Was anyone following the hoopla leading up to this game? Orlando City has been KC's USL affiliate this year, and one of the players KC loaned Orlando has been lighting it up this year for them, I think he's had something like 15 goals in 13 appearances. Well, anyway when these two teams were to face each other in Open Cup play (something that wasn't expected to happen when the loan program was developed) there was a debate as to whether or not KC would let him play. Of course, they didn't, but I guess Orlando maybe had a chip on their shoulder and managed to get the win anyway. Probably didn't hurt that Zusi and Besler are with the national team.

Voting for the MLS all-star game against AS Roma opened today. Among the candidates eligible for voting are Nagbe, Sarkodie, Yedlin, and Kitchen. I voted for all four, and I could definitely see DeAndre getting voted in with the huge Sounders fanbase as well as the hype surrounding him right now. I also think Darlington has a good shot, he's been playing very well this year. Kofi probably has more of an outside chance, and I don't see Perry, or anyone from DC United getting picked. The funny thing about Chad's comment about learning to get forward as an outside back in college is that as we know he played exclusively as a center back in college and really didn't get forward that much.

I was also in DC with some friends that weekend! Went just for a visit. I wanted to go to that United-Timbers game but couldn't really persuade my group. How awful is Dc United this year? Just atrocious. Would've liked to have made it out though. Oh and go Zeke! I'm also pushing for the one more Zip in Portland thing

All four of our Zips in Portland started in last night's US Open Cup match. Unfortunately they fell 1-0 to the Charleston Battery. Abdul-Salam played as an outside back, where he'll probably be playing this Fall

Just posted this in the PDL thread, but applies here as well. Timbers U-23 roster has been finalized. We already knew Gallego and Brenes would be playing for Portland this season, but Abdul-Salam has also been added to the roster as well as Meves. http://www.portlandtimbers.com/news/2013/0...ter-2013-season I wasn't exactly sure what Meves' status was prior to this. Although he was drafted by the Timbers, he is no longer on the roster and was at one point listed as a "non-roster" player or something like that. The Portland-Akron connection continues to grow. It's been about five months since Caleb Porter left Akron, but he continues to help this team out. It's nice to know that losing him to the pros has more of a benefit to our program than just the name dropping of our university and the knowledge of where Porter came from.

Timbers are rolling, beat Chivas today 3-0. The improve to 4-1-6, good enough for 2nd place in the West. This team is the real deal.

Has Wil even made the 18 for a first team match? I don't think so, which is too bad because we all know how good he is. Of course Warzycha is going to pick his son though.

I think Chad and Zarek were just better than him. I mean, and with no disrespect to Matt, you're talking about the local kid from Firestone (not sure if he was even on scholarship?) vs. a pair of nationally ranked defenders. After the season where he started, the next time he really challenged for playing time was after Zarek had left for MLS, and Porter had experimented with putting Gallego at LB or DM rather than pairing him with Chad in central defense. I think in 2009-2010 maybe you could say that he was the #3 centerback, but because Zarek and Chad played nearly, if not every minute those two seasons, Matt was rarely called into action. It was kind of nice to see towards the latter half of the 2011 season that he was getting minutes, you almost felt like he earned it for sticking it out with the team.

According to GoZips.com we lost 1-0 today, with the goal being scored in the first minute of play. We played without Derschang and Gallego, and Stevenson only went 45. Also, we apparently used this game to try a new formation. Of course, the article makes no mention of what this new formation was, how we lined up, or anything like that which would be of interest to us.
