos are probably from around 10/01. Looks like pouring in "winter" did not cause the issues. http://www.gozips.com/PhotoAlbum.dbml?SPSI...mp;PALBID=22979 Gallery from 11/11: All of the sections in question are poured and apparently cured. They started on the West side first and some crumbling sections were done in the middle of October. Again, don't see an issue here with cramming to get done. http://www.gozips.com/PhotoAlbum.dbml?SPSI...mp;PALBID=24112

The Zips looked a little weak at WR and TE. Will Sconiers and/or Schrock get a look as freshmen? Also, Ritossa could be interesting in the new offense and Cunningham could see some time on D. I left the game thinking that there will be opportunities out there for the incoming guys. It can only help their chances that everybody is adjusting to new systems.

Pics of new parking deck and stadium dorms
MaxZIP replied to bUAkronG's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Nice pics! The campus is really looking nice these days. I like the red brick modern look. -
They played on grass once last year (Penn State) and will play twice this year (Kentucky, Temple). The MAC title game is on artificial turf as well. Seems like the 50 yard practice field is fine for the frequency of play on natural grass. Thats what I thought. You could say its a disadvantage, but when nearly your entire conference and the conference championship game are on turf, its just smarter to go with the it since you'll be playing on it more frequently. If we average something like 2 games per season on grass, there's just no significant need to have a full 100 yard dedicated practice field. Use of synthetic turf is increasing in the FBS. Pretty soon natural grass will be a rarity.

Temple is the only MAC school that plays on natural grass (NFL stadium).

JD and Coach I have both said that they practice in the stadium to increase the team's comfort level in their home stadium. The intent is to increase any potential home field advantage.

Effort There, Execution Not So Much....Yet

Some of our best offense last year came when Tuzze was pounding the ball up the middle. It would be nice to have a reliable ground game this year. -

This article was written 2 weeks after I was born and is still relevant today. The MAC and DIV 1-A/FBS Football were facing the same issues back then as they are now. I stumbled upon this looking for football budget stats. I find it amazing that we continue to argue these points like it is going to matter in the long run. FBS contraction, regional tv coverage, and basketball tourney structure. Continue on to page 26 for some additional info. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1350...pg=2385,8439343

Is it unusual for a sixth year of eligibility to be granted? AA and Jarvis have both earned their year however it just seems a little odd that they happened at the same time.

I got razzed by a Mount Union grad a few years ago because she said their football team scrimmaged ours and they beat us by a decent margin. I find that HIGHLY unlikely. I have watched both schools play and Akron would absolutely murder Mount Union by as many as they wanted to. the key word in your post is SHE .

Not eligible to participate until summer camp. Apparently monster hands are no good for picking up pencils, operating calculators, and/or turning pages?

Butler has a bulldog, can we get a real kangaroo?
MaxZIP replied to Let'sGoZips94's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
It could be a Zoo of MAC mascots. We could have a kangaroo, bull, bobcat (Or a large housecat), an eagle/hawk (paint one half orange&brown, the other Blue & maze, the ass red, and the turds green), and a sled dog. The remainder of the animals can be found living free in the general vicinity campus. The zoo keeper can dress as a Chippewa. It would be like the ESPN commercials. This is completely ridiculous...no dentist has ever performed surgery on an eagle to give it teeth before so the zoo can not be accurate. I hear the elusive Portage County Golden flush can most likely be found in two native locations…behind the counter at McDonalds or in your local jail. -

I believe a position has opened for a head custodian to take care of all garbage emptying and poop scooping duties. The applicant just needs an ironman Halloween costume painted blue or whatever color to start. -

New Parking Garage on Exchange
MaxZIP replied to scottditzen's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Yep that's me, I like to stomp on progression. In fact I am so angry that they turned Carroll St into some kind of outdoor living room that I've continuously petitioned to have either an arena or street placed there. A major portion of the campus without a street? Blasphemy. No Jake, all I was saying is, I would love to see the information on how they would turn parts of Exchange into a mall and have it not effect the accessibility of the new deck. I never said "down with progress". If you would read what people say and then form an opinion instead of forming an opinion and then reading for things that support that opinion, you would do so much better in here. The "mall" could probably start at grant. Getting to the garage would be easy from Wolfs Ledges and W. exchange. The idea might actually work well. I know it is only half of the south edge of campus but it would encompass the worst part of exchange while allowing access to the new garage area. I know Jake will like where the arena is listed. Pedestrians crossing from the new dorm area would also see much less traffic and lower speeds directly in front of the exchange residence hall due to the dead end. I would hope that most would cross in the newly created pedestrian area though. Half of the "new area for development" is already developed. The majority of that area is the Stadium and the rest is designated to other projects (dorms). I personally thought a reroute would create a curve near the stadium directing traffic onto Brown, and then another curve with a light to shoot people around to Wheeler, you run Wheeler through to Grant. Then Exchange would be a Mall between Sumner and Brown. The problem being that a lot of businesses exist that would not take too kindly to reduced flow. I am truly sorry that the oval is a little too large paint shop is a real pain. They are still planning to build phase 2 of the dorms on exchange right? That would classify as development potential in the area. Possibly mix in some retail similar to the existing exchange residence hall. Really it is about 25% of the oval from the about the 50 yard line that has already been developed. I'll be more exact next time. -

Not suggesting we need one, but more dangerous than a live Longhorn Steer (Texas), Buffalo (Colorado) or Tiger (LSU)? If there was a real call for it, it could be done. The local 9900, American Federation of Mascots, may have a problem with this. Akron is a union town and all. I think zippy would have a valid grievance. -
Impact of UA Sports and Infocision on the City
MaxZIP replied to MDZip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
I think they are moving in the right direction. The stadium and new residence halls will bring more students and fans to the area . Bringing in more normal people will hopefully change the types of businesses there. Out with tattoos, carwashes, plasma centers, and head shops. The last 7 years have seen remarkable change on Exchange. A new Stadium, 2-3 new residence halls, National City Bank, McDonalds, The new Taco Bell?, DQ, The Bike shop, Those new Condos, Expanded Parking deck are a great start. Give it 5 more years and Exchange will be looking fine.
