I was listening to Chris Childers on Rivals Radio this morning and he made the comment that he looks for Leach to take over at FAU next year. Maybe it's not too late. He is a polarizing character, but he would create a lot of excitement and the offense would be fun to watch. I know. I'm dreaming. Leach may become a Lobo. It makes sense. He knows the area. Do you think he could step in and turn them around in year one? The Lobos are a dumpster fire. If I was a fan of that program, I would be on my knees nightly praying for Leach come to town. I am guessing there is probably a pretty sizable Mormon population in NM as well, which would be another possible draw. I would love to see him back on the sidelines.

Skip, you are so right about this year's non-conference schedule being a lot tougher than last. Hopefully these early struggles will pay off in the MAC portion of the schedule. It appears that most of the rest of the MAC has gotten better from last year, but I would hope, AT LEAST, to see the Zips contend for wins against EMU, CMU & Can't.

Thanks to Dr.Z for letting me taste his dopplebock. It was my best beer of the day too. The one beer that I brought that I will tell everyone to definitely avoid is Intercourse Blue Ball Porter. It is not good at all. Also, Captain hooked me up with a bacon wrapped scallop that was out of this world. The weather was great Saturday and I had a great time meeting and talking to all the ZN.Oers. Really looking forward to the 8th. Hopefully, Cornbread won't have to work!

Super-conference discussion (Akron specific)

So Syracuse and Pitt joining the ACC were solely football driven? I don't believe that for one second. If it were solely football driven, WVU wouldnt have been denied by the SEC and ACC.WVU was denied by the ACC because of academics, the same reason why the Big Ten isn't interested. I don't think the SEC rejection was ever confirmed was it? I think that is still up in the air. SEC #14 that is. I think the ACC made the move as an insurance move because they ars afraid the SEC is going to raid them. WVU could still be in play for SEC membership, but there are probably 3 or 4 ACC schools they would rather have.I don't think that Cuse and Pitt were taken for basketball considerations. Both are historic football powers and their inclusion in the ACC opens up recruiting a little more in those 2 states. So yeah, I still think its all about football, but I could be totally wrong too. -
Why do you say that? What ignorance is showing in this thread? I expected to see OSU/UM. It's billed as "The Game". I expected to see UT/OU. I mean after all, Texas is the 800 pound gorilla in the state with the 2nd largest population. I sure as hell didn't expect to see Oregon/Arizona in there. I knew the SEC was popular, but I thought there would be some other conferences represented. I figured OSU/Wisky would be a potential top tenner. But I guess that shows his little I know about CFB. I am sure you could rattle off the list before you even saw it.

Super-conference discussion (Akron specific)

All this realignment is solely football driven. None of the other sports impact realignment one iota. The other sports are merely passengers. That is why Kansas is chewing their nails. -
Where's Texas/Oklahoma?

Boooooooooooo.

I heard them discussing this on Finebaum today. For all the talk of the importance of "market" and "footprint" in the conference expansion drama, the top 10 rated games from 2010 sure don't seem to support the argument. Taking a look at the 10 most watched games of 2010 is real food for thought. Also brought up on the program was the marquee rivalry games that did not make the list. Before you click on the link, think about what games you would expect to see on the list. I bet you will be surprised. 2011 CFB TV Ratings

Well you do have the spread correct. I've always been a little different.

The PAC-12 had an opportunity to (arguably) create a conference to challenge SEC supremacy. They could have been the first conference to 16. They could have created the best divisions in CFB, with the old PAC-8 on one side (Cal, USC, UCLA, Stanford, Oregon, OSU, Washington, WSU) and all the "expansion teams" on the other (Arizona, ASU, Utah, Colorado, Oklahoma, OSU, Texas, TTU). The potential battles to win the divisions would be fantastic and the championship game matchups could be monumental. However when the PAC powers that be sat down and laid it all out on the table, all the positives could not overcome the one snag in the deal...putting up with Texas' arrogance and bullshit. -
I think the Zips offense finally gets going, 34-20 Zips.

See, I told you so. I was right. I knew this guy was a bad hire. Shoulda listened to Tressel. Shoulda hired Fickell. I was right. Told ya so. The Zips suck. I was right. Zips are going to go 0-12. Told you so. I was right. See, see? Listen to me. Listen to me. Give me attention. I want attention! Iiiiiiiiiiii waaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssss riiiiiiiiigggghhhhhtttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Right??? Right??? Right??? I thought politics were verbotin!!!! You are from Ashland...we know you are right Doug,That is just a stereotype that you are helping to perpetuate. I'll have you know that there are 37 registered Democrats in Ashland County.

Did you see that FIU got some votes in the coaches poll? Pretty impressive.

One of the most unfortunate things about the Zips disastrous season is that we haven't taken the time to stop and smell the roses. We have been too preoccupied with our own woes to even mention that Can't is 0-3, outscored 105-19 with Ohio and Northern Illinois next on their schedule. Hope that puts a little spring in some of y'all's step.

I would be very surprised to see Oklahoma and Oklahoma State part ways in any realignment scenario. I think they are a package deal and will go PAC with UT and TTU. -
Bobby, I went back and read your original post again. You make reference to those Zips fans who can't see the Titanic is sinking and will never admit it. I am afraid I don't know any Zips fans of this category.Don't mistake those (including myself) who spoke out against the wholesale piling on of RI as being "Ianello Backers". The vitriol against the man was beyond ridiculous and had degraded into personal attacks. Many of us just wanted to enjoy the "season of optimism" that most fans engage in before the season starts. Most fans don't want to dwell on the failures of the previous season for the umpteen millionth time as they look forward to the new season. Many fans (again, including myself) were willing to give RI the benefit of the doubt. Benefit of the doubt. A favorable judgment granted in the absence of full evidence. Well, the negative evidence has been pretty overwhelming in circumstances that demanded the exact opposite. The Zips needed to come out versus OSU and clearly display they had improved in many areas. They did not and have appeared to only tread water against Temple and then take a huge step back today. Just a few small signs to show we are on the right track would have been enough to keep me on the B.O.T.D. train. But there weren't any. From the opening kickoff that went out of bounds to the last snap, there weren't any. Yes, 100 yard receiver. Yes, 100 yard rusher. But not one shred of evidence that ANYTHING is going in the right direction.Watching the Zips this season is like watching the 1976 Tampa Bay Buccaneers. All that being said, I still hope the Zips prove me wrong and show me they ARE on the right track. I will be tailgating, adding to the beer list, and hoping for a Zips victory. Hmmmmm. Maybe I am an "Ianello Backer".
-
Our team has shown me NOTHING this year. I don't care how bad they are, we are horrible and better be ready for this game. You're preaching to the choir. I certainly wasn't suggesting that VMI would be a cakewalk. I watched the Zips lose to a bad FCS opponent last year.
-
BTW, VMI is 0-3 on the year, losing to Delaware State, William & Mary and Richmond.
