The entire athletic department would. Can they actually do that with a 4,000 seat stadium? I'd like to see the proof in the form of numbers.I would be amazed if they were to break even. They need tv money for that to happen and it is not there for soccer right now.

When with they get them on sale? It seems like the athletic department needs to get in high gear. I wonder if ticket prices will go up as we continue to build on last year's successes .

The only problem with the Buckingham site is the extremely busy rail trunk line that runs about 10 yards from the backside for the building. Having classes in the CBA was very interesting at times. The profs would have to stop talking at least twice a class due to noise from the train. It wasn't just the horn. The vibrations and squealing from the wheels on the tracks were overwhelming. I hope they use modern sound proofing technology or the building will not be the quiet sanctuary of justice they have envisioned.

I would like season tickets now please.

Watch Rob Ianello Press Conference (Live at Noon)
MaxZIP replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
That is what he is quoted as saying he wanted. What did KD say to make him believe that he could get that here. The actual selling points that brought him in. -
Pass on PSU and Wisky in the same year.Give me Western Kentucky in our brand new stadium instead of an ass whooping in front of 70k.We should play at least 6 at home each year. Seven would be nice but we didn't build a stadium to sit idle.

Watch Rob Ianello Press Conference (Live at Noon)
MaxZIP replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
When Ianello was given responsibility for football operations at Notre Dame after Weis was fired, he said the following:He stressed that Notre Dame is “about all the right things in college athletics, and that is why you should come to school here.”He talked about Weis meeting with two recruits after the home loss to UConn and how Weis stressed the same message to those recruits – that Notre Dame is a place you go to because of the school and what it stands for, not just the coaching staff. In talking about why recruits choose Notre Dame, Ianello said that recruits come to Notre Dame because: “You come to school here because everybody that comes here is going to get a degree. We graduate everyone that stays here."uhnd.com linkI like that.Me too, but remember that his schtick is going to have to be different here. Every place, every university, every program has something to sell. Rob is going to have to work aggressively to hone a theme to be used in recruiting for UA. Ideas about what "pitch" might work the best with the kids UA wants in the program?Rob should head over to the JAR and ask KD what he said to get Zeke to commit. -

Find out if the kid wants to win or is just attracted to a new stadium and all the fluff associated with that. If so, we shouldn't be interested. If everyone else is selling stadiums and facilities, do something different. Sell a commitment to winning. A kid who buys winning wants to win. A kid who buys a new stadium wants the new stadium. Start a culture of winning.I too believe that a player's will to win can close a talent gap.I agree. Here is how I see it. I have made no bones about my belief we have enough talent on the team to win next year. A winning attitude in addition to talent makes for a very good team.I once worked as a sales manager for a Berkshire Hathaway company and we brought in a new Division Manager who wanted to do things differently. He was a tough guy who told all of us what he wanted to do and said we needed to "change the people or change the people". The sales force we had was good, but lazy and set in their ways because they were frankly older. Heck, I was 38 and the youngest of all the other five managers. The guy manager closest in age was 58. The seven sales reps who reported to me were all older than I was. Believe me, when they heard about what he said, they changed quickly. Only a few had to be shown the door and one of them was a fellow manager. People can change with the right leadership. The Zips can win next year. I feel a slow clap coming on...

How many on this board know that when a MAC schools makes their bowl game, they actually lose money? The Motor City Bowl pays $750,000. Over one half of that has to be given back to the bowl as a conference tie-in. The other half consists of a lump number of tickets given to the school valued at the remaining value after the buy-in. Face value of MCB tickets is pretty high. The school can sell the tickets at whatever price they wish. They couldn't sell all of the tickets at face value so they sell them at a deflated price. I'd bet UofA actually lost money in our last trip to the MCB and we had a GREAT turnout.Does the athletic department publish their financial info like other departments do? It would be interesting to see what exactly goes on behind the scenes. Why certain decisions were made and what drives the program's engine. How much money did the University make in the 2005 MAC Championship game. Nothing. How much mileage did the University get out of the Getsy-to-Hixon catch? How much national exposure was garnered form winning that game (ie. Chris Berman's "It's a great time to be a Zip"), and subsequently getting to the MCB?Only the smallest of the small minds looks at getting to the Motor City (or Pizza...or whatever it is) Bowl strictly from a dollar-cost point of view. It is huge for the program's credibility. It legitimizes the program as a contender. It gives Akron-area fans a reason to follow, and get excited about the team. It is a free month of practice time that non-bowl teams don't get.So the bean counters say we lost $100,000 on the Motor City Bowl. How much would a 3 1/2 hour commercial for UA football on ESPN cost? You are 100% correct. College Football is a potential goldmine in terms of exposure on a grand scale. Expenditures for football must be weighed with potential gains in areas that are difficult to quantify through traditional accounting methods.

The point should be that a TE is important if we plan to run a more pro style offense. The spread/gimmick MAC version of the system doesn't emphasize either position due to the basis of spread theory. I think a FB and TE would work well in the MAC because it gives you an opportunity to get the ball to them on the second level and let them demolish undersized DB's. The same might not be the case in the Big 10 where they have physical DB's. The NFL is refined to such a point that they rely on TE's to fill many roles and have the option to choose from a larger talent pool to get the right player to fit their system. They can get a receiving specialist or a road grader. Either way that player has multiple roles on a 53 man roster and can prove to be very versatile. Colleges are selecting young and often physically underdeveloped boys to fill a real man's position. Therefore it is tough to get the right guy for their system. Bottom line I believe that a power run game and a pass game centered on moving chains to be the best option for Akron at this time.

SeeTeeZip is on fire with good posts today. We didn't build a new stadium to play PSU and tOSU on the road. Lets get some low end CUSA and Sun Belt teams to play us home and home.Play on freaking Saturday when the sun is up and people can enjoy a nice afternoon outside. Maybe someone like me who has to drive 7 hours might have more options as to when I go watch the Zips.Ignore when tOSU is playing.Right now, TW has to be thinking about how to get some of the BCS teams we have on our schedule for next year off of the schedule and get more I-AA teams. The same goes for the following year.I bet the zips could generate comparable revenue to a cash game/sure loss with a home game early in the year against a CUSA, MWC, or Sunbelt team. It will be interesting to see of TW can leverage thenew stadium to bring some mid level terams north. I bet Akron could haul in nearly a million dollars for a sold out home game. When will the athletic department publish their financials for the 2009/10 season?

Akron could vie for State Title Game

The stadium planners did a great job of planning ahead to make sure the info had the necessary locker room and support facilities to handle this type of event. Nice job guys -

Thankyou for your opinion Mrs. Hipsher.I would be willing to bet you are a woman who laughs at her own jokes. You would lose a lot of money on that one.I however, would be willing to bet that you have some close relationship to the Hipsher family and would make a killing. If we're going to name a new arena after a coach Hipsher isn't exactly high on the list. The guy compiled a very mediocre 112-137 with 5 losing seasons and one .500 season in 9 years here. He never took us out of the quarterfinals of the MAC tournament let along to the NCAA's or NIT's. Never got to 20 wins on a season. Only twice did he finish better than .500 in the MAC. Fact of the matter is Hipsher's impact on the Zips basketball program was insignificant at best. All that matters is that his son got plenty of playing time.

Why doesn't Akron play Y-town State on the regular. Penguin fans travel in force and would probably fill the Info with increased community interest.

Are they trying to hide this game or did they just want the season to be over a couple of hours early.

Beating Notre Dame in football hasn't been meaningful since the early 90's.It would look great in HD on national TV though.

Is the GoZips.com store lame or what?
MaxZIP replied to RootforRoo44's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
The online store is rough but I like what they sell at the stadium. Good selection for a small window area. They will probably expand the offerings when they have the floorspace to display it all.
