I will say that Western Michigan is much more enjoyable team since that Skidmark center doesn't play for them anymore.
-
I'm convinced this team does not practice the layup...awful shooting yet again
-
Think about how much our defense improved under Amato. We went from losing 11 to games in 2011, to only losing 11 games in 2012.
-
Zips will struggle out of the gate if the terrible shooting continues. WMU win by 5.

High-end FCS in football
oxymoron

has Can't hired a new HC yet?
Paul Haynes, DC from Arkansas and former OSU assistant. Looks like a clone of Darrell Hazell and is a hire that kind of worries me. Mainly because he is a Can't grad that will most likely be sticking around for a long time.

Lynch looked like a giant freight train in the MAC. Tonight the FSU linebackers are matching his speed and then some, and throwing him around like a rag doll when they get a hold of him. That SEC speed and power are damned impressive.
Florida State is in the ACC not SEC. It's not that he can't run, it's that 95% of the runs have been predictable right up the middle. Not to mention his passing game has be terrible. I don't think they have much of a chance, but still need to try some more passing and option runs.
-
The MAC is crap, there is no secret there. BUT the Big East is going after big markets. It's no coincidence the new teams are located in Philadelphia, Houston, Dallas, Orlando, Memphis, etc. The only reason Akron would have a chance is because of facilities and the Akron-Cleveland market. It's never going to happen, but no other MAC schools have the same combination to offer.

Zeke is the most overrated player in the country
-
After tonight's game, I am so glad I used the keyword "yet" in my previous post. I was absolutely amazed watching tree's ability to handle the ball and dribble smoothly and slash to the basket. All what he needs is a consistent jumper and maybe in a couple of years tree will have the skills to play the 3 in the NBA.
Tree played well to start the game tonight, but seemed to fade away. My biggest hope is that he can become a more consistent double digit scorer and potentially the same in rebounding. While it's okay to have balanced scoring I think we need a "go-to" scorer. I think it can be him.
-
Well this is a surprise, do not expect to lose this game...
-
Zips need to step up the defense now! We are playing okay on offense, but need to make stops.
-
Why the early start time on a Sunday? Wouldn't 10 p.m. have been better?

At least people can't use the Browns as an excuse to miss this game.
-
I get the whole "diamond in the rough" thinking, but isn't that how all Akron teams function? How well has that worked in football?
Only focusing on basketball, our team is obviously better and I'd expect to get a diamond every now and then. But to claim all five of these guys that way is a bit extreme. I just don't see it, but I hope I'm wrong.
-
I honesty don't really get all the excitement over this class. Out of all 5 players, only one offer from a "Big" school? All the rest had offers from MAC, A10, or below conferences. I've accepted the fact that we won't see another Zeke, ever. But I feel like people are greatly overrating these guys.

I fully believe Northeast Ohio has enough sports to have it's own channel. But I expect Fox Sports to move all Indians games to FSO and be done with it. STO was really just a channel made for the Indians and functioned out of the WKYC studios. From what I understand most of the employees have other jobs outside of STO, and just work there part-time. During most of the Indians offseason I don't think I ever watch the channel unless the Zips are on. But if I had my choice I would love a channel that focused on Indians, Cavs, Browns, Gladiators, Monsters, Vikings, Zips, and MAC tournament. Leaving FSO the Reds, Crew, Bluejackets, Xavier, Bearcats, etc. Not many people in NE Ohio care about the teams down south (except Buckeyes) and the south doesn't care about the teams up north. Combining the channels will just cause too many programming conflicts and I doubt we such much of the Zips anymore. Before STO I don't think I ever saw Akron play unless it was the Can't game. Maybe UA can strike a deal with FSO, but I doubt it.

I know a lot of people were ripping on Can't for their 600 crowd, but man it looks like we have about 100 people at the JAR tonight!

Even after 8 pages of being proven wrong you don't give up. You're ready to give up on Akron's football program so easily, why not give up on this argument? Stop calling yourselves fans, and go watch Mount Union if you want irrelevant football.
-
If you haven't heard or seen the media coverage regarding Mount Union's perenial D-3 National Championships
then you are either off the grid or not living in the region or using its media outlets. Most locals think MU would kick the crap out of Akron!
I love college football, but without Akron in one of the bowl games, the only one I care about is the National Championship. All the others are nothing more than exhibition games.
I honestly am not from Ohio and didn't even hear about Mount Union until I started going to school at UA, and haven't heard of them since I graduated. Probably the same reason I don't care about rivalries with Can't or OhioU. I get much more excitement out of games against Tennessee, Ok State, Penn State, etc. That's the main reason I've always wanted out of the MAC. It's a regional conference that is way too much like the lower divisions.
-
Help with what? The Indians? Is that what we are paying him $200k a year to do?
Maybe the guy hasn't done much for UA, but you have no right to criticize a guy for what he does in his FREE time. Do you spend 24/7 at your place of employment?
Same people who were criticizing Tree and Harney because they were tweeting about playing Halo, when idiots say "Well good thing they aren't practicing!"

While I don't advocate a drop to D-1AA (yet), this analysis is well-thought and accurate. NIU was super lucky to get a BCS game this year, and it has NEVER happened before for a MAC school. For those of you dreaming of Akron football in such a game, go buy a lottery ticket instead. Also, to anyone who thinks Akron is going to be the next Boise St. in football, the next VCU in basketball, AND remain a powerhouse in soccer is out of their minds. No other non-BCS school has even achieved two of those three...consider, how is Boise St. in basketball? What is VCU's football program like? Neither of those schools have OSU, Florida, UCLA, Texas, or any other D-1A powerhouse in their backyard like we do.
Things are changing at the D1-A level, and if we aren't proactive, we are going to be relegated to whatever is left, which will undoubtedly be inferior. In this regard, I agree with all GP1 has said on the topic.
How do you explain schools like Cincinnati and Louisville? There's no reason Akron cannot equal the success of these schools. If things are changing at the FBS level then Akron should follow in the footsteps of the UCF, Houston, and Cincy-type schools. Even if it is so unlikely that a school like NIU makes a BCS game, isn't that better than NEVER getting a chance to play in a meaningful game? Ask a casual fan who won the FCS championship last year, see how many people care. I've seen more people talking about the freaking Little Ceasars Pizza Bowl tonight than I have EVER heard about a lower-division championship.
-
I agree with you. But all D1 teams are currently, and will be eligible to play in the BCS national title as well, even though the odds are stacked against them.
I'm sure you meant all FBS teams are eligible for the BCS National Title. FCS teams are not allowed even if they are still technically considered D1. This is why that level is irrelevant.
-
So the Aeros are quitters because they play in AA...

A more fitting analogy would be saying that you want the Cleveland Indians to drop down to AA since they had a few bad seasons. Small market baseball teams have the same disadvantage as mid majors do in college sports. Yet every year there are a handful of small teams/schools that make some noise. Would you suggest moving a team like the Indians, Pirates, or Twins down to the minor leagues.
-
Akron's football team is more likely to make a BCS game, than our basketball team is at making the Final Four. Yet, I don't hear anyone suggesting they drop to D2. So some people are claiming there will still be football. Really? How is there football if the games don't mean anything? You might as well go watch a freaking intramural flag football game at Buchtel Field. Why...it's still football!!!! To give up on the program entirely is embarrassing. Don't even call yourselves Akron fans if you support quitting, I sure bet Bowden and the Zips believe in quitting. Just stay home next season...

I believe they have called a foul on EVERY possession. Let them play!
