While I'm sure not ALL Youngstown fans are as classless as the Yappi posters you refer to, it would pay for all of YSU's supporters to remember one thing: You live in the armpit of Ohio. Your claim to fame is having Jim Tressel bolt and a congressman, James Trafficant, who believes in aliens. Besides your mob connections and being the birthplace of greasy DeBartelo, you guys should really try to live in more anonymity...because when you post things you don't know about, it only draws attention to your stupidity and reminds us all of what a filthy, rundown, decaying cesspool the entire forgotten Youngstown region truly is.

PD Article: Terry Bowden talks Urban Meyer
ZipRoo replied to scottditzen's topic in Akron Zips Football
Great article, and very relevant tying in OSU's current probation woes with the probation success that our own newsworthy coach enjoyed at Auburn. Don't see how anyone couldn't grasp this. The media is not Akron's "publicity agent." When there's something relevant involving the Zips program, they'll report it. When there's not, we should be ecstatic to even be mentioned in such a positive light in an article like this. -
Yeah...heh, heh...good luck with THAT, Chaz!

The Can't State visitors to our site just crapped their diapers.

Hope you're watching the OK State Fiesta Bowl Game
ZipRoo replied to NewZipsFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
As Bobby Bowden learned at FSU far too often, a reliable kicker is worth his weight in gold. Whereas the Seminoles just could never seem to recruit an automatic FG/PAT guy, Akron seems set for the next three years in that regard. The Zips have also had an amazing run of star kickers (discounting the previous regime's). -
It can't hurt to take advantage of Jason's retirement and newsworthiness this season. Above all, RECRUITS need to see that there is definitely hope of an NFL career for Akron alums, despite the Zips' record, conference, history, or 'image' as a smaller school. Anything Coach Bowden can do to entice JT to place a phone call, meet recruits/families face-to-face, or otherwise assist in the quick rebuild of our program will be a big boost.

LBJ did "one thing," Trimmie? So much is wrong with that statement. Guess you forgot how he flat-out quit on his team in the playoffs, refused to help recruit other players to come here, refused to even take the phone calls from his employer who had built him his own practice facility, catered to him and his posse for seven years like spoiled brats; conspired secretly to escape NE Ohio and build an "easy" way to win championships by stacking his team against the competition; completely throwing Cleveland under the bus on a national TV spectacle of epic egomaniac proportions, while preventing the Cavs from even making a move in free agency--because he gave no hint as to his sordid little plan. I could go on and on and on.....but, you see, little Trimmie, St. LeBron is anything BUT. "One classless thing?!" The man-child PERSONIFIES CLASSLESSNESS. Accept it.

Ho-hum. So hillbottomer is still living in denial. Typical. Anyone here want Romo at QB when the game is on the line? Or want to give him a $67.5 mil contract after one mediocre season? No? Gosh. Really? No one said he's the worst, as Cleveland corners that market. But overrated? Oh yeah. Congrats to Blackburn; and here's hoping UA brings Taylor back for some type of honor sooner than later. Why wait five years til he's a "possible" first-ballot guy? Strike while the iron's hot.
-
Zip Alum Karma!! Wonder when Jerry Jones and the rest of the so-called "experts" are gonna wake up to the fact that Tony Romo is the most overrated player in the NFL. Eight years and counting... Meanwhile, the billionaire has 1 playoff in 15 years of ownership?

School to the East's reaction to the Terry Bowden hire
ZipRoo replied to mes102's topic in Akron Zips Football
Know what? I click to this topic, don't bother reading any of this garbage, and click away. Let the Can't Staters argue among themselves. We know we've got our leader. If they thought they had theirs, they wouldn't be so worried about coming here to try and tear ours down. SEE YA! -
Amazing that the hometown newspaper won't have the "scoop" on Amato's hiring until...oh, at least 2 or 3 days after it was reported here on ZNO. If the ABJ is still wondering why people don't interact with their many blogs (some of which post new items every few MONTHS), or come to Ohio.com for any sort of "breaking" news, this is their first clue: Other sources have the news DAYS before you get around to posting it. Is it any wonder the PD routinely gets 100 comments per sports column or story, and the BJ struggles for 100 "reads" per story? Come on, put a little more effort into it, guys.
-
As much as we enjoyed poking Amato after that improbable, controversial upset years ago, and Chuck's non-qualifiers comments, I know we'd all be THRILLED to have him here. The man can coach, is a respected name in D-1 college football.....and he'd give the UA sports marketing dept. a GREAT tie-in. Every Zip fan must wear those ultra-dark, thin, wrap-around sunglasses. B) B)

I don't know who's more excited about it, B&G....Bowden or UA fans! It's clear from the outset, this man will be one of the biggest assets Northeast Ohio has had in a long, long time. He can do no wrong in the eyes of Zips fans, who've waited decades for someone to truly LEAD them.

Smart! Before PW turned down the Zips, I said that should have been his second phone call. Looks like TB and I are on the same page early. It's Brian's decision, but I'm glad to hear Mr Bowden put it as high priority. Let's see if Mr Bowden can out recruit Urban Meyers right off the bat?!?!? Zips are bowl-eligible in '12. OSU can't even compete for a league title. There will be PLENTY of buzz and media coverage of Akron next season, as Coach Bowden will bring eyes to NE Ohio to see how quickly the Zips can begin turning the corner. Brian Wagner would certainly STAND OUT among all the attention. And don't think Bowden doesn't have some NFL ties to get this kid the notice he deserves. Seriously, would Wagner rather stake his future on the anti-Coach who just trashed his soph and junior years, along with the clear-buffoon Weis, who sold the Browns a completely false bill-of-goods in Brady Quinn and can no longer be taken seriously by NFL GMs......or the respected Bowden legacy and an honorable rebuild of the only D-1 school that offered BW a scholarship? There's much to be said for loyalty, Brian.

VCU at Akron on December 29th, 2011
ZipRoo replied to Districtballer's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
It does seem like we've lost a disproportionate number of "close games" like this over the past five years. Very frustrating. Keith's quote, "We've got to learn how to win games like this..." How is that lesson learned? -
If that's true and Wistrcill had a big hand in making this happen, I'm more than willing to eat crow and give credit where it's due.

School to the East's reaction to the Terry Bowden hire
ZipRoo replied to mes102's topic in Akron Zips Football
We, of course, could care less about Can't State's jealousy. They're quaking and hiding behind gossip, only because they know there's a Big Player who's gonna lead the Zips over the Flushes annually. Hazell was a good hire, to be sure. But Bowden was a GREAT hire. -
A good defense and mediocre offense equals boring football. When all is said and done, football on a Saturday afternoon is "entertainment." When your team does not move the ball or score, as we've seen the past few seasons, in particular, even hardcore fans stop coming. It's not fun anymore. The Browns could take a lesson, as well. They tried the "shorten the game, score few points" strategy with Mangini and others, and yet, the only season of true excitement for the team was 2007, when the offense was wide-open and scoring at will. Braylon, Joe J. and K2 made great targets. Every QB needs to have receivers he can count on. Holmgren destroyed McCoy's chances here by forgetting that basic fact. I've seen better receivers at Mount Union than the Zips have fielded recently, guys who knew how to get open. I'm willing to give T-Bowden a pass and let him call the plays because he's earned that opportunity.....something the worthless Shurmur never did. OFFENSE brings fans. When there's a prevailing sense that your team is overmatched and will not score in each game, the stadium sits empty. Bowden seems to grasp that, and it's just shocking that the prior regime was so, so clueless in that respect.
-
Stupid call, not giving his team (AF and Akron) a chance to win the game. Two-point conversions are probably less-than-50% successful. Why risk it with the game on the line and a chance to win in OT? Sure, it may "seem" like a bold, aggressive move...but ask those Akron and Air Force players how they felt when their coach stripped them of any chance to win in OT. Akron had a very reliable FG kicker, too, so there's an OT edge. Of course, it also means "stopping" the other team, which I-a-clueless could never achieve.

It's impossible to tell from UA or GoZips whether Jason's number is retired. He and Angeloff are the only "players" in the Ring of Honor, which is not even mentioned anywhere on GoZips.com. I had to read about the Ring of Honor on Jason's site. (Sigh...business as usual.) So, we still don't know if the Ring of Honor involves a number retirement, and it appears that Jason is not in the UA Sports Hall of Fame...at least he's not listed under the "T's". With Bowden ushering in an exciting new era of Zips football, it would be nice to have all of our grads with NFL ties on-hand for some type of recognition...Taylor, Frye, Smith, Blackburn, Hixon...others? There are a lot of "fringe" fans who may jump on the bandwagon and have no idea that Akron has produced such outstanding talent in the past decade. Use your assets, Zipster.

Former Can't State HC Martin makes headlines
ZipRoo replied to Hilltopper's topic in Akron Zips Football
I know people here like to knock and mock Doug Martin, but he's Knute Rockne and Vince Lombardi in comparison to what the Zips have endured the past five years. Not only did he tutor Josh Cribbs and Julian Edelman, he had the 25th best passing offense last season for perennial loser NMS. Shoot, I would've taken him in a split-second over deposed QB "guru" Ron Powlus, whose two years produced some of the most inept, embarrassing quarterback play ever seen in allegedly-Division 1 college football. Once again, thanks so much, Tom Wistrcill. -
Agreed on that. It would be fitting if the Zips retired his number and brought him in for a ceremony. Absolutely! This is exactly the kind of high-profile "tie-in to past successes" that UA needs to capitalize on. Everyone knows Jason Taylor, either from his football career or Dancing With the Stars. The only question is: which game to do it. Since the home opener with Bowden will likely be a near sell-out anyway, I'd say schedule the jersey retirement and ceremony for the SECOND home game this fall. (Only snafu would be, it would be nice to have his former coach, Lee Owens, on hand. Wonder if Ashland and Akron schedules, day/time/etc., can be worked out?)

The computer / tech era exploded while Clinton just happened to live in the White House. Should we also give him the credit for the way it affected the economy? Of course not. People on here are so quick to give TW a free pass, and it's mystifying.
