  3. Very late to the party indeed! http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/index.html Group stage had 28 teams.
  4. It was a very competitive match at a great facility against a quality opponent. The weather was gorgeous! Each team missed multiple chances. I am quite proud of how the undermanned Zips conducted their business against a superior side. A special shout-out goes to Bryan Gallego who toughed through most of the first half in obvious discomfort to his hamstring. I am not so sure his choice to play was wise, but his grit is why he is the captain of this team. Zips were Barson's team the last two years. This is now Gallego's team. Maybe 2013 will not be so bad after all. I am also proud of the few dozen Zips supporters who made the trek to College Park. We made our presence known in (mostly) classy ways. I was proud to be among the Akron faithful there.
  5. The Red team gained the lead minutes later when Morris edged out DeAndre Yedlin in a foot race after Omar Salgado hit a through ball down the left side. With Yedlin on the ground after tripping up in Morris’ feet, the Sounders attacker picked up his head and spotted Alfred Koroma wide open on the far post. Koroma made easy work of the finish, which gave the Red squad the lead at the break. Wow. I did not think that was humanly possible. There must be "mercury" in the Seattle water.
  6. Uh, er, Gallego is still returning to play this fall, right?
  7. The best available players play. Plain and simple. Porter knew that he had to recruit heavily in Defense after the year (2008) when Matt Dagilis started. Porter did that. When Barson and Valentin arrived in 2009, the decision was a no brainer. And Dagilis was not going to bench Korb, much less Sarkodie. Athletics is cruel, true, but cruel. Matt will always be welcome in Akron and among those surrounding the program.
  8. Well said. Much love for Ampai!
  9. OK. I guess the match is on Sunday instead. Is anyone going? Please report.
  10. Yes. Everyone will know soon enough!
  11. Zemanski back on the reserve squad?
  12. Cannot make it, so I must rely on others to share. Projected @ Butler S/4/20/2013: Portillos************Foldesy ***********Brenes********* Malkin*************Quinn **********Souto********** Fives********************Abdul-Salaam ******Ruhaak****Souders****** *************Pina**************** Stevenson hurt, Gallego hurt, Derschang extended hurt.
  13. Portillos scored the first goal. Nice all around match by Zac. He needs to gain more confidence. Hopefully, this is a step forward. Talk about shaky, that is how I would describe Osas Malkin. Let's hope that was not the young man's best effort. Nice to see Brad Ruhaak looking serviceable in relief of Gallego.
  14. Yedlin was better than I expected when I first saw him in August 2011. He has improved steadily throughout. Right now, he is playing much better in MLS than I predicted. Kid just keeps bringing it!Commentators are now talking him into USMNT call-up. WOW!
  15. How does one join? Is there a form or something?
  16. Excellent ball into the box by Yedlin to Neagle to Zakuani, deflected shot by Stevo knocked in by Neagle. Great scoring sequence initiated by Yedlin. Unfortunately, Santos Laguna advances on Sounders in CONCACAF Champions League 2:1 aggregate.
  17. Victor Souto impressed again at DM.
  18. Well done DeA! You do us proud!
  19. Yeah. A bunch of whiny bitches we are.
  20. Will Paul Warner be there Saturday?
  21. I remember. It it also fair to remember that UCSB was eventual champion.
  22. Right. Give us something.
  23. Bravo. Well said. Thanks for listing Docking's resume. I did not have access to it when I was previously posting. Embick has much to live up to. He will be compared to every past Zips coach, not just Porter.
  24. 1. I believe Shaun Docking is poised to take one of the bigger jobs in NCAA Soccer, Akron being one of those higher profile jobs. Yes, I consider him a top flight coach despite his career record. I suspect Coastal Carolina does not enjoy the same resources as does Akron. 2. I am not against Jared Embick; I very much want him to succeed. But he does not have an excuse to fail before competition even begins. 3. Perhaps I do need a reality check. Maybe Akron Soccer does not have the AD support that I wish it had. I am hardly ever on campus nowadays. If what you suggest is true, then it is shameful. I will see you Saturday?
