Interesting reply: Please....time to downsize! You guys all think UB should brand itself, try to become the flagship university of New York, ala Ohio State or Penn State. But this just shows what UB really is—-small potatoes that nobody in WNY really cares about. You can’t bring a knife to a gunfight. It’s simple. Drop to FCS for football—-or maybe even drop football, join the Horizon League and take it from there. Not every school can be a North Carolina, a Michigan or a Notre Dame. Even Syracuse struggles to be viable. Buffalo is proving that they can’t cut the mustard. What is Buffalo’s plan now? Take the money from the cut sports and dump into a semi-morbid football program? I've had this same thing on my mind, LZ. I just have to wonder if KD is salty because a contingent of fans did not appreciate the 21 wins or the trips to the MAC tournament CG or whatever fill-in-the-blank success he accomplished while here. Putting myself in his shoes it would be disheartening to hear complaints about not being able to take the next step. It had to be a heartache. On the other hand, I think you really have to put on your big boy pants if you want to be a D1 coach, but when someone gives you seven million reasons to forsake an unappreciative fanbase it's not surprising. I think we all feel a little betrayed because KD played the Akron for Life card but it turned out to be just words. I appreciate what he did for this program, but I don't feel especially warm and fuzzy about wishing him luck in Pittsburgh. Maybe in time I will feel differently but right now I'm a little sore.

OSU is an 800 pound gorilla. There may be some fiscally responsible politicians who may want to trim spending at the flagship university for the sake of being fiscally responsible, but it damn sure doesn't have anything to do with leveling the playing field for athletics.

Skip, Skip, Skip. . . I love football too, but c'mon. This was the 2nd bowl Akron had ever made in its FBS history. A terrible program had just gotten out of the worst hole (3-33) of its sad history. Of course people were excited to show up at a bar and watch. It also probably didn't hurt that it was on December 22. People were already out shopping. The Potato Bowl wasn't a whole lot different than the Go Daddy Bowl that the MAC Champ BG Falcons went to. The disparity in bowls between the top of the MAC and an also-ran isn't much, whereas the difference between the basketball tournaments is huge. But other than the NY6 games, they are all NIT, CBI, CIT. They totally don't matter to anyone other than the players, the players' parents and football fanatics. There just happens to be a lot more football fanatics than basketball fanatics. I mean, my goodness. I watched NM/UTSA in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl and loved it. Great game. On the other hand, once the Zips are done playing basketball, I am done watching basketball. I appreciate your passion for Zips football, though.

Don't you think he bought the worst house on a good street in an upper middle class neighborhood and is leaving one of the nicest houses in a lower middle class neighborhood? The A-10 isn't what it used to be since Temple, Xavier & Butler left. It is interesting to me to hear people questioning KD's departure because of the difficulty in winning at Duquesne in that conference and then read that what Akron needs to do is to get into a conference like the A-10. News flash, everybody. . .Duquesne can win in that conference a helluva lot easier than Akron could ever win in that conference. A cash-poor public school that plays FBS football is never going to have the money to compete at that level. Never. We are broke. The level of discontent with the MAC has reached a level of self-loathing with some folks. The only hope Akron ever has of leaving the MAC is if football would get good enough to actually get to the top of this conference, stay there for about 10 years and develop somewhat of a following. Then your prize is maybe getting an invite to CUSA.
