Ding ding ding. Those two plays in Knoxville were probably the loudest I've ever cheered for.
-
Good picks, guys. Believe it or not, every player named so far was on my original list that I pared down to 10. There are a few more on my larger list that I will be looking forward to see if anyone mentions. A couple of guys merited consideration from me for one play. One really exciting play.

I was hoping to get back on here before anyone posted their list, but no dice. I am on the same wavelength as LZ and SZ for a few of these guys. Mine are not in order other than saving the best for last. Cody Grice This kid was Akron to the bone. Great leadership from a player with a lot of toughness and charisma. His short yardage running got the crowd on its feet and he will be remembered forever for the 4th quarter pump up video. Dalton Williams He gave us a lot to root for when there wasn't a lot to root for. If we only had a defense that could stop air, he would have attained legendary status as the guy who led a great turnaround. It is a crying shame he only won one game. Marquelo Suel Another guy to cheer for in the dark and dismal days. He caught damn near everything that touched his hands. Too bad we only had him for 2 years. What a great player. Jarrod Pughsley Tough as nails and was a stalwart at left tackle. He gets extra bonus points from me for his pitcher chug before a Zips game at the MAC Basketball Tournament. Austin Bailey Now hear me out. . .This kid had 3 rushes for 20 yards in his career as a Zip but as a Senior, hungry for some playing time, he got down and dirty on the defensive line. This ultimate team player gave his teammates on that line some much needed rest and I admire that so much. Nordly Capi I got to attend a fair number of practices while Nordly was here. What a character. His sense of humor was a breath of fresh air and he could flat get up the field to pressure the QB. I will always remember him clutching the Wagon Wheel after the win. Travis Switzer 39 steady starts at center; 36 in a row. Kid was a stud. Zach Paul Several wins would not have happened if it were not for this guy's clutch punting. Pitt comes to mind immediately, but there were several other games where the argument could be made that Zach was worthy of MVP. Jojo Natson The most electrifying player in a decade. Sacrificed his body on numerous occasions to make a grab. If he had only come down with the ball versus Ohio. . . Jatavis Brown JB1 will be on everyone's list because he is the most deserving. No Zip ever identified the target and got there faster with bad intentions. Not only a terror on the field, but in the weight room as well. Holding the bench press record is a testament to his hard work and he has been such a great ambassador for our alma mater. Thanks for playing, guys.

I got bit by the football bug last week watching the pieces of video that were posted and got my mind to thinking. Give me your top 10 players since Bowden has been here. Doesn't need to be a Bowden recruit. Doesn't matter if he was a one and done. Doesn't even need to backed up with statistics. It is your opinion. Beginning with the 2012 season through this current year, who makes your top 10 list? There are a couple of givens that will probably be on everyone's list, but it will be fun to talk about our choices. I am putting a list together now and I will be back to post mine when it's complete.

Mega respect to those three guys for coming back to Akron. Makes ya proud doesn't it?
-
You know, I am gonna blow this thread up. Real Zips fans can't go to practice and observe and report but George Thomas can. The name Darryl Monroe doesn't even ring a bell. #amateurhour

LZ, do you think JN or SP will get a shot as UDFA?
-
Not sure, B&G. I had to look up 81 on the roster to see who it was.
-
When his shot was working he'd make me jump off the wooden JAR bleachers and he seemed like a really good kid. I wish him nothing but the best.

This gets me in the mood for some football. I see nice plays on there from Jamal Davis, Manny Morgan, Warren Ball and Brandon Mitchell. What did the rest of you see that I didn't?

Which Zips QB will start the most games in 2017?

I am glad you like them. Here is one I am particularly fond of myself: -

LZ, I was able to have a couple of beers and talk to JZ84 before some basketball games. I sure do miss reading his posts. Speaking of former posters, I had opportunity to speak with DiG at the Corner Alley before Friday's game. He is doing fine. -

I'm 48. Sarcasm is one of the only things that still works right. -

I don't have any. The only insight I ever had was what my eyes and ears told me. I am glad to give an opinion when I have one but I don't here. To answer the original poster's question, I have no basis to go on other than a hunch. I do not know the seriousness of Woodson's condition nor do I know where his head is. I would be glad to speak about what I think about Kato if I knew anything. I don't. I know as much about him as everyone else does. I watched his high school highlight reel. I was very happy to attend practice whenever I could and make observations and give my take to ZN.o. So was Zipgrad01. So was Zips_win! So was JohnnyZip84. In 2015, practices were closed, ostensibly to keep the lid on the read one and run offense that we we going to unleash on an unsuspecting Oklahoma Sooner squad and bring back the victory from Norman. The observing and reporting was left up to George Thomas to let everyone know how the roster was competing. I made my feelings about this development clear when it happened. Shutting out real fans of the program was not a wise decision in my estimation, but no one asked me what I thought. I think your point about Chapman is a good one and it makes predicting the qb situation difficult. The staff pushed all their chips into the middle of the table for him and by what all of our collective eyes saw from him on the field make this decision a real head scratcher. Who knows what might happen. -
I attend the weekday games even though they totally blow. On a Saturday gameday, I get to the parking lot at 8 in the morning and get my tailgate on. The actual game takes a lesser amount of time than the pregame. I like it that way. I like to blow an entire day on Zips football and have a good time doing it. I like tailgating so much that I have actually taken 2 days of vacation to be able to do it on these abhorrent weekday games. One day to tailgate and the next just because driving an hour home to unload the vehicle at 1 a.m. just doesn't cut it when you need to get up for work at 6 and actually be worth a crap the next day. Last year, I just came up after work, watched the game and went home. Yes, on my way home I asked myself "Why didn't you just stay home and watch on TV?" because as GP1 so delicately put it weekday games are like putting your balls in a vise for 3 hours. I care enough to be there. I have only missed 3 games at Infocision and those 3 games were not missed by my decision. They were missed because of incontestable obligations. I think I have earned my right to opine that the weekday games are absolutely awful. Anyone is certainly welcome to disagree with me, but if you do, could you please tell me which of the weekday games that you attended over the last 8 years were ones that you went home feeling good afterward.

There were options, though. Scar already done told ya that he wouldn't have built that stadium. Maybe the U should have gone the UMass/Temple route and played home games at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Maybe we should have dropped football altogether. Maybe we should have merged with Kent. Maybe we should all just stop bitching. Nah.

So they can pack the Wolstein Center! Duh!

2018 Commit Akron East DT Ramon Fields

What do you suppose the comparison would be between East & New Philadelphia in terms of number of cans of Copenhagen purchased? -

Glenville's heyday was prior to 2010. They ain't what they used to be. Last signing class had 2 kids going to FBS and 2016 had exactly 0 kids going FBS. I don't care to dig any deeper because I really don't give a toss. Troy Smith, Ted Ginn, Donte Whitner and "we ain't come to play school" are the only kids I can even name from Glenville and I'm not a Buckeyes fan so I am probably not as impressed as some others are with the Tarblooders. -
I hope to see some more of that this fall.

I want to know what you've got against country bumpkins, Mr. ZG01. -
The phobia of an AD making an absolutely awful head coaching hire needs a name. Should it be call Wistrcill or Ianello Syndrome?

I remember mid-way through his freshman year, a friend of mine told me that Keith thought BD had MAC MVP potential.

If you line across from this kid and don't fire out low, he will drive you to Stark County. Damn.
