  1. If soccer was unranked, 2-6 in MAC Championships and 0-2 in the NCAA I'm sure attendance/interest would be very low.

But to me basketball and even football will always be more exciting games to attend. I played soccer in high school, but honestly I just don't find it all that exciting anymore.

  2. Students have been treated with more respect at soccer events. There's an entire section devoted to students for soccer games. The soccer coach comes over to thank the students. He goes around campus asking them to come to games. He makes you care about the program.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't there an entire thread bitching because they encouraged students, not sitting behind the hoop, to sit in section 11 last game?

  3. I think the marketing department should set up a table inside the Union to give away "free" tickets to the game with a zip card. Yes, I know its already free but many students I talk to still don't understand that concept. With the ticket they can actually walk through the main gates (solves some griping here), and if they don't come, I'm sure it can still count towards attendance as tickets sold or whatever that loophole is.

Honesty if students don't understand what free means, then they should not have graduated high school. I don't see how the athletic department would benefit from having it's employees sit in the union all day handing out pointless tickets to an event that is already free. Just more work than it's worth, and students have their own entrance for a reason.

It's getting a little irritating that everything is being blamed on our marketing people. Our marketing department didn't lose to Coastal Carolina and Oklahoma State. Our Marketing department didn't schedule MTSU, on a sunday when the Browns play. We may have a talented team, but they haven't proved anything yet. Beating ranked opponents does that. Winning streaks do that.

  4. the fact is MTSU could have been undefeated and nationally ranked and attendance would have been the same. To the average Zips fan hearing "Middle Tennessee State" doesn't do much to excite. They are not a "name" opponent, and they aren't even a conference opponent like Can't or Ohio that is recognizable. It just doesn't hold much weight, just like an big-time school probably doesn't think twice when they hear their team is playing Akron.

Other factors that affect attendance negatively.

    - Losses to teams like Coastal Carolina

    - 3-2 record

    - Sunday, with a Browns game later

    - early in the season

  5. Again, there is no basketball strategy that calls for making an opponent "EARN" 3 points by fouling him IN THE ACT of shooting a 3-point jumper when you have a 3 point lead late in the game.

Think back to all the times that Akron has lost on late 3 point shot against Miami, Can't, etc. Looking back would you rather had the Zips foul and at least have the chance of them missing one? History has shown our opponents will make that shot every time. If the Zips are up 4 or more points I say let them shoot. But at 3 points, foul. Of course ideally it would have been better to foul earlier to force 2 shots instead. To me the biggest concern is MAKE SURE they miss the shot. Nothing would have been worse than a 4 point play.

  6. The talking heads are whining left and right about it. Its all about poor Oklahoma being left out and no one is saying a word about NIU qualifying under the rules the BCS set up. Because Louisville and Wisconsin are so deserving. Would love to see them knock off Florida State.

If somehow NIU is able to upset Florida State it has to go down as the biggest BCS upset of all time.

MAC school, ranked 16th and without a coach?

  7. BTW that foul on the three point shot at the end might not have been a bad call....

In the sense that if the foul prevented the shot from having a chance to go in, the shooter than needs to make three out of three. Now I know that guy is a really good foul shooter, but no one shoots 100%.

In a way it could be playing the odds.

If the shot drops, then it is deadly.

I agree. The way I see it he most likely would have made the 3 anyway, at least fouling made him earn it. MTSU may not be the best 3 point shooting team, but against the Zips in that scenario luck has never been on our side.
