No problem. I love your enthusiasm. Part of my discussion stems from discussions during last basketball season where some forum members think it is right and OK to isolate and ridicule fans that do not participate. So...when you use the word "isolate" I may be assuming something your did not mean. If you go the women's soccer games as you say you do...you will surely will see me with my 3 year old daughter. We go to all the games where it is not raining. (we are not chanting :-). Stop by an introduce yourself. I might of seen you walking by us in the 2nd half on sunday. We were behind EMU's goalie. In fact, my vuvuzela got thrown over to the practice field by the EMU lady in the white shirt that was taking photos. She thought it was unsportsmanlike to be blowing the vuvuzelas during the women's soccer match. Yea...I remember her. My daughter likes to spread out a blanket for a picnic. We were picnicing on the sidewalk next to the field. She was all excited because she could be seen in the 'scoring" videos. Just a pink blurr tho...but it is easy to get a 3yo excited. the vuvuzelas are great.

Alienating them is one thing....isolating them is another. I am all in favor of passionate fans and students but isolating and ridiculing other Zips fans is rather...pathetic. Work to get your group in a separate section if you don't like to sit with less enthusiastic fans. Get a group to sow up early and mark of your section if the school will not do it for you. The plan should be to make things enjoyable that others will join in. But if they don't...leave them alone. Go Zips Go Rowdies That's the problem...We've done things to get them involved. They just don't want to put the effort in. But then when it gets time to tournament time, they want a ticket, and we try to give it to the ones we know will get that place an advantage for us. Then we give it out to the others with the tickets we have left. It's strictly business come playoff time. Same with basketball. I just don't get what you want from us Doug Snyder. I'm hearing it's sad that OSU's 100 students were louder than our 1,800+ students, but yet you want to keep us together with the students that are diluting the sound of the Rowdies. What do you want us to do? We can please everyone. We're there for the soccer team. Not to make students happy... First... I would like for you to take a moment and read what I write. I repeatedly have said that you should get together so that your voices will be heard and maximized. I also said that I appreciate passionate fans and students...it is what makes student life great. But you will never, EVER see me write or say that you, or anyone, should disrespect other Zip fans. It really is that simple. Be a fan...be as loud as you want...get as many involved as you can. But respect other Zip fans. Simple. And if you have done things to get them involved and they choose not to be involved...leave them alone. If you sit in the same section all the time people will understand that is where the Rowdies sit and it is loud and crazy and fun. If they don't want to participate...they will find other areas to sit. That is why many avoid your areas in basketball (or so I read). I don't want this to come off like I don't like the Rowdies...I do. It is great to see such passionate fans for the team I love.

Same here man. Sometimes I spend just as much energy yelling at other students as I spend yelling at the goalkeeper. Then they just stare at me like I'm an idiot. We have the strength of 2,000 students for about the first 5-10 minutes and then it just tapers off. Once we get a lead it gets worse and then we try to come back after we get scored on. I wish I could make everyone care more. Attendance records are awesome, and nothing in the world looks more impressive than looking on the hill and seeing it packed with students. But if only some of us are going to cheer, I'd rather the rest leave so at least those of us trying to support our team would be close together and more capable of coordinating chants. You get your wish in Football. I am for ALL students and fans coming to the games. It may be better for Rowdies to get their own section to keep the voices close and to max decibel. But let's not have a litmus test to be a Zips fan. We need everybody

We are talking about North Canton. Are there any bad "hoods" in North Canton?? I guess I could feel some sympathy for someone who may be forced to steal to feed their family. But the sexual assault goes beyond where I can muster up any sympathy. I hope it was a case of mistakedn identity....otherwise I say "lock him up".

Did you REALLY write that comment? That looks like something out of the Suckeyes own message board! The kid who has his lunch money stolen by the neighborhood bully never considers the bully his rival. When he does, he might stop getting robbed! Wow. You didn't take my comment too far out of context did you? I have no problem with anyone bashing whoever they want. My comment was simply counterpoint to the criticism of Flashbashing. However, the Buckeyes are definitely NOT our rival. Hate them as much as you want. Root against them as much as you want. But it's not a rivalry. Not in football. But in soccer?? Definetely YES

I don't know if it makes their job easier, but his abilities certainly make the o-line look a lot better than it is. He hits seams harder and faster than any RB we've had since Hendry. If Dennis Kennedy had that mindset, he'd have been in the NFL. Now if we could only get a QB that makes our OL look a lot better than it is... I do think it could help the line. If they were blocking for Keener...they would have to open a 5-6 foot hole and keep it open for about 45 seconds. The Chisel only needs a small crease and often times not even that. Since he is a slasher and good at cut backs...he can often make something of nothing (a really good quality considering the current state of our line). But the biggest thing will be the attitude and confidence the line will get over time. Knowing you have a great back behind you makes you want to get that hole for him. So...I do believe we will have a good/great line eventually. The Chisel, Rossi and Alexander will be here for a while and all are talented...and complimentary. I think we will be a good running team. That should help our passing game to. Not sure what impact it will have on our kicking game though

Have you seen him close up?? He definitely is Chiseled.

Rossi as "Hammer" would also work if he ever switched to defense.

Man....you have been living in NE Ohio for to long lol From Kelly's Heroes: (Oddball) Always with the negative waves Moriarty, always with the negative waves.

@Keener Man...you got a get a picture of a pitbull barfing...or at least a Lab. Or say your wife/girlfriend read the story and barfed if you are going to use that picture of a sweet little kity!!!

I saw this kind of crap versus Fullerton and it was not a pretty sight. I only heard the audio of the Fullerton match. However bad that was, expect worse from OSU. From the coach on down, OSU hates that Akron is better. This is our biggest rivalry, Bisbee. And don't let any of the brainwashed OSWho fans tell you that it's not true. They wouldn't bring two busloads of fans up here if they were not desperately trying to avoid allowing the state of Ohio to know that Akron is superior to the athletic program that spends tons of money to try to BUY titles. This raises a pretty good question for me. I don't know too much about other college sports, and I don't know a ton about the athletic programs of the other schools in Ohio, but lets be honest, Ohio State is either great or just really good at almost everything. Could someone answer this for me: Do you think our soccer team is the only athletic program from Ohio that is better than Ohio State at the same sport? I was just wondering if like Bowling Green had a killer women's golf team or something. If not, it's no wonder this makes them mad. I know, being someone who grew up in central Ohio surrounded by the people who worship Ohio State without having set foot on their campus, that being better than them at a sport feels good. It probably sucks for them and I love that. Just wondering if we were the only Ohio school that has that distinction. Miami hockey program is better....but the gap is not as big as the soccer programs at UofA and OSU.

That could be good. If Rossi is as good as most people think...he could be "Hammer". We could have a "Hammer and Chisel" backfield

From Miami info: Head Coach: Charlie Coles (15th Season at Miami; 21st Season Overall) Associate Head Coach: Jermaine Henderson Assistant Coaches: Jason Grunkemeyer and Jimmy Lallathin Director of Operations: Nick Dials Student Assistant Coach: Antonio Ballard Athletic Trainer: Mike Young http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/mioh/s...1Supplement.pdf (pg 5) It is an informative supplement. Do the Zips put our anything similar?? I knew Dials was with Miami. Having graduated from Miami....I was glad to see him there. I was unaware that he was a volunteer last year. But if I could give anyone advice (and they would take it) is that giving up a few years of earning to follow you heart is the right thing to do. Money will come. I hope he finds success...I am already impressed by his dedication.

More like "J Train". But he does not run like a train.... he has great peripheral vision and is a slasher. Or how about something from the Chisholm Trail??. I was playing off of the old, jazz standard "Take the A Train", with the A being for Akron. But like the saying goes, if you have to explain it then it probably sucks (I took some liberty with the last part). well...that changes things. I think it should be "J Train". We can use the music from your song..."J" and "A" sound a like so it will be very easy.

If we can be RESPECTABLE on kickoffs...we win a tight game. Otherwise we lose.

Will the Zips Pick Up Their First Victory
Doug Snyder replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
Dr. Z It would b nice if you did one of these for every MAC game. -
I've already stated many times that I would absolutely PASS on Winters, and have stated why. And I was pretty much done with the topic again until I saw this. So, because Keith was an "Akron Guy" and has done very well with the basketball program, we could predict Winters future success because he is an "Akron Guy" too? First, there is no comparison between Keith and Winters, in many, many ways, including that one was a previous D-1A MAC head coach, and the other has D-II as his highest level of head coaching experience. Secondly, I am completely puzzled as to why some people continue to use "He's an Akron Guy" as his big qualifying criteria. We've had this discussion many times among long-time friends and supporters. And I can tell you, the overwhelming consensus among the people I know is that we would want the best coach....period....whether he hails from Akron or from Alaska. Maybe we should have passed on Caleb since he wasn't an "Akron Guy" There is a difference. Soccer was already an elite program when Caleb took over. He took it to the next level. 1. Basketball was a program in decline and not winning. Easy risk to take by hiring an "Akron" guy. 2. Baseball is a program in decline and not winning. Easy risk to take by hiring an "Akron" guy. 3. Let's assume ICoach fails and must be replaced. I am all in favor of getting the best guy to do the job. But Bowden is a D1AA guy...so he does not impress me. Unless you can get a Solich type (Tressel??) than I am in favor of giving Paul Winters a shot before some untried assistant. But this is NOT going to happen...ICoach will succeed!!!! The power of positive thinking This is confusing, but I am just trying to understand why you'd state that you wouldn't take one guy because he is only a D-1AA coach, but you are in favor of the other guy who is coaching at a lower level than that? And, since Bowden's name is not frequently mentioned, you may not know that he actually coached here at one time earlier in his career. Bowdens' name was thrown around a lot in our last search. I like him personally but do not think he is a great coach. There are 4 types of coaches to choose from.. 1. HC from lower levels. 2. Current assistant from BCS school 3. HC from lower level D! (not many lower though) 4. Older retread like Solich from D1. Really...I think all can be successful. I think my preference would be a HC from D1AA who spent some time as an assistant at a D1 school (I know...Bowden fits that description). But..hiring a successful coach at our level will be a risky decision. It is hard enough at schools like OSU and Michigan where they can choose from anyone. We have to take a risk on someone that has yet to prove anything at our level (or on someone that may be old and lost his edge). My reasoning with Paul Winters is that he has been successful, been a OC at a D1 school, is a local guy and graduated from Akron. It is a risk...but a risk I would take.

They met that!!!! Are you going to keep your end??? No more negativity until Thursday?? What is the over under on your next negative football post. We will give you a hall pass for today’s posts because no one pointed it out or reminded you. Now...you are on the clock.

the game winning fieldgoal against Marshall was a great experience as well. Sad truth is, I believe next year will be just as bad if not worse than this year. Let's be honest....you predicted they will be 1-11 this year. If they finish by winning 5 games this year...I believe ICoach will have more credibility as a coach than you will have as a prognosticator. We will soon find out about this year. Stay tuned. Bobbyake: 1-11 iCantCoach was a huge mistake and we'll suffer for it over the next few years.

Ladies Goal from Sunday
Doug Snyder replied to GoZipsGoZips's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I was there with my 3yo daughter. The goal by Kelly DeNiro I thought was more impressive. Power kick and pinpoint accuracy. I can see why she takes the corner kicks. My daughter calls her “my friend” because she met her last Saturday at the Eastern Illinois game. Actually…we first met her mother and played with Kelly’s dog Bailey during the break so my daughter now considers them friends. I think it is pretty cool. And DeNiro scored in both games. She will be expecting goals at the next home games from Kelly…we will be there. LOL My daughter hates leaving the field and wants the game to continue. The Lady Zips have found an avid fan in my daughter. -
As I've said before, if this so-called "phantom attendance" was an acceptable practice, EMU wouldn't be reporting 5,000 average attendance for football. The NCAA allows each school to determine its own method of calculating attendance. EMU may be reporting only fans in the seats, which is really the only honest way to do it. As long as it consistent...I could care less. I really don't think attendance figures should be a criteria for D1. Miami Florida draws poorly...but they had great teams. Small school in a upscale enclave surrounded by poor depressed areas predominantly Hispanic (not the right style of futbol) keeps their attendance figures low. Who cares...if the school wants to compete at that level and they can compete...why should there be attendance requirements??
