  1. I agree. I wish UMASS was joining the MAC in all sports and the Zips moving to C-USA or A-10.
  2. Tonight, my friend and I were reminiscing about a UA football game we went to last year and we're laughing hysterically recalling a play in where Nicely was getting sacked in our own endzone and when he was parallel with the ground he decided to throw the ball (perhaps to the MAC football gods) and was easily intercepted for a touchdown. It TRULY was the stupidest, funniest, most unfathomable play ever. This guy couldn't start for a D-6 JV squad. Did anyone see this extraordinarily nicely play? If you did, do you remember who we were playing?
  3. Ok thank you, I wasn't quite sure if Xavier had made the tournament last year. Well, it will be another good test for us then.
  4. Anyone attending the 2nd home exhibition this Saturday? Don't know too much about Xavier soccer, but don't think they are too good, perhaps we can finish some goals this time.
  5. The author of this article, Amy Daughters, referred to Zippy as "He." NOOB!!
  6. I just want to remind everyone that the Youngstown State PENGUINS beat Butler this year and I think that is pretty hilarious. So, Go PENGUINS! But seriously Go Butler! A Horizon team making it BACK to the National Championship is incredible and only does wonders for all the mid-majors out there.
  7. Check out this link- According to the MLS Ampaipitakwong played college ball at Akron University Talk about total disrespect and disregard for the National Champs!! I mean COME ON!!! Ampai Akron University? I know some people who do not think this slight name change is a big deal, but OUR University is called University of Akron just like it once was called "Buchtel College" and not "College of Buchtel"
  8. Perhaps you could refer to us as the Zips. "I'm going to a Zips game." No way they can mistake that for something else. When talking about the university (not sports) I always say UA. When talking about sports, I tend to say Zips. If people are too ignorant to figure out what I mean, they're not the kind of people I would want to be talking to anyway. I agree, I think saying "UA" or "Zips" is the best way to refer to our University, rather than comprising it by saying Akron U or Akron University
  9. From the inner workings of UA, Caleb Porter is planning to commit 5 of his Zips to the Akron Summit Assaults- Akron Summit Assault Schedule 2011 Schedule -May 14 Chicago at Akron (St. V/M) -May 17 Akron at Cincinnati -May 19 Akron at River City -May 22 Indiana at Akron (St. V/M) -June 4 Cincinnati at Akron -June 7 Akron at Cincinnati -June 18 River City at Akron (St. V/M) -June 22 Akron at Michigan -June 26 River City at Akron (St. V/M) -June 29 Michigan at Akron (at U of A) -July 2 Chicago at Akron (at U of A) -July 6 Akron at Hamilton -July 8 Akron at London -July 12 Akron at Indiana -July 16 Hamilton at Akron (St. V/M) -July 24 Akron at Chicago Channel 5 News Story-Akron Summit Assault
  10. Not sure who. I don't think there has been an official roster press release as of yet. However, my girlfriend is working an internship with the team as a Graphic Designer- and apparently she has heard, through the grapevine, Caleb Porter has committed the maximum amount of players he is allowed, which is 5, to the Summit Assault. Here's the article about the team's welcoming to Akron and the PDL League Akron Summit Assault A quote from the article to back my statement up: "The Akron Summit Assault will be comprised of players mainly from universities and colleges in Ohio."
  11. Here is the official postcard of the Akron Summit Assaults- A great spring/summer idea for the whole family! Over 67% of players in the PDL (Premier Development League) get drafted to the MLS- Plus, 5 Akron Zips will be playing on the Summit Assaults, so you can watch the UAers play before the Zips season begins!! 13. I agree with many of the posts The track needs to be gone- The classrooms serve no practical purpose-Infocision has plenty of classrooms to cover what classes are in the JAR right now A trophy case/display needs to be visible right when fans walk in- right where the plaster Zippy is located or near it Perhaps a monument of Akron's greatest basketball player on the outside to give the program a sense of history-- Any team that is successful or wants to be successful has recognize the importance of it's history and how to prolong it- So who could the player be?
  14. Hi Zip fans, My girlfriend is a graphic designer and just received an internship with the Akron Summit Assaults- She has been working on flyers, posters and other materials for the team. From what I have seen from the flyers- it looks like the jerseys are going to be a solid orange one and a solid green one, with a mountain landscape occupying the bottom half of the jersey. Anyways, just thought I'd post that for those who are interested-
  15. I've already heard talks about a new arena for the Zips looming in the future, but is it a tangible thing? The football and soccer teams have received new facilities and plenty of academic buildings are in the works.. ie: College of Ed I believe if the Zips can win a couple more MAC championships within the next 3-5 years or, if somehow, the Zips go deep this year. then there will be serious talks and planning concerning a new arena. What's a good location for a new arena? Then what do you think happens to the JAR, does the University leave it as classrooms and as an intramural playground for students?
  16. Well... it has happened 4 times since 1985 that a 15 seed has indeed beaten a 2 seed and UA does have experience as a 15 seed having played no. 2 Michigan in 1986 and losing by only 6 points. I know it's a long shot, but how can UA feasibly beat Notre Dame? I feel if Zeke stays out of foul trouble he can have another spectacular game like the one he had last night- Additionally, having Mcnees, Mclanahan and Roberts hot from behind the arc would certainly help as well- Go Zips!!
