Michigan's Coach Burns resigns
yazan07 replied to Crew8's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I don't know how much he makes, but I sure hope no one tries snatching him from us. At this point, he might be the most important associate head coach in the country. The Olympic gig seemed to work out perfectly for Porter because it won't interfere with this season or next season, but in between now and then, I think a lot of duties of the head coach are going to be relegated to Jared and the other assistants. We still have Spring season, and although it may not be extremely important, it shouldn't be written off as no big deal. Also, Porter will probably not be able to be as hands on with recruiting in the off season. We need this team of assistant coaches now more than ever. -
2011 Victory Chant Video Collection
yazan07 replied to bobbyake's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Ugh thank you for reminding me about one of the worst parts of the Charlotte game. After they won they did the 'I believe' chant. It was like torture. -
Welcome to NE Ohio. Are you new here? We haven't had anything good happen for us since 1964, it's not changing anytime soon. Dumbest statement of the year?? 2005 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 There's plenty more. do you as Zips fans enjoy this "IN YOUR FACE" attitude that OSU fans are taking with the whole Urban Meyer hiring. Do you enjoy hearing about how bad we are? When someone continues to joke and trash our school what is your argument? "well we have a decent soccer team" Do you think anyone buys that argument? Do you think the rest of the country even cares? Aside from a 30 second highlight of that game on SportsCenter, how much National Attention did it get us? I don't mean Fox Soccer channel crap. I mean actual media outside the soccer world? Do you think anyone cares that we made it to the tournament twice? and in both years we barely made it and lost in the first round? Zippy won mascot of the year, but do you realize he hasn't even been in the running since? Not to mention it's a made up award, that is decided by internet votes? So please explain to me how I should be happy about our football team having 2 wins in the past two years, having a mediocre basketball team that plays in a dump of an arena, and being good at soccer? I'm sorry but my Zips are nothing to be proud of. I will wear my Zips gear everyday and get laughed at, but I will always stick behind them. I just don't have any faith that our school will be able to turn things around, and if you do I'm sorry you will just end up being disappointed. I'd say having your coach selected to lead a national team to the Olympics is national attention. Oh wait, according to you, soccer isn't a sport anyone cares about. I wouldn't call our basketball team mediocre either, not by a long shot. I don't know how you can say the Zips are nothing to be proud of. If you aren't proud of them, don't call them your Zips. They are our Zips, because we are proud of them. Please exchange your Zips gear for OSU gear, you seem to be unsatisfied with anything if it isn't the absolute best (unless it's soccer, where being the best doesn't count). Also our mascot is a female. Welcome to Akron Are you new here?

This is very good news. +1. But that tweet sounds awfully cocky and unremorseful for the pain his absence cost the team vs. WVU. I wish his tweet read something more along the lines of, "I'm back and want to appologize to my teammates and fans for letting you down when you needed me most. I promise this will never happen again. Go Zips!" That's more than 140 characters

Who will be leaving the Zips
yazan07 replied to UAsoccerchamps11's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
And David Mayer. This team will be just fine. I think Mattocks will leave, but he'll be the only non-senior leaving IMO. I think we may see a fair number of this years' freshman who got zero playing time transfer out. I don't think Mayer will return. Based on past history I could see the transfers. There's no point in staying behind someone who plays the full 90. I'm not really sure the mass exodus of freshman is what will happen though. Is a redshirt freshman more likely to transfer than a guy like Brenes? He doesn't really have a defined role yet will already be a junior. He's clearly a very good player but he's stuck behind two future MLS players in central midfield. I don't think Mayer goes though. Just look at his tweets from today. Mayer staying would certainly be a good thing. I don't read tweets but my statements about him transferring were not based on anything i heard nor on anything factual. I presumed he would leave because of lack of any playing time, albeit one half or less, over the last half of the season. Since all guys want to play i presumed he would transfer but it would be great news if he was to stay. I was really impressed with Mayer at the start of the season. After the Cal Poly game (when he was one of our better players) he didn't seem to play at all. We have played 5 other left backs plus Mayer this season (Stevenson, Portillos, Balogun, Gallego and Brenes) which is strange. Does anybody know what happened to Mayer? I believe he injured his foot/toe and was out for some amount of time because of that. I heard (just heard, I am not certain) that he and Porter had a falling out. I hope not. I really had high hopes for him too, and thought we would have been able to pencil him in as our starting LB. -
Maybe he saw Denzel Washington? If we could get Denzel Washington to be our coach, and he just gave speeches from Remember the Titans to our players, I'm sure they would perform better than then have been. Is that the best movie ever or what?

Awesome, wonderful news. Has this been the worst couple days to be a Zips fan ever? For anyone not keeping track, the soccer team was eliminated from the NCAA tournament. After much hype, Tressel will not be coming to Akron. The basketball team got destroyed the other day, and now this. We still don't know what happened to Rico and how long he will be out, hopefully he will be back soon, but I don't expect the same from Tree after this Can't-esque behavior.

Well I was afraid something like this would happen. Montreal just picked up LA GK Donovan Ricketts. He was LA's first choice GK for a while until injury took him out of the game and LA's #2 claimed the top spot. Even though Evan Bush had worked his way to the top spot at Montreal last year and was then signed by the MLS squad, I had a feeling they would sign a veteran GK who would take the starting job and put Bush at the #2 spot. I hope this does not deter Even from getting minutes this year. As most of you know though, keeper minutes do not go around the same way as minutes do for field players.

Couldn't find him. I got Chris Farley, Seth Rogen, and the Gungan King though. Ha, that's not the first time I've been told I look like Seth Rogen

DCI to kick off 2012 season at the Info
yazan07 replied to bandzip's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Couldn't make it to Innovations in Brass the past two years, I should be able to go this year. Looking forward to this. -
Yeah, and trading away Justin Braun for James Riley too. Not sure what's going on in Chivas land Chivas likes losing. They also like being second best to LA. Interesting note: Houston is opening a new stadium next year and Brian Ching, who is the club's captain and near retirement, said he refuses to play at Montreal. He said he would retire if picked up and take a job in their front office, but he was not moving to Montreal and is staying in Houston no matter what because he wants to be there for the new stadium. Do you think Montreal are trying to call his bluff or are they trying to bank on him wanting to stay in Houston and play bad enough that Montreal will make a trade if the terms are good enough. Kinda seems like a dick move on Montreal's part.

Thanks Yaznasty. I gathered as much when I read that Perry Kitchen had "graduated" from GA. I hadn't realized previously that it worked that way. So, the stipend to return to college is only there if you don't make it as a pro player? That, I am not sure about. I do have, however, and article that basically sums up Chivas's reasoning behind leaving certain players unprotected. Looks like Blair and Zarek weren't the only top draft picks left unprotected.
-
You graduate from GA based on minutes played, so although they are only one year out, Perry and Zarek graduated this year whereas the others have not. Also because of this, I believe Blair Gavin just graduated and maybe Teal as well. I'm really surprised Chivas would pick up Zarek as the 4th pick, play him so much, then leave him unprotected. Also keep in mind Montreal can only pick up one player per team, so Gavin and Zarek would not both leave if either of them. It also says a lot about how Chivas views Ben Zemanski that they protected him while leaving these guys unprotected.

Trip to Charlotte?
yazan07 replied to anonymous hippo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Here's my question, if the ranking does matter, then why do they even have the bid process? I will buy the weather argument because I'm sure the weather will be nicer there, but is that really the whole decision maker? I thought it had to do with facilities? I have not seen Charlotte's facilities, maybe they are really nice, but isn't the pouch one of the top in the country? I would just like to hear an explanation as to why we weren't selected. -

oh, gotcha. I love Newark. It's not really the most exciting place in the world, but I lived there for 18 years and home is home. Looking forward to heading back this week for Thanksgiving.

Haha story of my life since coming to Akron. Where do you work that has taken you to the land of giant baskets?

I'm from Newark! No one in Akron ever knows where Newark is!
