  1. I don't know how "good" they ought to be. Halfway through a huge rebuilding job and starting 3 freshmen they have only a single loss and are ranked number 5 on latest NSCAA poll. That to me,at this point,is outstanding. I think they are good...maybe can develop to be the best this year. I am very impressed that we are doing this wilth freshmen. My point is I think we are not in the to 5 right now. We need to play together more and learn the system. Way to many bad passes and to much passivity. Again...I am NOT an expert. Why the pass all the way back to our goalie from deep in their zone?? I just don't understand the strategy.
  2. Disclaimer: I am not an expert on soccer. To me...I don't think the Zips are as good as we hoped they would be. They seem to have lots of talent but are not yet functioning as a TEAM at a high level. They are a dangerous team near the goal but they do not aggressively attack. I don't understand the strategy of throwing the ball in from their "10 yard line" and passing it all the way back to our goalie to reset. Is it just to take time off the clock?? I would hope that once we have the ball deep in their end that we would attack...we have creative guys who can score. In the end...I only care that the Zips win. And they beat Penn State at home. Penn State would never consider coming to Akron in my day.
  3. I agree,,BUT RI and his staff have taken an AVERAGE FOOTBALL TEAM and run it into the ground,,, We haven't been average in 6 seasons. We have been below average in the MAC for the same length of time. Exactly what "average football team" are you referring to? 2006 - 5-7; two of those wins were against non MAC schools (NC State and North Texas) meaning 3-5 in the MAC 2007 - 4-8; beat Army meaning, 3-5 in the MAC 2008 - 5-7; wins over Cuse and Army, meaning; 3-5 in the MAC 2009 - 3-9; win over Morgan St, meaning 2-6 in the MAC And if you break it down to MAC East games, its even worse, 2 wins over MAC east opponents in both 2006-7 and only 1 in both 2008-9. Brookhart's saving grace was AQ wins and beating Can't. He should have been canned after 08, but there was fear of a "bad first season at Infocision". I would prefer the above records over what we're going to have with Ianello. Sorry...neither are acceptable. If ICoach does not win next year then this rebuilding effort, and the pain that goes with it, will have been for nothing. Although I am patient...I expect 5-3 at the minimum next year in the MAC. And next year will be more difficult, the crossover games will include Toledo and N llinois.
  4. there's a good chance it wont rain, but it would be nice if they sold Akron ponchos at the gate That is the answer...sell cheap ponchos with Akron logo in the front and back. I bought a rain suit for my daughter and myself for the women's soccer games. There is no way someone uses an umbrella at a highly attended game without infringing on another Zips fans sight lines. CK has been spoiled by the info where there are so few fans you could put up a tailating tent and not intrude on anybody.
  5. Our standards have been conditioned to accept very low results. 3-9 is considered AVERAGE here. Probably true tho.
  6. Dang it, I actually believed this for a few seconds and then remembered what thread it was in. Yea... I wish it were true. I believe Suel and Chisolm are our 2 best players. By the way...who recruited those 2 guys?? Hate to lose Hasime too. My biggest concern going into the year was injuries because we did not have great depth. But it should have been our O-line. They use that "Olay" style of blocking. We need a talent upgrade and more depth. The one good think about O-lines is that some of these guys could improve dramatically with time and teaching. Time will tell.
  7. Marquelo Suel and Juwan Chisolm are both available for the Ohio game and both will be at 100%. We expect both to be integral to the offense against Ohio and for the remainder of our schedule. Also...we received good news regarding Hazime...he will given a medical redshirt by the NCAA and is eligible to play next year. Go Zips and thanks for your support. Oh yea...we are bringing back the golf outing next summer based on overwhelming support for the event.
  8. Now your getting it. I like when my team wins. Take a guess who my favorite QB at Akron was? I'll give you a hint, his last name starts with a "G." I am older than you. I was there when we lost in the finals of thr D2 championship. So my list to choose from is probably longer than yours. But I understand your point.
  9. Me too. The last result was disappointing to me too...just not as much as the rest of this forum. I root for the team I think can go the deepest in the tournament. It was NOT the RedHawks that year. The Zips have a better basketball program
  10. ESPN "guys" tried to fixed the flawed QB rating with their own. I have always gone by one rating for a QB...THE WIN COLUMN/CHAMPIONSHIPS. Some QBs are winners, while others are not. You probably would be high on Ken Dorsey, Matt Leinart and Tim Tebow and would not give much respect to Matt Cassel or Tom Brady based on their college body of work. Although I tend to agree with you, it is not always the case. It is not like we have an Iroc race where we can compare them under the same (or close to same) circumstances. If all the stats show one thing and the coaches decisions confirm those stats and the team supports the decision...they have my support. 1-5 trumps 1-20 every day of the week. Hopefully 1-5 improves dramatically or we get a new player in the game.
  11. If some are going...count me in. Planning to see the Massillon-Warren Harding game but it is in Thursday. I don't want be the only old, bald, fat guy standing on the sidelines Hey Doug, how do we know you're not scouting for Charlie? My first love are the Zips. Although I would love to see a Miami-Zip game for the MAC championship...I would do nothing to help or hurt the other side. And when I spent time with the coaches after the last practice, I told Dambrot and Peters I also graduated from Miami. They were OK with it.

  13. I brought one. I attend all the lady Zips games and have CA plates
  14. After the renewal deadline next summer, they have a couple of days where you can go to the stadium and pick out your seats. They mark the available seats with a piece of paper. This year, many trees were killed to make that happen. Unless the Zips have a big turn around, I'm sure there will be plenty available. I will be back in Bali by then. Maybe I can get someone to help me out. I will be donating the tickets I do have to some cause until I return.
  15. You said it, not me. What... that there is no "O" or are you suggesting something else??
  16. I have not seen any comments about one of the most glaring issues on Saturday. For someone who is considered a high NFL draft pick...Ty Hilton is the biggest sissy in D1 football I have ever seen. That boy not only runs out of bounds a yard before the hit...he goes to the ground before the hit too. Did not hear much of the game on the radio...but the little I did it seemed like it was a topic of conversation…Ty Hilton does not like to get hit. Sorry...looks like a fine receiver but he will never make it in the NFL. I hope the Jets or Giants draft him :-)
  17. There is really only one way to make sure the above doesn't happen...everyone with season tickets must cancel them and not renew until a change is made. I've been trying to get friends, family and even strangers to have interest in the Zips since the early 80's. Sadly, I can't even get myself to a game anymore. In all seriousness, I'm not sure I would even go if I were given free tickets. I can't believe I'm even saying this, but I can't take it anymore. The football program has become a joke and it makes me sick! buy Low...sell Hi. I am actually trying to buy good seats if people don't want to renew. I BELIEVE the Zips will turn it around and would like to get a group a tickets while great seats are attainable.
  18. #71 played on the O-line. How was that part f the ZIPS offense??
  19. l think most are closed but they will allow you to stay if you look like you are an Alumni. That is the feeling I got when I wathced a practice a few months ago. It was closed but I was allowed to stay. It was a great time and spent an hour after the pratice talking with the coaches. PM me if you want to go...I really enjoy the practices.
  20. I disagree. I don't think any unbaiased or sane person who watched the game an Saturday and could make that claim.
  21. You know...this probably started because I misread the initial chart. But please look at what I wrote...I was not being critical. It was more for informational purposes. I am financial guy good with numbers. Initially I thought he was comparing 5 games this year with 8 last year. Statistically...it would not make a difference. My point was that if you compare 5 with 8, some may think that the numbers may be manipulated for maximum effect. I do not think it was...and in fact it was not because he did make the 5 to 5 comparison. I love Bobbyake's passion for the soccer program and wish I had not made the initial mistake. But...I do not think I was being critical of the interpretation or his posting it. Again… Bobby I am sorry that I did not take the time to read carefully. This whole debate could/should have been avoided. The fault was all mine.
  22. Most in Akron. All of them in Ohio except for a few in Ypsilanti.
  23. I have news for you. We probably would have gottten shut out yesterday, if not for his individual effort to carry us to victory. I'd like to see his efficiency improve. He overthrew that ball in the end zone because he had to throw it early because he was about to get hit. I think everyone else in the stadium saw that. Moore is a better runner than passer. At this point, looking at that and how our offensive talent is distributed, the team would be best off running a Flexbone offense. Maybe so. Who knows when someone has played only a handful of games in their career. But in specifically addressing yesterday's game, his ability to elude rushers to get more time to throw, and his ability to use his feet to pick up yardage in open spaces downfield, are probably the only reasons that we put any points on the board at all yesterday. But again, his passing efficiency needs to get better, even though it still stacks up favorably to what we endured last year. It might seem hard to put that kind of pressure on a new QB when the OL has deteriorated into a complete disaster, and he is playing with such a green drop of receivers, but I still think any QB should be able to complete at least half of their passes under any circumstances....MINIMUM. I agree 50% is a minimum. But when 7 balls are batted down or deflected at the line of scrimmage (VMI game) it will be hard to complete 50%. I want to see how Moore develops and learns from mistakes. Yesterday only one ball was batted or deflected at the LOS (turned into an interception). He probably has never had to deal with finding passing lanes and throwing over defensive linemen. That is an issue this year. Let's see how he handles it. Based on yesterday...he is making progress. He was very aggressive on out/flat routes and was victimized by interceptions...especially in the Cincy game. Since then...I have seen him throw the ball away from defenders (down and away on out patterns) and on the outside shoulder on corner routes (Sconiers turned in against EMU and cost us a TD...but the throw was away from the defender and correct). It has eliminated interceptions (except for a deflected ball). For me...I see continued improvement. I see him go through his progression (when he has time) to find second and third receivers. What I think he needs to still improve on is looking defenders off the primary receiver and hitting his outlet receiver (usually RB) in stride to give better chance for yards after catch. BTW... throwing the ball down and away limits interceptions but reduces yards after catch. I did not see any yards after catch yesterday. But I did see some well throw balls downfield of more than 35-40 yards. Do not see the issue CK and Dr Z were talking about regarding YAC inflating his numbers. IMO…he has a strong enough arm for Div1 football.
  24. Statistically... you compare the first 5 games last year to the first 5 games this year ….or the average for ALL the games last year to ALL the games this year. Your analysis is flawed....but it probably does not make any difference. It does look like you are manipulating the data for your argument. FYI Here is a question for you. Do you think that the Zips football team would play in front of 66% capacity if they were the defending national champions?? The Soccer team did just that last night. ANSWER: No, odds of hitting 66% are small I'm not making any argument here in this thread, just showing the numbers. Hard to see how they're manipulated when this is all we have to compare with. You have the first 5 home games this year vs first 5 last year, then you have overall. All the data is given so you can make your own statistics if this boggles your mind. If you take only seating into account, Akron soccer is bringing in over 100% attendance for each game. Akron football will never win more than 2 games in a season with Ianello as the coach so why play what if's? Akron Football averaged 16,132 the year after they won the MAC championship and went to the Motor City Bowl. That is only 49% of the Rubber Bowl capacity for that year. BTW your question is flawed. You asked if Akron football would play in front of 66% capacity if they were the defending national champions. They would have to play in front of exactly 66% for the answer to be a yes. Whether they played in front of 80% or 50% wouldn't matter because exactly 66% is what you asked. It is easier to give a no answer given the odds of hitting exactly 66%. LOL You spent 76 words to make that argument about 66%. There were 13 home games (in Akron) last year. No argument in THIS TREAD?? How would one know?? You have been on this attendance crusade all season. Please don't put a list of games up and lots of data, averages and year over year increases if you ARE NOT using it to prove your point. If you expect me to do the math...let me know. You already did......you added up the words of the last argument. LOL Season attendance has grown, soccer is growing. What's not to like about these numbers? Nothing. I love it that soccer is doing so well. I have my Costa Rican friends in California following the Zips now because of Brenes. But why use one Zip program as a basis to denigrate another??
