I'm gutted for Landon Donovan and shocked. But so excited for DeAndre. Where is Bisbee!? Congrats Bisbee, you and the Mrs. must be so proud

The date for this is June 17th at 7:30...which is a Tuesday. Better than nothing I guess. Who will be joining me at this game? Lot 9 tailgate? Hoping some fans from Columbus will make the trip so we can try to put on a good show for them. I think this game will be especially cool for Chad and Wil.

2014 Zips in Pro Leagues Domestic and International
yazan07 replied to yazan07's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Depends on how good of a season he has this year. There's always a shot. If he is a player that has a huge impact this year, he could be held over. If he ends up riding the pine/not making the 18 repeatedly, no. I know a few players from the USL Timbers were kept on when the team joined MLS, so the same could happen here. I think for someone who didn't catch on to an MLS team, it's the best route to the league. -
How could TFC let this guy go after all the great scouting he's done this offseason? Needless to say, I think we all have seen his work, and he is more than capable of finding a diamond in the rough or two. Can't wait to see how we're going to look with these guys in our lineup

Some news today out of Columbus, where Wil Trapp is named Columbus Crew Vice Captain for the 2014 season. He wore the armband a few times in preseason and will be backing up US International Michael Parkhurst. Parkhust is on the bubble for making the World Cup squad, and if he were to make it, Wil would skipper the team in his place. Pretty big for a player in his second year, in my opinion. -

Speaking of other leagues, I saw today that Blair Gavin is now with Eric Wynalda's Atlanta Silverbacks of the NASL. -
Guys the atmosphere at basketball games needs to improve and I have created a list of simple yet effective ideas to make it better: Secretly swap the names of all the sections so the seats of the really wealthy/disengaged attendees are actually up top without them knowing Get rid of the bleachers so everyone is like, on the same level man The only students allowed on the floor are ones who have a specific design of sleeve tattoo Have the Ohio State game on the big screen so students have something to watch while they're at the game Give every student who shows up an actual musical instrument so they can all be in the band and feel more engaged Then move the whole band up top where they belong Fire Dambrot, make Tressel the coach Have each student in attendance be entered into a drawing to coach the team for that day Force each AK-ROWDIE to sit in every other seat with 80-year olds in between so we can shame the 80 year olds into telling the other team they suck Allow students to have the opportunity to pay for their tickets because if they want a better product on the court they should do something about it Have each student in attendance be entered into a drawing to coach the other team for that day Get rid of the band Start scheduling "bigger" opponents the so the games are "actually" fun to watch Have each student in attendance be entered into a drawing to play on the team for that game Just tear down the JAR and play the games in the open so students don't have to feel like they have to travel to a building to watch the game

Also wanted to add that Wil Trapp wore the captain's armband in the first half of Columbus's 3-1 win over Toronto FC. I thought that was a pretty big compliment to the second year player. -

Probably shouldn't perpetuate a rumor that I have no way of knowing the truth about, but word going around after that season ended was that he was asked to take one of the PKs but didn't want the pressure of it. Honestly I couldn't totally blame him, I'd probably piss my pants if I were in that situation, but it kind of comes with the gig. Full disclosure though, there were just rumblings of this, there could absolutely be no truth to that. EDIT: Found an old article that said Teal had a groin issue that prevented him from taking a PK. I don't know, but well all know Teal can take penalty kicks... -
You guys know the drill here. 2014 edition of the happenings of our former Zips in their professional careers. I was going to use the same title, but then I realized we had guys like Ampai and Zarek playing abroad, and when I added that the title just became far too convoluted, so I tried to make it shorter and sweeter. Two big pieces of news today. Teal was traded to New England for a 2015 first round draft pick. This will reunite him with former Zip Scott Caldwell who wasn't too scared to take a PK his freshman year in the 2009 final. Other interesting piece of info was that Bryan Gallego was sent on a season-long loan to Sacramento Republic FC of the USL Pro. As you may or may not know, MLS has a deal with USL where each MLS team either needs to partner with a USL team and send players on loan, or field their own squad to compete in USL.

I would be interested to hear how we found the kid from New Zealand. Gavin Wilkinson (Timbers GM) and current Timbers assistant coach and former Zip Cameron Knowles are both from New Zealand and have played for the All Whites. I'm just wondering if that connection had anything to do with this, or if the two aren't connected. Either way, I am glad to see that even though Porter has left, his influence continues to be felt. I don't see any way it isn't a positive for all parties involved.

Reinaldo was on this list on the second day of the combine, also on the stock down section...

Phil Fives can finally wear the #5 shirt, something I have been demanding the past two years.

Klinsmann loves playing mind games. This one was likely to keep them grounded and focused, and not let their heads get big.

2013 Zips in the MLS, NASL, USLPro Thread

Actually, I guess Klinsmann is only taking 23 to Brazil out of the 26 he called into January camp. There's a chance Yedlin wouldn't get to make the trip, which would be disappointing for him. Hope he is included. -
The 2010 Men's Soccer Team is a finalist for the title of best title-winning D1 team of all time. Really it means nothing, but would be a pretty cool thing just to brag about even though we are going to be the ones deciding it by voting the most. haha Vote here, as much as you want: http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/the91stminu...ms-of-all-time/

Caleb's Porterland Timbers FC

Well in case you hadn't somehow heard already, Porter won MLS Coach of the Year. Pretty cool for a first year coach if you ask me, and absolutely well-deserved, despite what some whiny RSL fans are saying. -
Seriously, how perfect is that? If a kid in the academy isn't ready for the first team, Porter sends him to Akron, where he knows what kind of training he is going to get, since you know, Embick was his right hand man, and then when they are ready he can sign them with the first team. And during summer break when they're in college, they can go play with the U-23 team. It would be nice if this could just keep happening for a long time.

Yes, I believe they are cousins. Mikey is George's son, Brett is probably Louis' son.

Akron Zips @ Marquette Golden Eagles
yazan07 replied to fknbuflobo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Sad to see Akron and Portland's seasons end on the same night. Going forward, I'm really concerned about our losses next year. Our attack could be left in shambles with all of our attack graduating. Down the stretch, where we really started heating up, it was the seniors who put the team on their backs and carried us to wins. Is Najem the only attacking player we have returning who really played this year? Yeah I think next year will be even more a test for Embick. Hopefully Gallego comes back next year, they will need his leadership. That one really comes down to a decision of how bad Porter thinks he needs Bryan or if he thinks he's better off playing his last year at Akron.
