  1. can you imagine if a college professor went to a black college students meeting and yelled "death to all (N word)"?! Or if i went to a muslim students meeting/muslim speaker and yelled "death to islam"?Yeah...what a disgusting double-standard.This loon has been doing crap like this for years though.I don't usually like to get into this kind of debates on this board but you leave me no options.Israel is a political state, not a race, not a religion. So your comparison to someone yelling death to N word/Islam has no ground.Yelling death to Israel compares to yelling death to Saudi Arabia or Iran or Palestine, which, by the way, happens everyday and nobody cares.I am not denying that what you are referring to does not happen...but can you give me some specific instances of professors doing this?? I want to write letters to those universities as well. ThanksDoug, I do not have any instances neither am I interested in finding them for you or debating this topic any further. I was merely stating that opposing a political state is not the same as opposing a race or a religion.Hate is hate. Teachers and professors should be held to a higher standard and should never espouse hate. Period.Ada is correct, this isn't about death to the Jewish people, but the elimination of an out of control government that has too much power and abuses it at the cost of innocent lives. Blurring the line between Jews and Israel is a common mistake that comes out of a lack of knowledge of the conflict, which Americans have a distorted image of because of the bias presented in the media. Also, there is a difference between unfounded hate and hatred towards an entity that has destroyed so many lives. Hating the Israeli government is much closer to hating Al-Qaeda than hating black people or homosexuals, despite what both sides of the media tell you.I'd write more but I've gotta run, I think I hear the moderators coming and it's past my bed time.
  2. Wasn't it a kid's event? I mean if not, I would have loved to have hung out with Zeke, don't get me wrong, I just thought it was mostly directed towards kids and parents.
  3. In other MLS news, DC United named Perry Kitchen defender of the year.
  4. That's not what Andy Chiu's girlfriend said.I don't get if that's a joke or not.Ha kept you waiting all day. It was a joke for Ando but no one else would really get it. At the game the other day he and I were talking about the lineup and I said something about Andy Chiu and how he is Asian and a girl in front of us turned around and said she was his girlfriend. It was uncomfortable.
  5. I can only hope Caleb is not using the "Robin Fraser method", and neither developing young talent, not giving experienced players the opportunity to star, as our young ex-Zips players @ Home Depot Center are experiencing. On the draft side -- the MLS draft guru (forget his name) has come out with his first draft list of the top 25 players available, and only Darren Mottocks is included. I still believe Barson should be a high DP.I believe you're thinking of Ives Galarcep and the reason he didn't have them on his list is because they are already affiliated with MLS clubs and could sign with them if they wanted. That is actually where I got the idea that Barson and Caldwell would not have to receive GA contracts to leave early. The reason this hasn't happened too much yet is because the MLS academy system is relatively new so there haven't been that many college age players who have met the criteria to sign as a homegrown. But for example, last year Ethan White left Maryland early to sign as a homegrown with DC United and Aaron Horton left Louisville early to sign with the Crew. Neither of these players had GA contracts and going forward if some of our players are eager enough to go pro without getting offered a GA contract, they can do so. I don't know how much time each of these players have invested in their academy teams, or how much is mandated, but Scotty has played for New England, Chad, Eric Stevenson, Wils Trapp and I think Tommy Schmidt have all played for Columbus, Bryan Gallego is a product of the Red Bulls Academy, and of course DeAndre played for the Sounders Academy. I think any of them could leave without receiving a GA contract if they wanted. That's about as much as I know, for what it's worth. Maybe bisbe knows more than me.
  6. That's not what Andy Chiu's girlfriend said.
  7. I don't necessarily think they would need to, as they would be able to sign as homegrown players with Columbus and New England, respectively. Don't quote me on this because I'm not exactly sure how it works but I think because they played for those teams' academies they could sign directly with them. Let's just hope that whether or not that is a path they can take, that they chose to stay for their senior year. Although Mattocks is arguably our most important player right now, if we were to only have to really replace him next year, I think it could be a very successful year.
  8. Awesome to see our freshmen ranked so high. I also noticed #37 is Diego Navarette. Anyone remember him? He played for us for about 10 minutes in the Spring haha.
  9. What, did everyone just forget about Kyle Petersen all of the sudden? This is his breakout year for sure, I think he can even give Rico a run for his money at the starting spot. lol jkBut really, I thought the whole plan was for Walsh to be the backup PG. And I still don't see how without redshirting the freshmen there will be enough minutes for everyone. Even if both of them redshirt, seems like there is still a chance of one or two guys not really getting to do too much.
  10. From a time/availability viewpoint, would be easier to get the MNST head coaching position while coaching a college team or a MSL team?? I believe that is his ultimate goal.We will be at the game on Thursday. Hope the girls can get a big win.The Revs are a mess and a project and it would be worse for his career than staying at Akron by far. Also, as mentioned, MLS plays through the Summer whereas college does not. How would he balance trying to get a new team to qualify for the Olympics with trying to get a new MLS team to be good again? Way too much work. Also, this hasn't been mentioned yet, but is anyone going to want to buy Porter out of his current contract? Seems like it would be too much. NE's owners have a reputation for not investing the proper money into their club. The Revs are looking at a few others guys already, not worried about this one. Now if in a few years the head coach position at a good club opens up, that could be an issue. Again, I'm not concerned yet. I hope Caleb will take the Bruce Arena route. Arena was the coach at UVA for 17 years before making the leap to the pros. After only three seasons at DC he was tapped to be the head coach of the USMNT. This shows that you don't need a ton of pro experience to be the coach of the national team.
  11. I'm pretty sure only the use of 3 older players can be used in the final competition or Olympics and not qualifying matchesThanks Crew8...that's what I think.Did some digging on the concacaf website, here ya go:Men’s Tournament3. All players participating in the preliminary and final competitions of the Tournament shall be born on or after 1 January 1989. However, a maximum of three male players who do not meet this age limit may also be included in the official list of players for the final competition
  12. Wow. Two of the top 3 ranked teams in the country couldn't draw more than that in the hot-for-soccer ACC? Not good.I think the timing of this game was the problem. I watched the 2nd half on ESPNU because I didn't realize it started so early, at 5 pm I think. I thought it would be a 7 pm start. Ben Speas had a number of shots (name mentioned a lot by the announcers), but did not score.Ben Speas and McKalley Tulloch are not Zips because they would not conform to coach Porter's style. He mentioned this at his interview today.Where/when is said interview available?Did he talk about his new gig at all? Any more details from this conference would be appreciated. I have little doubt that it was the most exciting thing that happened in Zips athletics today. I wish I could have gone but I'm in Cincitucky visiting my friend this weekend.
  13. Been following Evan and the Impact all year and this is great news!! I hope Sinisa and Cameron catch on as well. Thanx for the scoop!I believe Cameron was already cut. I think Sinisa will make the cut, he had a good season with Montreal.
  14. That's tough. His contract right now is really good, and I'm pretty sure he loves where he is at in life at the moment, but it doesn't mean he couldn't leave. We saw him turn down an offer from an MLS side before, which is very reassuring, but if he was offered a full time position with US Soccer, it could be a different story. There is no reason to lose respect for someone who is trying to achieve their ultimate goal. I really do not think it is going out on a limb to say that Porter could very well one day be the coach of the senior national team. Him trying to get there isn't selling out. If he left us for another college team, that would hurt. As long as he is moving up, I can't blame him. Right now though, this is the PERFECT position. He is staying with us while having an incredible part time job with US Soccer. What a deal.
  15. That page is still bringing up an error but you can clearly see the headline. Someone on twitter posted this though, and it works, not sure how though. http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/sear...3.1.5-1.1.1l9l0
  16. He's not the coach of the actual national team. International soccer is much different from other sports because it actually matters outside of the Olympics. In fact, whereas I think the Olympics are the premier international event for a lot of sports, it's not that way with soccer. The coach of the national team has the right to coach the Olympic team if he wants, but often times he will abdicate that duty because it would mean juggling too many responsibilities. Our coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, has made the decision to do that, so they need someone to coach this team for the Olympics, just this Summer. Also, the rules for men's soccer at the Olympics mandate a team of players under the age of 23, with the exception of three overage players. This means that the team that will play at the Olympics is not going to be all of the same players that usually play for the national team. Also, looking back, it doesn't seem like a lot of the past Olympic soccer coaches were college coaches at the time, they have been mostly professional coaches or assistants with the senior US team.
  17. lol @the section about Toledo
  18. First of all, I'd just like to say that we can all take a lesson out of this: You lose to the worst team in the Big 10, you get to coach the US under-23 national team. Ouch, too soon? Yeah, too soon for me too... I don't expect every former Zip in the MLS to get a call-up just because Porter is the coach, or we will be hearing cries of nepotism a la Bob and Michael Bradley (even though him playing for his dad was justified). I would fully expect to see Teal get a call up, probably Kitchen too. Not sure about Zarek, Kofi is kind of a stretch at this point, and I'm not sure what the status is nationality wise on Darlington. The US has a lot of talent in the under-23 age pool. What you have to remember is that some of the guys who play for the senior squad are still under 23, like Jozy Altidore, Juan Agudelo, Timmy Chandler, Freddy Adu, and Brek Shea. Which leads me to the topic of the squad coming to Akron. I don't know how early this team would start training, it may or may not overlap with this college season. Probably depends on how deep of a run we make into the tournament. I do know though, and I can say this as a confident, heterosexual man, that if Brek Shea is anywhere near this city I will camp outside his hotel room to meet him.Oh, and if you're not familiar with how the Olympic team works, it's under 23, BUT you are allowed to have three overage players on your roster. Maybe we will also see Landon Donovan, maybe we will see Clint Dempsey, maybe we will see Tim Howard, maybe I am getting WAY ahead of myself. Not huge national news yet, because it hasn't been confirmed. If you go on twitter and search Caleb Porter, you will see that it is being discussed by multiple individuals in the soccer communityThis certainly is an exciting development for our school, our country, and our fearless leader Caleb Porter! Hope it's true
  19. That sounds like a negative the way it's phrased. If it was worded slightly differently to imply that Porter is honest with his current players in letting them know that incoming players might be more talented and take their playing time away, and that if they wanted to be assured of a lot of playing time they might be better off transferring to a team less loaded with talent, then it becomes a positive about Porter rather than a negative.Yeah, I definitely see it as a positive but I think there are others outside of our program who don't see it that way. I don't really want this discussion to get rolling again the way it did in the Spring season with all of the transfers, and if it does and it's my fault, sorry. Basically what I was saying is that in a team that is always so talented that it seems you're either the best and starting most of your time there, or you just occupy a bench spot, it's cool to see how Tommy has risen through the ranks.
  20. What do you want them to do? Hold hands with every new student? The Rowdies can't get every student involved. You know why? Because the student has to be willing to get involved as well. You saying what you did basically means that you're not willing to get involved. If they see you trying to get involved, they'll put forward their effort. When I was a freshman, I didn't get that involved the first month of fall semester. I decided to try and get more involved, and now I'm as comfortable as I've ever been. You have to understand. The Rowdies isn't an organization to get a t-shirt and sometimes free food while watching a sporting event. You're there to support YOUR SCHOOL and not there for YOURSELF. Big difference there. There's a reason why we have a 46 game unbeaten streak at home in men's soccer. My last point I'll make is this. No one stopped you from going to the other side in the second half. The score was 0-0. It was a conference game. Trying to do everything in our abilities to give our team an edge. Stop complaining and start getting involved...My problem continues to be with the alienating thing. I hear this often. You should work within your group to eliminate it. And here is the proof.... you just admitted as a freshman you were not that interested in getting involved but your involvement grew. It is impossible to join a group who intentionally alienates you. Moreover...you probably will make those possible future rabid fans stay home making the situation even worse. From what I can see....you are a great Zip fan. Can you help your fellow Zip students and fans??I was hoping to meet you today but with the chance of rain at 90%, I can't take my 3 year old daughter out in the cold rain. I like your passion and commitment.Go ZipsLook, no one was trying to alienate anyone. I know my decision to walk to the other side was fueled by the fact that A.) there was no one really on the East end, and B.) we were totally in charge of that game offensively. I knew that most of the action was going to be in their final third, and that really we did need to keep wearing that keeper down, because he was the only thing keeping that game from being a blowout. When we have 2,000 students at a game, of course we're not going to move to the other end, because there is no way that hardly any of them could come and it would be a waste to not have all of those student chanting together. Last night there really weren't many people participating and moving to the other end didn't feel like abandoning anything. Furthermore, the band wasn't there and that made being on the east end even more arbitrary. It's not like at halftime we handed out invites to move to the west end and some people didn't get them. Three years ago that was the norm, staying on the side of the other team's keep. It was a regular occurrence and it was possible every game because the number of students actually interested in cheering was low enough that they could easily move, and there was no drum band to cheer a long with. Last night was kind of a retro game for the rowdies; because of the lack of student involvement and because the drum band was not there, we were able to move and I think if you're looking at it big picture, we did our job in the most effective way possible.
  21. Darren was wearing an armband but he is NOT a captain.... During the pregame when the captains met it was only Scotty and Chad with the refs and other captains.Okay, so do you have any idea why he was wearing an armband? I guess it's really not that big of a deal haha
  22. Okay so I tend to notice little details a lot, and Darren was definitely wearing an armband tonight. Has he been named a captain? That would be unusual for a player to be named a captain mid-season. It's also strange considering I think Darren has displayed attitude problems in the past. Maybe with his ability as a player maturing, so is his personality. Tonight in the post game interview, Porter said he wouldn't trade Darren for any kid in the country, so he is very high on Darren right now. Also, another random talking point, but the student attendance was garbage tonight. Absolutely awful. Not sure if everyone went home this weekend or what, but people need to step it up. I hope the excitement of our team hasn't just worn off to these new kids.
  23. The thing I love most about Tommy is that Porter has received a lot of criticism (mostly from elsewhere, not us) about kinda telling players they should leave in order to make way for new freshmen, transfers, and internationals, but Tommy is an example of paying your dues and working hard and going from not playing much to breaking into the starting XI. I am happy for him.I think the change in personnel was to get Tommy and Luke in the starting line up together, something which we had not yet seen. It seemed to work well and we definitely had a more aggressive attack tonight, however I have to wonder if Porter just knew that Hartwick wasn't going to pose much of a threat offensively and that's why he didn't mind not playing our destroyer tonight.
