  1. If you're not excited for football, my first question would be "do you like football?" When the air gets those first small hints of autumn approaching, my college football passion begins to border on obsession. I love it all. I love the big non-conference tilts like LSU v. Oregon and Boise v. Georgia. I love the non-conference David v. Goliath matchups. I love it when there is a conference game in the 2nd slot on the schedule. I love to see the upsets. I love to watch pre-season favorites fade away and unheralded teams emerge. I love it when the weather turns cooler and we get into the meat of the conference schedules. I love the bitter rivalry games. I hate when the season ends after only 12 games. More specifically, I look forward to Zips football starting again as soon as the last game is over. Last year when they announced the seniors at the Buffalo game, reality hit me. Then they played the video montage of the seniors to the tune of the old Alphaville "Forever Young". That about jerked my tear. Seriously. I didn't want it to end. From that point on, the anticipation builds. There are spikes of excitement for National Signing Day and the spring game. When the rags come out around Memorial Day, I am ready to go, counting the days. I start dusting off the tailgate gear and ponder additions and improvements. I look for any piece of information on the Zips I can find. I've been looking into the mailbox with anticipation wondering if my season tickets are in there, because I can't wait to get back to campus to see my friends again at that first game. Chomping at the bit to see Ohio's Pride taking the field...Z...IP...ESSSSSSSSSSSSS...LET'S GO ZIPS! Everytime I see the big A marching across the field remains a big thrill for me. I realize that there has been a lot of disappointment after the taste of success in 2005, but I remain positive that things things are (hopefully) turning for the better. When they do, I plan on being there. Mark me down in the excited column. Go Zips!
  2. Awesome. We need KD to do these kind of reports for football too.
  3. I would like to hear some different perspectives as well. What we need are open practices so we could get fan reports like we have been getting from the basketball side.
  4. It would be so much fun to hire another coach and start all over again after two years, so that coach can bring in his new players and new system and struggle through his first two years. A good coach wouldn't struggle in his first two years because he would find a way to maximize success with the players that he has on the current roster. A coach that relies on having a very specific type of player (one that never seems to be on the roster he inherits) in order to be successful isn't a good coach, he's just an administrator of a system. We hired the second kind of coach. Next time let's hire someone who is comfortable devising schemes that fit the players he has to work with at least until he can recruit players who fit his style better, and we won't have to sit through years of learning on the job like we are doing now. Slight difference of opinion on the coaching staff. Coaching ranking at bottom. Rivals preview
  5. Sum a y'all need ta get real.
  6. +1Bazillion
  7. It's a shame Jalil Carter didn't get more of a look from the St. Louis Browns.
  8. I haven't been to a BB game since I was a student, but I am really debating purchasing season tickets.
  9. From all of Zach's reports I assumed Icoach was disliked and not respected by the players. It looks as if there is at least one player who likes and/or respects ICoach. A ray of hope?? This will be an interesting year for sure. Where did you read in the article something that said that a player likes or respects the coach? I am sure Benny heard many negative things about Ianello from Seth. Misery loves company.
  10. Testing...1...2 Testing...1...2 I know this probably isn't the place for this, but... Beta tested my dual TV tailgate setup today. How many days until Temple?
  11. What a great opportunity to learn about the program. What a great opportunity WASTED! "We're in helmets, we're going to wear shoulder pads, split squad, maximize..." Save it. B-O-R-I-N-G...Can somebody do there job and get this guy to tell the fans something that gets them excited about the season. Can we hire Emory? He knows how to fire up fans, you know why, because he is fired up. Rob needs to learn how KD excites the fan when someone puts the camera on him. I love listening to KD, I hate listening to Rob. At the minimum, he did say Go Zips?!? It's more of the blah blah blah coachspeak bullshit. If you are going to make the effort to make a statement, make a statement. Just babbling some useless non-information serves no purpose at all. Rob...I want to like you. I want to buy in, but you are making it hard. Throw me a bone, RI!
  12. EM-OR-RY! EM-OR-RY!
  13. I hold this truth to be self-evident.
  14. I think the "new approach" doesn't go any deeper than split practice sessions.
  15. JZ84, thank you for the information on Williamson and Favors. I was watching the video on a crappy phone connection when it got to the news about Hall and I wasn't prepared to take notes when he mentioned the newcomers who were totally unfamiliar names to me. You rock, Johnny!
  16. The latest Ianello video confirms Richard Hall has left the program.
  17. Maybe a better QB would be the best solution to a bad QB situation? Put Luke Getsy at QB for the Zips last season...how many games does he win? With Getsy we win 5. G-W, Can't, Ball State, Miami & Buffalo. If Nicely would have had just a little better efficiency we win the same 5. We were really close in these games and with QB being such an important position, a little better play from your on field leader means a lot. If Getsy played for Buffalo last year, the Zips finish 0-12. But seriously, guys. Now is the time for excitement, anticipation & optimism. The best man for the QB position will emerge and hopefully better production will occur. From number seven or eight.
  18. Hey Emory! Can you put together some video montages for our scoreboard? Nice work. If this vid doesn't get you excited for the season to start, you just don't like football that much. The AJ Price highlights had me smiling. I hope he lives up to his potential.
  19. "Tunnel of Pride." How embarrassing. Their faces should be as red as their jerseys. I decided against purchasing tickets for this game and I am glad. I foresee it being a "Restoring Buckeye Pride™" puke story down there for the first game back post-controversy. I don't need to go into a hostile, defensive atmosphere where the crowd will be foaming at the mouth for a beat down of the Zips so they can somehow feel good about themselves again. Maybe it won't be like that and I hope it isn't for those who are going. I wasn't willing to take the chance.
  20. Speaking of IU, they are going to play UMass next year at Gillette as the first half of a home-and-home. schedule
  21. If Can't wins the east, I"ll streak down exchange street. Now THAT is some incentive to root against the flashes.
  22. You will want to read this preview for a chuckle. pigskin press
  23. The first rankings of MAC 2012 recruiting are up on Rivals. The numbers are quite different than the ones on ESPN. link
  24. Gunner Kiel makes his choice. link
  25. This fall will mark the 25th anniversary of my freshman year when I watched my first Zips game. Even though I am fully aware of our D-IA history, and how I have been excited and let down before, I can't help it. I am getting pumped up again. I want to believe Ianello knows what he is doing, even if the evidence up to this point may say otherwise. I find myself buying into what Rob's selling in this little fireside chat. Am I crazy? Or just a ZIP?
