Alienating them is one thing....isolating them is another. I am all in favor of passionate fans and students but isolating and ridiculing other Zips fans is rather...pathetic. Work to get your group in a separate section if you don't like to sit with less enthusiastic fans. Get a group to sow up early and mark of your section if the school will not do it for you. The plan should be to make things enjoyable that others will join in. But if they don't...leave them alone. Go Zips Go Rowdies That's the problem...We've done things to get them involved. They just don't want to put the effort in. But then when it gets time to tournament time, they want a ticket, and we try to give it to the ones we know will get that place an advantage for us. Then we give it out to the others with the tickets we have left. It's strictly business come playoff time. Same with basketball. I just don't get what you want from us Doug Snyder. I'm hearing it's sad that OSU's 100 students were louder than our 1,800+ students, but yet you want to keep us together with the students that are diluting the sound of the Rowdies. What do you want us to do? We can please everyone. We're there for the soccer team. Not to make students happy...
-
It is embarassing...but you should see page 5 of this thread to see how frustrating for some of us...You never hear about the dedicated ones not caring...it's always the bigger games that the "I don't care" ones come out of hibernation for a day...
-
Maybe we won't alienate them if they actually cared about being part of the game instead of being at the game. Just hard to see the more dedicated Rowdies get no support from everyone else. If the "non-dedicated" students wouldn't mock, laugh, and be sarcastic about what we do, maybe we wouldn't isolate them...
-
Thanks bisbee....but like what Porter has been saying about this team, I think the Rowdies are just "scratching the surface". IF we can get everyone doing the same chant at same time, it'll be more electric than ever before. But that's like saying Ohio State isn't dirty...not happening...
-
I'm not going to make excuses, but it didn't help that Paul Hammond came over and told us that there was certain chants we couldn't say...
-
You nailed it. It's almost like we need a section on the hill for the "Super" ROWDIES. It's really hard to get into a chant if no one else around you is joining in. As for me, my throat is sore, so I did my part... That's one of the big reasons they are separated for basketball games. We show up to the games to affect the final score, not to chat with friends and only cheer when somebody with a microphone tells us to. Exactly...At the next soccer match, can we get the "REAL ROWDIES" the spot right beside the opponents bench? Just wondering if that's possible

Yaznasty, ZachtheZip, UAzipsMan, and others. Glad I'm not the only one that had people around me that wouldn't do anything. I thought it was my attractiveness...okay...jokes aside...To be honest, glad isn't the right word to say...More like sad is the right word...

That's what happens when you get the students show up that has never been to a game in their life, and decide to come to this one. I've been to every home football, men's soccer, women's soccer, and volleyball match so far, and I got stuck in the 3rd row today. People in front of me were socializing. I was not happy. With how many students are there, it's hard for us to hear what chants are being said when you're all the way on the other side from "officers". With that many students, I hate to say this, but we might have to schedule our chants. Start the "Glory to the Zippers" chant around 40 minute spot, "Zips Marching In" around the 35 minute mark, etc. So that everyone knows what chants to do at what time. That's the only way I can think about it working with that amount of students. It's easier to get 100 students on the same page than 1,800+ students... Of course, common sense in the 2nd half please. When Meves is in front of us, please be quiet on corner kicks and free kicks. If not, don't let the gate hit you on the way out. Let's just say that many people didn't have common sense tonight... Some students feel that it's good to just show up all painted and that and not say one word. "We're fine." NO YOU'RE NOT. YOU. ARE. PART. OF. THE. GAME!!!!!! Don't like it? Later ...Student Union's open til 11pm...hope to never see you again. I'm tired of these students. It's unreal. I was louder than the people in front of me for 90 straight minutes. By the way, from 4-6pm I was at a high school yelling at athletes during conditioning/weight lifting workout today for basketball preseason. Drove down I-77, walked into "The Pouch", and started yelling at OSUcks while warming up. Then for all 90 minutes I yelled and chanted. No excuse for the others. My soccerhead was on, but I moved it back to yell more since no one else was helping around me. Then, they laughed at me or gave me a sarcastic "you're stupid" or "you're an idiot" look while I'm saying it. Don't let the gate hit you on the way out, either I could not hear Ohio State's students, so I don't know how all you could of, but whatever...couldn't hear much of anyone around me either... As for my athletes at the high school, we have preseason workouts for them tomorrow. Luckily for them, I may not have my voice back by then...

That was awesome! Who is #7, who makes the dribble move at the 45-55 sec point? edit -- Ashley Hughes, 5-3 junior MF. Ashley "La Nina" Hughes" yeah...here is sunday's if you didn't see it: -
For the past couple days, I've heard ESPN Cleveland (850AM) advertise the OSU-Akron soccer game on air. In fact, just heard it. They said that as of tuesday, there is still tickets available...
-
Here's what they're now doing even though their head coach complains about Akron students being behind the goal. Comments are hilarious as well... http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=101...e=1&theater

In case everyone is wondering, Ohio State is bringing 2 buses of students up for the game tomorrow. The Rowdies are expecting a student record attendance for this game. Which will be remarkable with how many students was there for the Tulsa game.

I want to also mention this as well. If anyone was there today, and heard the very few vuvuzelas be more loud than usual as the game went on today at random spots. The reason for that was because one of the stadium staff members told us that an EMU parent and/or fan was complaining about the vuvuzelas. He also told us that the person thought it was unsportsmanlike to blow those vuvuzelas during the match. So he told us he wanted us to blow them louder than we already were. During women's games, some of us students usually travel from The Hill, to the other side, since there's not many people there. The person that complained was on that side taking photos for her daughter or for the team in general, not quite sure. But when one of us started blowing one of the vuvuzelas, she took a hold of it, and then tugged on it and through it onto the practice field. Then laughed about it like a little kid. One of the assistant coaches for Lady Zips, saw it, and opened the practice field's gate for us to go get it. Want to thank that assistant coach for helping us out there. The very creepy part was that the person was taking photos of us as well even though the person was not very "happy" about what we were doing. She tossed the vuvuzela onto the practice field just a minute or two before Ashley Hughes scored the first goal. So not sure if karma helped or not as well -

I was there this weekend. They've been playing better each match since they lost to South Florida 1-0. They beat Florida Atlantic 4-0 a couple weekends ago, Eastern Illinois 2-0 last weekend, and then tied the back-to-back defending MAC Champions, Central Michigan, 0-0. They then beat Eastern Michigan 3-0 today. The team is playing better, but if they can execute their passes and control the ball better, no one can stop this team. Coach Pfau was right that the talent level of this team is right up there, and possibly better, than the rest of the MAC. Very impressed. Needs to see if we can win on the road next weekend at Northern Illinois and Western Michigan. If we can do that, this team is going to be one to watch the rest of the year. Just to give you an idea, 5 out of the 8 teams in the MAC tournament last year was from the MAC West. We only got 1 win(3 pts) from MAC West teams last year. We already have 4 pts this year against the MAC West. Here's the improvement from last year to this year: 2010 AT Central Michigan L 1-3 AT Eastern Michigan L 1-4 2011 vs Central Michigan T 0-0(2OT) vs Eastern Michigan W 3-0 I feel bad that they didn't show Kelly DeNiro's goal. It was a boom of a kick, and was in the upper right of the goal. Was one heck of a kick. Just to give you the class for these 3 goals and who scored: Junior Ashley Hughes scored in 54th minute Sophomore Kelly DeNiro scored in 68th minute Freshman Alexandra Frawley scored in 83rd minute -
Perfect timing for Luke Holmes' first match. Can't wait to see the impact he makes this week on the team in a match instead of just in practice...

Nicely had his chance. Let's give Moore the season to see what he can do. In my opinion, he's better than Nicely. I highly doubt Nicely would of done better against OSUcks, Temple, and Cincinnati. Don't forget, Nicely was the quarterback when we lost to Gardner-Webb. Let's see what Moore does against VMI, before we start calling for Moore's head. We can't see what Nicely and Moore does in practice, but the coaches do. Even though I have my dislikes about the coaching staff, they wouldn't start the quarterback that is more terrible than the other one. Each decision they make is an effect on their jobs in the future. They don't try to screw it up on purpose. If people are saying to stop hating Ianello, let's stop hating Moore
