I was waiting for someone to comment on this.
I give a mixed review on Abdul-Salaam at LB, especially at OSU. He seemed tentative to go to the end line for the cross, lacking confidence in his left-footed service. Instead, he cut it back for the drop pass almost every time. It got to the point that the OSU defense would anticipate his cut-back rather than his cross. It is entirely possible that he grows further into this position. His athleticism, ball skill, and pace are obvious.
The undeniable talent of Abdul-Salaam notwithstanding, the best option I have seen at LB this year is Derschang, a natural lefty. The one match Derschang played at LB rendered a dozen left footed crosses, similar to Yedlin from RB position. Derschang is also the more physically rugged of the two. And Derschang is nearly as fast as Yedlin on the straight sprint. Regardless, Abdul-Salaam deserves significant PT somewhere on the pitch, even coming off the bench. I suspect his best position is L Wing/Forward. Good things are definitely ahead for this young man.
