  1. I've read on their FB page, a Canton Invaders reunion game is scheduled before the Saturday(2/25) Vortex match. I don't see it mentioned on the website though. I've been thinking of going to a Vortex's game, but I haven't made it yet. I'll probably attend one of the last two matches. I believe Denzil Antonio(head coach) is a player/head coach
  2. Porter sees strong progression in U-23 MNT Group following January Camp EDIT: BTW anyone heading to Nashville for the Olympic Qualifiers? Just around the corner, less than two months.
  3. Steve played 40 minutes in a Sounders inter scrimmage today. Steve's older brother Gabriel who plays central defender for Peterborough United, an English League Championship club. I happened to stumble across this article today. Zakuani scoops top ET Sports Awards. Gabriel is really making a name for himself to Posh fans as a player and off the field.
  4. Here are two stories from GW on his run for FIFA President It's time for someone to depose Sepp Blatter as FIFA's leader - watch the video too My story: What happened when I decided to run for FIFA president
  5. A look at Northern Illinois new class Huskie Men's soccer signs eight for 2012
  6. I think Yaz is talking about the new family member Caleb and his wife are welcoming into the world within the last 24 hours. Congrats to the Porter family! EDIT: As mentioned above by Yaz!
  7. IMO I think it comes down to playing time more than anything. If you're not starting at the college level, your goals of developing and moving onto the next level are pretty much non existent. A player probably feels they lost the coach's confidence or don't fit into the system of the club. Which very well might be the case. In soccer, the movement of players to other clubs probably happens more than any other sport especially in lower leagues across the world and Europe. You'll see many times, players who are in the reserves and can't crack the big clubs eighteen. Will be loaned out to a smaller club for 6-12 months to receive playing time. Playing time is such an important part of the game. Just as the the headline says....January Transfer Window is Open.
  8. I had a feeling David Mayer was moving, but to Charlotte surprises me.
  9. I believe you're thinking of someone else, but he has played for the US U-17's. Bunbury did receive his first cap in that game replacing Robbie "can't score a goal from 5 ft" Findlay. Bunbury was involved on the play Agudelo scored the lone goal in that game.
  10. ESPN still has him listed and committed to Akron - 2012 Division 1 Verbal Commitments
  11. Thanks to all those who made it out Saturday evening. A fantastic turnout. We'll be back at it again this Wednesday at Manny's Pub. USMNT vs Panama. Kick off at 8:30pm. Game is only televised on Galavision and ESPN3 if you can't make it out. Hope to see Teal Bunbury get the start again.
  12. Thanks! looking forward to seeing all of you tomorrow night. It should be a grand time. Here are a few of the prizes we'll be giving away tomorrow thanks to International Soccer Network. A Tony Meola autographed photo('90 & '94 USMNT World Cup goalkeeper), 2 Rise & Shine: Jay DeMerit DVD's, 2 The Beckham Experiment books by Grant Wahl, and a few AO Scarves.
  13. I'm not going to say much on the topic of the Crew, but I do know plenty of people who purchase season tickets and travel to Crew matches from Toledo, Cleveland, Akron, Youngstown, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Dayton, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh. It stretches outside the state. Those are the hardcore soccer fans. The attendance problem probably relies more heavily on the people within the Columbus area than those outside the city. Although you need both to contribute in some sort of way. I have no relation to Columbus either besides the many new soccer friends I've met at Crew Stadium over the years either in the stands, Nordecke, or in the parking lot tailgating. Ever since my first visit to Crew stadium back in either '01 or '02. I remember watching the supporters section from across the stadium and telling myself, "I want to be there". I remember when Brian McBride, Frankie Hejduk, Cunningham's first stint with Columbus. Some good times. I've made many trips to Crew Stadium carpooling with new friends I met from Cleveland and Youngstown or Crew fans here in Akron. I'd love to have an MLS club or even an USL Pro or NASL club in the NE Ohio area, but until that day, I'll follow the Crew as my MLS Club, wishing the best to former Akron players. EDIT: I just came across this piece tonight and thought it was worth sharing a good read. Soccer's Heavy Boredom
  14. Yes, its the international spot on the roster what kept teams away. He'll get an invite from some club, if not MLS, USL if he wants to choose that route.
  15. Luke Holmes will have to wait for an invite to a club/preseason. He was not picked in the MLS Supplemental Draft today.
  16. Everyone here is welcome to join AO Akron at Manny's Pub this Saturday to watch Teal Bunbury and the rest of the USMNT take on Venezuela. Kick off at 9pm. Free Beer, Prizes, and ruckus. Visit either link for more info, AO Website or Facebook Event Page The last time we had a Free Keg of Beer......Bunbury scored his first goal for the USMNT. BOON-BOO-REE!!!
  17. Interview with Luke Holmes before the Draft Holmes on the hunt for his chance
  18. In today's US U-23 vs Cupcake USMNT scrimmage finished at the half with USMNT leading 4-0. Bunbury scored a goal for the USMNT. Valentin and Sarkodie played the first half for U-23, but did not come out for the second half. First Half: #USMNT lineup for scrimmage: Rimando; Loyd, Parkhurst, Cameron, Pearce; Zusi, Feilhaber, Larentowicz, Shea; Wondolowski, Agudelo(Bunbury subbed in) vs. U-23 #USMNT lineup for 1st half: MacMath; Gatt, Wenger, Valentin, Sarkodie; Okugo, Jeffrey, Diskerud; Adu, McInerney, Duka
  19. Here is another video interview with Ben Speas, Crew GM McCullers and Coach Warzycha while at Draft Day. Ben Speas Signs Homegrown Contract
  20. Luke will need to wait until Tuesday to find out what team has chosen him in the Supplemental Draft. What a long wait that is from today.
  21. Not yet, just about to finish up round 1. If drafted today, probably a mid to late 2nd round
  22. Luke needs his own board as we wait to see where he's selected in the draft today or Monday in the Supplemental Draft
  23. Vancouver selects Mattocks with the second pick
