  1. Akron and Can't tied 0-0 at half
  2. DiG, I completely understand and I let it get to me. Zipmeister is different though because we all know that basically 98% of his posts are sarcasm. It's people that I never hear on here all of a sudden that show up out of nowhere and put nothing in their post for me to think it was sarcasm. As I was trying to take my outburst typed out, and then delete it, I was debating with a friend about how they argued that men's soccer deserves better support from athletics. And that women's basketball, men's basketball, and football get too much support from the athletic department, and that it's totally a shame that this university is shpwing it so obvious to everyone. That just blew my mind to pieces and couldn't believe what he was saying. This is the same guy that never goes to men's or women's basketball games, and he says this? Then with the weather, the sad week of Akron sports to this point, high school basketball starting to make me worry that it's right around the corner(week from today), and then this friend decides to say this? It kind of put me over the edge when typing all that... I said I was sorry about it, and I still feel sorry for it. I'm trying to put it behind me, and learn from it...Next time, I'm going to make sure I don't hit "Add Thread" or "Add Reply" when someone gets me a little over the edge...
  3. Here's a 9 page discussion on BigSoccer.com about it. Different point of views from the other thread that mentioned it...http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1837287

  6. Even though their chances of winning the MAC regular season championship is just about gone, the team that looks like they're winning it, has one blemish on their record in MAC play(Toledo at 7-0-1). And we have that tie with them. I believe in this team, and the one thing this team is missing, is vocal student support. Please students, if you hate Can't as much as some of us posters, please show up at Can't today at 4pm. Admission is free, and a whole point in the Wagon Wheel Challenge is on the line. 7. Your point? Just because someone asked you that question about WBB on a MBB thread, you are going to try and stir the pot on a football thread? Yeah. I care. A lot.sorry about that post...i thought i put a rolling eyes emoticon on this and try to turn my anger towards certain posters into jokes, but it didn't really work and I lost it completely when I saw your post and didn't look at mine to see I forgot the emoticon. Sorry about that...
  8. I want to say that I'm sorry to everyone out there. Should not of posted this. I should of just typed it out, and deleted it after I got it out of my head. I didn't, and I'm sorry that I fell into the hole of negativity this week. It's been a stressful, tiring, and long two weeks. With midterms finally winding down, I now have high school basketball picking up speed as we start practices next Friday. The weather is getting on my nerves, and wasn't helping. Then, with the constant "laughing at me" when I'm trying to persuade students to go to women's soccer game at Can't, and home game vs Ohio. Then, i messed up on a couple of my posts, and misunderstood the replies to my posts which were misunderstandings to begin with. When I go to almost every home sporting events and a few away sporting events, it really bothers me when some people feel they have a better grasp of a team than I do. However, with this said, I'm NEVER , ever, always right. I will be wrong from time to time, but just because of one loss that I felt they were going to win, don't count that team out as "they have a long way to go." I am going to make two points though that I feel should be brought up:A) I will go to the Zips march for Coach Porter, but I refuse to stand with the Rowdies until the Lady Zips get a "support" at their games. The reason why the men's team never loses at home, is because there's support to pick them up when there's adversity. With women's soccer, if they face adversity(I hope no women's soccer player takes what I'm about to say personally), it snowballs right in front of them. The reason for that is because of two reasons: 1) they have to rely on each other to pick themselves up, and 2) usually it turns a home game into an away game when they fall behind at home because usually each opponent brings in a better crowd than we do. I feel the Miami(OH) loss at home could of been prevented if there was support, and I feel the Michigan State loss would of been closer if they would of had more vocal student support. There's 3 more chances for the Rowdies to prove their motto or slogan, and be supportive of ALL athletics at Akron. Two of the 3 games are close enough they should go:tomorrow at Can't State-4pm start-FREE ADMISSION for everyoneSunday at Buffalo-12pm start-FREE ADMISSION(men's game is free admission tomorrow as well)Thursday vs Ohio-3pm start-FREE ADMISSION FOR STUDENTS WITH ZIP CARD B ) Will not be able to give in-game updates as I will be at Can't tomorrow fighting, chanting, and yelling at Can't State's goalie in political, well thought, words for that full point for the Wagon Wheel Challenge. If everyone doesn't know, we currently have a 1/2 point lead on Can't State in that challenge right now with Zips volleyball beating Can't State on homecoming weekend 3-0. I might be going to Buffalo sunday to see the women's soccer team as well. However, I'm going to sleep on this and post my usual weekend standings in the morning before I make any more ridiculous thoughts. I may even post the MAC scores so far from the men's side as well to try and make up for my irresponsible posts/thread. Once again, I'm sorry to everyone and won't let it get to me again. Just to let everyone know, since my midterms are finally over, I'm going to enjoy tomorrow whether it's sunny or snowing. I am going to men's basketball practice in the morning(if they have it...can't remember if they do), then eat lunch, watch the women's basketball practice, and then head over to Can't to watch the Lady Zips give Akron a point and a half lead over Can't State in the Wagon Wheel Challenge. Feel free to let me know if you're going to any of them and I would be willing to meet with you. Then, I''m off to see my alma mater play against a very good opponent on senior night, and hopefully pull the upset like they did last week...then saturday, coach my brother's youth soccer game at 8am, come up and see women's basketball practice, tailgate, men's basketball practice, and then hopefully an upset in the college ranks as well...Sorry for the thread again everyone. BUT PLEASE, if you can make it tomorrow to Can't at 4pm, ADMISSION IS FREE. Can't is currently ahead of us in women's soccer standings, but has beaten all the teams we have beaten so far... Please come out and support just not the women's soccer program, but AKRON as well...One last time I want to say my apologies for my outburst, and wish everyone a good night...and GO ZIPS!
  9. I'll be at the Akron at Can't State women's soccer match tomorrow, and will be at the women's soccer home game vs Ohio. I will be at most of the Akron women's basketball practices, and will try to make the ones that are open that are men's basketball practices. By the way, I refuse to stand with the Rowdies now. They say they show up to every sport, but I don't see them at women's soccer that could use their support when falling behind...All my other time will go towards high school basketball now.I know a few appreciate my scores, but I'm just running out of time to argue with the others. Got nothing else to say...SO....Later Zipsnation, It's been a fun ride
  10. I'm tired of posting things that normally aren't mentioned here because it's not men's soccer, men's basketball, or football. So when I keep hearing from people "Does anyone care?", I take it seriously, because I CARE. I go to this university, and I feel every sport matters. I want every sport to be a MAC Championship contender, and jsut about every sport is. The problem is that people don't give certain sports, or a certain gender and their sports a chance to see what it is like. I'm tired of hearing people say that this team is far away from winning the MAC Championship in women's soccer. THEY ARE NOT. I still feel they can win the MAC Championship this year. The problem is that they wait to see certain games, and when someone has seen them all season long, and people who haven't try to downgrade those opinions/posters, it just makes me sick to be a part of this fan base. I don't care if I get banned/suspended from ZN.o, because this will probably be my last post on here for a long while. I coach high school basketball, and a lot of my time will be taken up soon. Won't have time to try and give information that the majority of these fans "don't really care" about...So since I'm not "useful" on here, I just don't have time to argue with that opinion. Time to lace up some shoes, and get ready for a high school basketball season!!!! Later Akron fans, just made a Zips fan that goes to just about every sport per year, feel not wanted on this "prestigious" fan message board ...
  11. Should be closer than what people think...But apparently since I'm a generic Akron Zips fan and likes all sports at Akron and get this response a lot, I'm going to say this now:"Does anyone really care?"
  12. I, as an Akron Zips fan care...just saying in case anyone know of any local coaches that are interested in checking this out on saturday. Just figured you wanted to get to know what the women's basketball players' names are so that you can at least ACT like you care when they play Notre Dame to start the season, beat Florida State at home, and win the MAC Championship this year...
  13. Women's basketball is holding a coaches' clinic on saturday. Where the coaches can watch practice from 9-11:30, and then ask Coach Kest and the assistant coaches questions from 11:30-12:00 on the court. I'm sure that the practice is open to more than just coaches to watch...
  14. Check out the splash page when you go to GoZips.com...love the picture!!!!!!!
  15. I think that Coach Porter trusts his assistant coaches to lead the first couple weeks of practices if needed...I'm sure the players wouldn't mind that their head coach is coaching the Olympic team before coming back here to coach them...Embick is a hell of a coach and I am actually surprised he hasn't gone on to be a head coach already.I know. That's why I feel like we're okay here if this does happen. I definitely don't see this as a negative for next season. If anything, I see this as even a bigger recruiting tool for players to come to Akron...
  16. I think that Coach Porter trusts his assistant coaches to lead the first couple weeks of practices if needed...I'm sure the players wouldn't mind that their head coach is coaching the Olympic team before coming back here to coach them...Don't be fooled. At least in most sports, being a couple of weeks behind in beginning to formulate your plans for the season put you at a serious disadvantage. Ever wonder why coaches start practices on practically the first hour of the first day that they are allowed?Of course the players and assitants won't mind.As a current assistant coach in a different sport, of course I do; however, you don't fall behind if the coaches are on the same page as the head coach if the head coach can't be there. When you've built this program up to higher standards like Coach Porter has done since he's been here, I think it will be okay. The coaches know what he wants, and so does the players. Especially since we won't have 16 new players next year, and it will just be a few players, depending who enters the draft with a GA contract...I'm sure we'll be fine next year. Most of the players would have at least one year in the system, and unless we win it all again this year, the players will be hungry and will want to finish it this time around next season.

  18. +1No matter how big of a shafting it was, we still should have wooped Michigan. The crappy field conditions didn't help but STILL shouldn't have been close. Maybe we need to train regularly on a wet field....both of our losses were on games played on wet fields which means we should be out practicing RIGHT NOW...
  19. lol @the section about Toledoyou mean this part?
  20. I don't expect every former Zip in the MLS to get a call-up just because Porter is the coach, or we will be hearing cries of nepotism a la Bob and Michael Bradley (even though him playing for his dad was justified). I would fully expect to see Teal get a call up, probably Kitchen too. Not sure about Zarek, Kofi is kind of a stretch at this point, and I'm not sure what the status is nationality wise on Darlington. The US has a lot of talent in the under-23 age pool. What you have to remember is that some of the guys who play for the senior squad are still under 23, like Jozy Altidore, Juan Agudelo, Timmy Chandler, Freddy Adu, and Brek Shea. Which leads me to the topic of the squad coming to Akron. I don't know how early this team would start training, it may or may not overlap with this college season. Probably depends on how deep of a run we make into the tournament. I do know though, and I can say this as a confident, heterosexual man, that if Brek Shea is anywhere near this city I will camp outside his hotel room to meet him.Oh, and if you're not familiar with how the Olympic team works, it's under 23, BUT you are allowed to have three overage players on your roster. Maybe we will also see Landon Donovan, maybe we will see Clint Dempsey, maybe we will see Tim Howard, maybe I am getting WAY ahead of myself. Not huge national news yet, because it hasn't been confirmed. If you go on twitter and search Caleb Porter, you will see that it is being discussed by multiple individuals in the soccer communityThis certainly is an exciting development for our school, our country, and our fearless leader Caleb Porter! Hope it's trueGuess I'm getting to each Zips march very early just so I can get on Coach Porter's good side and maybe let me watch some of the U-23 practices if this happens and they come to Akron...
  21. That may of been true, but with Walsh, Green, Justice(probably will be redshirted), Gilliam, and could throw Petersen in there for a few minutes, there's a lot of players that can play the 2 guard.
  22. Have you seen this kid shoot? He can definitely be a 2....
  23. Other than a select few tonight, I feel everyone else played bad. But just because we played bad, can't mean we can't be mad about the supposedly offsides call or the shot that looked to go over the line, but a Michigan defender headed it out...Last night was bizarre, but I have a strategic questions:1) Where was Mayer at last night? I feel we need to put Stevenson in the midfield where Holmes was at, and have Holmes come off the bench. Put Mayer at LB and Gallego at LOB. Have Yedlin at his usual ROB and Barson ar RB.I know Coach Porter knows more about soccer than I will ever know even though I've breathed soccer for about 15 years. Just wondering why Stevenson isn't used more in the midfield where we're having trouble at the most. Caldwell hasn't been sharp, and I feel we need another player in the midfield that has some experience from last year, which Stevenson had...
  24. No OS when the ball is last played by a defender. Yedlin toe poked the ball backward towards Meves. Not so sure about that. I was certified as a USSF Grade 7 referee a couple years ago, and that was never mentioned in either the Grade 9 class, or the bridge class for Grade 8 or Grade 7. Basically, we spent a half an hour on offsides, and I wrote down every letter, number, abbreviation, and everything else about offsides they talked about because I didn't want to screw those calls up. I knew there would be a lot fans that wouldn't understand the complexion of offsides. Looking through my notes, I can't find any exception to offsides if the defending team passes it backwards. Can someone please send me a link with that rule. Must be a new rule...From what I've always known, is that if the player that is in the offsides position is in the area of activity on the field, then he's ruled as being offsides. According to this picture, he's certainly in the thick of it...http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-...236699891_n.jpg
  25. Also, I'm losing patience with Mattocks. Not really happy with his decision making in the final third. His footwork is a glaring weakness In my humble opinion...
