Akron has 10 fouls to Bronco's 8 fouls. EIGHT offsides to Bronco's 1 offside. I'm not sure how the officiating is, but it's either we're playing the worse game we've played since the Michigan State home opener, or there's some home cooking by the refs in Kalamazoo... -

No problem, GoZips. Just trying to get the word about this women's soccer team. They're the real deal. If they win or tie today, and squeak out a win against Toledo next sunday, the women's soccer team will be in the driver's seat to host the MAC tournament. We will see how it goes. Finals from today: Akron 1, Northern Illinois 0 Toledo 1, Bowling Green 0 Buffalo 0, Central Michigan 0 Can't State 2, Eastern Michigan 1 Ohio 2, Western Michigan 1 Ball State 2, Miami 1 -
Saturday, September (3-0-0) Toledo at Miami(OH) (1-2-0) ; 1:00pm (2-0-1) Akron at Western Michigan (1-2-0) ; 1:00pm (1-1-1) Buffalo at Eastern Michigan (0-3-0) ; 1:00pm (2-1-0) Ohio at Northern Illinois (0-3-0) ; 2:00pm (2-1-0) Can't State at Central Michigan (1-0-2) ; 2:30pm (2-1-0) Ball State at Bowling Green (1-2-0) ; 3:00pm _____________________________________________________________ Here's some of the notes from the GoZips.com article. One section in particular caught my eye(in bold lettering): "Last Time Out... • Akron tied defending MAC Tournament Champs CMU behind three saves from Jeny Wolbert in net. • The Zips then trounced EMU with three second half goals to pick up three points in the standings. • Wolbert was forced into just three saves in the EMU win to pick up the 22nd win of her career, breaking the UA career record. Ashley Hughes, Kelly DeNiro, and Alexandra Frawley all scored for Akron. • The Zips dominated after halftime, outshooting EMU 8-3 in the second period" "Quotable... • Coach Chris Pfau on the opening weekend of MAC play: "It's probably the best weekend we have had as a team since I've been here. We played really well for long stretches in both matches and came out with four points against two very tough teams." • Senior Jeny Wolbert on winning MAC Defensive Player of the Week: "We've been playing great defensively as a team the last few weeks, so this award is really a testament to our whole team. Keeping clean sheets is always our goal defensively and it takes a solid team effort from everyone on the field to get the job done." "Defensive Minded... • With the exception of one match, Akron has played excellent defense to begin the 2011 season. • Excluding the 5-0 loss to Michigan State, UA is allowing just 0.29 goals a match this season. • The Zips backline has recorded five clean sheets and allowed just one score in two other matches. • Even including the 5-0 loss to MSU, Akron is 15th in the nation (2nd in the MAC) in shutout percantage at .652 - earning five shutouts in eight matches. • UA currently holds a shutout streak of 406 minutes going into this weekend. The Zips have kept clean sheets in four straight matches."

And yet 100 OSU students were louder at times according to most of you. We out numbered them 28 to 1, and we didn't blow them away....

by the way, Porter would tell the Rowdies if we were bad. Tonight he said this " "One of the best I've seen here." So not sure what you all were hearing...we do have some new chants...maybe you heard those for the majority of it. Anyways, there's still improvement that could be done...If pro supporters can get it done, so can we.. I can pick up on any chant, I'm familiar with most soccer chants in the US and the world. But for the average or new soccer fan. They have no clue. Improvements would be great, but I'm saying most great supporter groups have CAPO's to direct the supporter groups. Just a thought. Didn't mean to reply to your post Crew8. But since I did, ill mention something. It's a good idea...could go different routes with that...my post was basically to everyone out there...

No problem. I love your enthusiasm. Part of my discussion stems from discussions during last basketball season where some forum members think it is right and OK to isolate and ridicule fans that do not participate. So...when you use the word "isolate" I may be assuming something your did not mean. If you go the women's soccer games as you say you do...you will surely will see me with my 3 year old daughter. We go to all the games where it is not raining. (we are not chanting :-). Stop by an introduce yourself. I might of seen you walking by us in the 2nd half on sunday. We were behind EMU's goalie. In fact, my vuvuzela got thrown over to the practice field by the EMU lady in the white shirt that was taking photos. She thought it was unsportsmanlike to be blowing the vuvuzelas during the women's soccer match.

Sorry for the way I'm coming off on here. Just getting confused by it. Just don't understand about the respect thing. I've been respectful to the fans. People we're in front of me that aren't normally in front of me (I'm usually in front row). Just hard for me to do that when I'm repeatedly getting not respected. two wrongs don't make a right, and I know that. I never said anything to them, I kept the thoughts in my head to discuss here. Because there's no where else for the students to go that just want to watch the game and not chant, etc. I GET THAT. Just frustrating when you have more students and the opposing students are louder in your own house.

Just in case you misunderstood one of my previous posts, Some of us "Super-Rowdies" we're the ones getting laughed, mocked, and had sarcasm thrown our way...not the other way around...just want to clarify that...Because I know if it was the other way around and the "Super Rowdies" we're the ones doing it, everyone would be all over it...

Alienating them is one thing....isolating them is another. I am all in favor of passionate fans and students but isolating and ridiculing other Zips fans is rather...pathetic. Work to get your group in a separate section if you don't like to sit with less enthusiastic fans. Get a group to sow up early and mark of your section if the school will not do it for you. The plan should be to make things enjoyable that others will join in. But if they don't...leave them alone. Go Zips Go Rowdies That's the problem...We've done things to get them involved. They just don't want to put the effort in. But then when it gets time to tournament time, they want a ticket, and we try to give it to the ones we know will get that place an advantage for us. Then we give it out to the others with the tickets we have left. It's strictly business come playoff time. Same with basketball. I just don't get what you want from us Doug Snyder. I'm hearing it's sad that OSU's 100 students were louder than our 1,800+ students, but yet you want to keep us together with the students that are diluting the sound of the Rowdies. What do you want us to do? We can please everyone. We're there for the soccer team. Not to make students happy...
-
It is embarassing...but you should see page 5 of this thread to see how frustrating for some of us...You never hear about the dedicated ones not caring...it's always the bigger games that the "I don't care" ones come out of hibernation for a day...
-
Maybe we won't alienate them if they actually cared about being part of the game instead of being at the game. Just hard to see the more dedicated Rowdies get no support from everyone else. If the "non-dedicated" students wouldn't mock, laugh, and be sarcastic about what we do, maybe we wouldn't isolate them...
-
Thanks bisbee....but like what Porter has been saying about this team, I think the Rowdies are just "scratching the surface". IF we can get everyone doing the same chant at same time, it'll be more electric than ever before. But that's like saying Ohio State isn't dirty...not happening...
-
I'm not going to make excuses, but it didn't help that Paul Hammond came over and told us that there was certain chants we couldn't say...
-
You nailed it. It's almost like we need a section on the hill for the "Super" ROWDIES. It's really hard to get into a chant if no one else around you is joining in. As for me, my throat is sore, so I did my part... That's one of the big reasons they are separated for basketball games. We show up to the games to affect the final score, not to chat with friends and only cheer when somebody with a microphone tells us to. Exactly...At the next soccer match, can we get the "REAL ROWDIES" the spot right beside the opponents bench? Just wondering if that's possible
-
Yaznasty, ZachtheZip, UAzipsMan, and others. Glad I'm not the only one that had people around me that wouldn't do anything. I thought it was my attractiveness...okay...jokes aside...To be honest, glad isn't the right word to say...More like sad is the right word...

That's what happens when you get the students show up that has never been to a game in their life, and decide to come to this one. I've been to every home football, men's soccer, women's soccer, and volleyball match so far, and I got stuck in the 3rd row today. People in front of me were socializing. I was not happy. With how many students are there, it's hard for us to hear what chants are being said when you're all the way on the other side from "officers". With that many students, I hate to say this, but we might have to schedule our chants. Start the "Glory to the Zippers" chant around 40 minute spot, "Zips Marching In" around the 35 minute mark, etc. So that everyone knows what chants to do at what time. That's the only way I can think about it working with that amount of students. It's easier to get 100 students on the same page than 1,800+ students... Of course, common sense in the 2nd half please. When Meves is in front of us, please be quiet on corner kicks and free kicks. If not, don't let the gate hit you on the way out. Let's just say that many people didn't have common sense tonight... Some students feel that it's good to just show up all painted and that and not say one word. "We're fine." NO YOU'RE NOT. YOU. ARE. PART. OF. THE. GAME!!!!!! Don't like it? Later ...Student Union's open til 11pm...hope to never see you again. I'm tired of these students. It's unreal. I was louder than the people in front of me for 90 straight minutes. By the way, from 4-6pm I was at a high school yelling at athletes during conditioning/weight lifting workout today for basketball preseason. Drove down I-77, walked into "The Pouch", and started yelling at OSUcks while warming up. Then for all 90 minutes I yelled and chanted. No excuse for the others. My soccerhead was on, but I moved it back to yell more since no one else was helping around me. Then, they laughed at me or gave me a sarcastic "you're stupid" or "you're an idiot" look while I'm saying it. Don't let the gate hit you on the way out, either I could not hear Ohio State's students, so I don't know how all you could of, but whatever...couldn't hear much of anyone around me either... As for my athletes at the high school, we have preseason workouts for them tomorrow. Luckily for them, I may not have my voice back by then...
