Whoa now, hold up for a second there. You know and I know that if you are running the Air Raid the TE isn't going to get much use. That's because in the Air Raid there aren't any on the field. Hell, Washington State and Texas Tech don't even have a TE on the roster. I don't think you can really say we are running the Air Raid anymore. We are trying to run some variation of the Baylor offense and don't have the personnel to run it. When Dalton Williams was here in 2012 we didn't see any TE's on the field and now we have a TE on the field for half of the plays we run. Most of the time, they never even run a route. They are just there to be an extra blocker. That's why I knew when everyone was going ga-ga over MTB switching to TE and winning his award and all that jazz that happened in summer camp and how great it was going to be was nothing a bunch of malarkey. We had a bonafide stud of a TE here in 2015 that didn't do diddly-squat for crying out loud. Using MTB in short yardage was great. I applaud the staff for utilizing him in that manner, but to say that his success in that role means that we utilize the TE position well is like applauding Cody Grice's DT play because he got a lot of first downs.

C'mon. You know he scored most of his points as wildcat qb.

2017 Commit: Alex Ramart, QB, Foster HS (Texas)
K92 replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Alex Ramart is certainly entitled to his opinions. I may not agree with some of the things he said in his Hustle Belt interview, but that's ok. I am impressed by his film and I am glad he is coming to Akron. However, the quote about the supportive fan base was the biggest head scratcher for me because, well. . .actual reality? What is interesting is that A-Zip comes back out of the woodwork to take a swipe at ZG01 for stating his opinions. The same A-Zip who started a thread on August 29, 2014 entitled 9100 attendance. The initial post in the thread? A-Zip also opined on the very first page of that thread, which by the way, now spans 29 pages: -
I am not going to sit here and listen to you guys trash the committee without speaking up. Condoleezza has done a great job.

I am against the G5 having their own playoff because it makes no sense. It's that syndrome of today where everyone wants a trophy even if it doesn't mean squat and a G5 trophy wouldn't mean squat. The argument being made is that the G5 schools have no chance of EVER winning a NC in football. This is true. Neither do the majority of P5 schools. No chance. The difference is they do have access to the playoff by virtue of their conference affiliation, but they have a snowball's chance in Hell of ever winning it. Just for shits and giggles, I went back through the last 50 years of National Champs. Some of these are disputed or split, which I noted with an S. Take a look and see if you see what I see. Alabama-15, 12, 11, 09, '92, 79, 78 (S), 73 (S) Ohio State-14, 02, 70 (S), 68 Florida State-13, 99, 93 Auburn-10 Florida-08, 06, 96 LSU-07, 03 Texas-05, 70 (S), 69 USC-04, 78 (S), 74 (S), 72, 67 Miami-'01, 91 (S), 89, 87, 83 Oklahoma-00, 85, 75, 74 (S) Tennessee-98 Nebraska-97 (S), 95, 94, 71, 70 (S) Michigan-97 (S) Washington-91 (S) Ga. Tech-90 (S) Colorado-90 (S) Notre Dame-88, 77, 73 (S), 66 (S) Penn State-86, 82 BYU-84 Clemson-81 Georgia-80 Pitt-76 Michigan State-66 (S) Forgive me for any mistakes. Looks like a pretty exclusive club. Who do you think has a legitimate shot at winning a NC that is not on the list? There are certainly a couple on the list that never will win it again. This is the reason I don't get too upset about Akron having no path to the NC. We are in the same boat as the majority of the P5 but we just get a lot less of the money pie than they do to be cannon fodder for the Blue Bloods. Apologies for the long winded post.

He should definitely come to Akron because a short trip to Holmes county would probably feel somewhat like home.

Hey Joe Akron, do you drink Pabst Blue Ribbon?

This has been a topic of conversation before. I agree that there have been some very questionable calls on offense and that there were times when a first down was much more valuable than trying to score in one play. We on many occasions were down & distance dumb. The reason why that is so important (in my mind) has nothing to do with the defense though. The best way the offense can help the defense is to score. All offensive play-calling should be predicated on extending drives by moving the chains to eventually result in a touchdown. The defense getting a rest should never enter into the calculus of what an offense does. If the defense gives up a long drive for a touchdown and the Zips score on the first play from scrimmage on their next possession, that is not a bad thing because the defense is going back out onto the field. It is a good thing that we scored.

These moves are happening because the freaking out about QB depth was warranted. Hopefully these guys who are coming in can play and aren't Lone Ranger 1.1 & 1.2

The G5 schools serve a purpose to the P5 programs. Because G5 schools are so hard up for money, payday games have been an accepted payback for being relegated to a second class status by the power structure. The G5 conferences need to band together and present a list of demands that need to be met or else. The else is that the G5 conferences will ban their schools from scheduling any more games with the power schools. The approximately 100 wins that the P5 enjoys over the G5 would dry up and could not be ignored. It would have a huge effect on the bowl situation at the end of the year, to name just one outcome. The G5 needs to stop whoring itself out. The million dollar ATM games don't balance the books for most G5 programs, so it's not like it's a make-or-break scenario if they went away. We need to see a lot more compensation coming our direction to remain being the P5 whipping boys.

You would be correct! There are some other common sense money saving solutions though. You just sounded irritated and I wanted to spread some holiday cheer. I hope everyone has a great Christmas.

I think the state legislatures really need to step up and eliminate some of the redundancies in the state schools' curriculuae. There is no need for BG, Toledo, Kent, Akron, Ohio, Miami, Cincinnati and OSU to offer so many duplicated majors. That itself, would be a big fiscal win.

Nice post, LA. I think there are some on this board that think Bowden can still get the team to MAC East Championship level. It's time to put up or shut up though. 14-0? That's never going to happen. As far as the financial situation the G5 schools have gotten themselves into. . . It's a mess. Millions of dollars being spent on programs that most of the students and alumni do not give a tinker's damn about. There are a few exceptions but for the most part I think most mid-majors are in the same boat as Akron. There needed to be some sensible thinking on these athletic budgets years ago but that did not materialize. If it was up to a vote of the students that attend these mid-majors to continue to subsidize these programs through the money that they borrowing to go to school, they would be mothballed immediately. You and I and the other folks on this forum represent a very small minority that care about the University in any manner, nevermind athletics. It makes me very sad because I love the place and I wish everyone could feel the same warm feeling I have toward the institution.
