    Missed it!

I guess Monday's "NFL Live" was a screen test for JT. Too bad we didn't get a heads up he was going to be on. Story
  2. Seriously? This guy has been a recruiter (one of the best mind you) for decades, and you are going to tell him that he doesn't know what he is doing? This is one area where I have all the faith in the world in the guy. He brought in Jawon Chisholm after all the schools picked their guys and he looks to be the stud running back that we have been needing for a long time. Somewhere there is a kid and his dog praying you too are right about Jawon Chisholm. Im just too lazy to find the picture again.
  3. This is a great trip down memory lane. I never had Future Shock, I had the Rockit 12" single, though. I remember the video with the manneqin legs steppin to the music. Billy Soule had that one in rotation on 23 Nite Videos quite often as I remember. Wonder if we will see Billy at the concert? Or would I even recognize him if I saw him, that was 25 years ago. CK, I bet you had some great times in that Citation. Timeless style on that model.
  4. I don't know if he'll play that one, but he better play this one. Rockit

    Missed it!

It may have something to do with not being able to DVR the in-studio guest. R U technologically challenged? I knew I should have picked this up when I got my phone.
  6. I just got done watching College Football Live on my dvr. Just recorded enough of the daily NFL show to see that Jason Taylor was the in-studio guest. Anybody able to catch it? :mad_flame:
  7. Who said last year was all the QB's fault?
  8. I did some more research on how these 7 on 7 drills work. Thankfully, it is not the same rules as 7 man football. On offense: Center, QB, 5 receivers. On defense: linebackers and DBs. All passing. I would think this format would put the Zips at an immediate disadvantage on the offensive side of the ball. How many plays are in the Zips playbook with 5 possible receivers running routes? Not many, I'll bet. I don't know anything about what offense MU runs, but I am going to guess they have a better playbook for this setup. As JZ84 alluded to, this drill definitely does not play to the strength of our team. This is not real football. It is a passing drill. We got beat in a passing drill. It doesn't necessarily mean anything. The elephant in the room here is Patrick Nicely. PN is a returning Junior and needs to take the reins and be the real leader of this team. If he is able. The clock is ticking on Pat. He is being afforded every opportunity to succeed by the coaching staff, but doesn't seem to be taking advantage of that opportunity. When you think back to the games last year, who looked the part of leader on offense? It appeared to me that Alex Allen and Nate Burney played that role. Your starting QB needs to be the leader, IMO, and I have seen precious little of that from PN. I hope he proves me wrong. God, I hope he proves me wrong. But if it is immediately evident when the season starts that PN has not made a big transformation as a player, I would hope the coaching staff makes a quick change (Assuming he will be the starter in Columbus). I don't want to spend another season waiting for some development coming from PN. He has to come out of the gate strong or let's go in another direction. I don't want to trash the kid, but he definitely needs to show us something.
  9. Please tell me that we aren't talking about a exhibition using those AAU rules. If so, it means even less than I originally thought. Also, how in the hell was the score 63-35? Were they kicking extra points? 9-5 sounds more like it. My head is starting to hurt.
  10. Never too early to start talking about a watch party. I haven't been to Manny's yet. Does it have enough room for the myriad of Zip fans? I really like Pints, but it is pretty small. Set it up Johnny Z!
  11. At 3 bucks apiece. I was surprised to see that the highest priced seat in the house was $9.
  12. What has been Moore's level of participation in this?
  13. Thanks for trying, Zach.
  14. Very interesting but also very sad. LINK
  15. Ok, Zach. I am officially curious. I am a dinosaur not plugged into the ways college age kids operate. Zach, do you wish to provide some links to player social media so we can make some judgments about what happened at this exhibition? I am almost afraid to ask. I really might not like what I see. I can tell you this, fellow dinosaurs, there is a Zips player's facebook page I was exposed to that was actually shockingly immature and void of any evidence of leadership. While it was immediately very troubling to me, I guess I ultimately blew it off as generation gap. That was probably my one brush with the mindset of today's player mentality. I was not impressed. If you are actually plugged into the whole social media thing (which I am sure a great majority of ZNOers aren't) perhaps we would be upset too? I don't believe that losing a 7 on 7 is important. Poison attitudes are though. Zach?
  16. Mount Schmount.
  17. Just on talent alone, NASCAR drivers should always win exhibition go kart races held for charity but every once in a while they lose to a kid from the audience. Luckily, exhibition go kart races are as meaningless as 7 on 7 drills.
  18. Rivals has the Zips at 118.
  19. Racer, your wish is my command. Selling autographs is now 100 percent legit in the eyes of NCAA. Now all those "autographs" on national letters of intent are officially for sale to the highest bidder. I'm sure it will be great for intercollegiate athletics.
  20. Who is good with photo shop?
  21. For example, players can now have jobs. Done. Rule changed. Podunk U. booster Billy Bob Whitman can now give top recruits jobs at his place of business. Offensive linemen can make $20,000 a year. Hell some a them quarterbacks, they can make six figures. What kinda work is it? They ain't no work involved son. Come on down and fill out yer W-2 and collect yer paycheck. Same question. Is this ok? Fluff jobs come along in the real world. There are many folks collecting money for nothing, why not college athletes? Anywhere a opportunity for a sleaze exists, it will be exploited.
  22. Another preview. Football Zealot
  23. The reason for NCAA restrictions is to try to curtail abuse. The NCAA does not have a large enough staff to monitor the legitimacy of the transactions that have been discussed. The line has to be drawn somewhere and the NCAA drew it where they thought they could manage the situation. Changing regulations would create more problems than they could handle. For example, players can now sell their property. Done. Rule changed. Recruiter from Podunk U. comes to town talks with prospect, notices bic ball point pen on the coffee table. "Awful nice pen ya got there son" "Thank ya, Sir" "Ya lookin ta sell it?" "Oh I don't know. Why?" "Know a guy back home lookin for one" "Spose I could let it go for the right price" "Lemme give him a call...Hey Billy Bob, found one a them bics you been looking fer. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. I see. OK." CLICK "Says he's still lookin for one. He'll pay a pretty penny for one too. Fifty grand to be exact" "Done! Sell it!" "Oh, he only buys bics that been used to sign letters of intent with Podunk U. Can we do some business?" Is this situation ok? If this is acceptable to everybody, go ahead and change the rule. If not, don't. Because 15 minutes after the rule is changed, these types of conversations are going to be going on all over the country and also, some so bizarre and sleazy we couldn't even imagine. That's why you have to have these restrictive rules, IMO.
  24. My definition of competitive means legitimate shot at winning the ball game. Last year we were competitive in 5 games and that is not good enough. I am considering GW, Can't State, BSU, MU, and UB the 5 "competitive" games. The one in five success ratio is not good enough either. You need to win half of the games you are competitive in to get to wear the "respectable" tag. If things are going in the right direction, you win all these games and steal a game or two that you should have lost. Clearly, the 2010 season was a disaster. It was unacceptable. Volumes have been written about it and the criticism was wholly deserved. Projecting the failures of last year's team onto 2011 team is undeserved. A different roster of players with a different dynamics deserves a chance to get out on the field and prove their worth. If they fail, I feel it is fair game for any Zips fan to comment as they see fit. My opinion. I am entitled to mine. You are most certainly entitled to yours. If the coaching staff doesn't win 4 or more games this year, they are treading on dangerous ground. Winning 3 games got JD fired. Ianello was hired to turn the program around and he used his mulligan last year. If the Zips win 4 games this year with one of those being Can't, I think that is "progress". That being said, they need to display competence on the field. They need to show that things ARE going in the right direction with no embarrassing blowout losses to mediocre teams. Winning 4 games by virtue of our opponent's incompetence ain't a gonna cut it. And Lee, I wasn't taking a pot shot at you. See me for some food and beverages at the Temple game. Go Zips!
