Thank you to Charlotte, Dayton and Vermont for taking care of business today.... Zips need to beat teams like IU-Indy and Temple next year......so the team and fans are not sweating it out next year on the weekend before selection Monday. -

If FIU does end up beating Charlotte, there would be 12 league winners with RPI’s above 40. logically, that would say that the top 16 seeds and the 16 teams hosting Thursday night games would be comprised of the 10 league winners with high RPI’s and 22 at large teams with RPI’s below the low 30’s. if the zips are one of the last 4, they will probably be on the road against a team with an RPI between 29 and 32. Western Michigan and Michigan ( if they lose Big Ten title game) could be likely opponents -

I was listening also and the announcers were really questioning why the Zips did not sub. If you look at box score, Georgetown subs played 302 minutes against the Zips Zips subs played 107 minutes and it probably would have been under 50 minutes if Emil and Ashton did not get hurt After Ashton got hurt, Daragh played 43 minutes After Emil got hurt, Nathan Ferguson and Conor Filsinger combined to play 23 minutes. Zips were clearly exhausted at the end of the game. If the Zips get in, they will have to play on Thursday and Sunday if they want to get to the sweet 16. I would love to see Maximus Barboto and James Buebendorf get playing time on Thursday night. Nicolas Beier, Daniel Firek, Stefan Dobrijevic and Simon Guardiero are also quality players. -

You never know what the NCAA committee is going to do......... As NYCZIP pointed out, AKron, NC State, UCLA, Western Michigan can all be impacted by teams on their schedule....still playing UCLA lost to Michigan on PK's in semis....so UCLA might get a bump tomorrow if Michigan upsets Ohio State Akron could get a bump if Georgetown wins Western Michigan has a win over Vermont...so they might see a bump with a Vermont win UNCG has ties with Charlotte and West Virginia...so they would probably benefit from those 2 teams winning According to NCAA.com.....below are the games schedule for tomorrow Michigan vs. Ohio State 3 pm Big Ten Network Wake Forest vs. Clemson noon ESPNU St. Louis vs. Dayton noon....... Long Island U. vs. Fairleigh Dickinson noon FIU vs. Charlotte 1 pm Georgetown vs. Providence noon - fox sports 2 Rider vs. Iona 1 pm Princeton vs. Penn 1 pm Bryant vs. Vermont 1 pm Marshall vs. West Virginia 1 pm Furman vs. ETSU 2 pm -

they dominated game.... but it was a huge fluke goal own goal at 80 minutes.... UNCW center back tried to head it back to GK GK was further away from goal than the CB thought and the headed back ball went over the GK's head for a goal Great result for the zips.... -

#68 Gardner Webb just defeated High Point (they were at #38 when game was going on) 2-1 Gardner Webb gets the automatic bid for the big South and jumps from #68 to #48 in RPI High Point drops from #38 to #40....and currently is on the wrong side of the cut line Cal Santa Barbara moves to 39 Bucknell beat Colgate 3-0 to get Patriot League bid. Nothing is going easy for the Zips in key games - #4 Hofstra...is tied 0-0 at 60 minutes with UNCW (currently #75) -

well, that is not a good way to start the weekend of key games Kansas city is showing as #21 RPI (at 6:30) Denver only drops from 2 to 3 As NYCZIP mentioned, Akron dropped from 34 to 35 UCLA drops from 37 to 39....as one of their impressive results was 0-0 against Denver Gaucho Dan currently shows Cal Santa Barbara (40 ) as last team out UCLA (39) as last team in St. Louis (37) as 2nd to last team in...St. Louis will knock the zips a spot down if St. Louis beats Dayton tomorrow UNC-Greensboro (36) - 3rd to last Akron (35) is 4th to last NC State at 34 Princeton at 33....if they beat Penn tomorrow...more bad news for zips Western Michigan at 32 -

If the Zips get in, the Committee will probably rank them.....in the 33 to 36 range..... which means that Akron will be on the road as they are not in the top 32 could possibly play on the road at a team ranked between 29 to 32 If Ohio State knocks off Michigan in Big Ten title, Michigan could drop from current ranking of 27.... Zips might get sent to play Michigan.......with the winner of that game....having to play on Sunday at #3 RPI Pittsburgh The NCAA always likes to match up rivals that no longer play each other. Zips could be sent to play at Western Michigan.....with the winner of that game....then having to play Sunday at #1 RPI Ohio State At this point, we all just want the Zips to get in. If they get in, it is going to be a brutally tough draw. -

good comments...I am also rooting for #28 Charlotte to knock off #62 FIU tomorrow a Georgetown win tomorrow also would not hurt. I will be watching on FS2. NCAA.com scoreboard says that the Denver game starts at 5 eastern today...and that Hofstra starts at 7 eastern. -

UC Davis gets the league automatic bid...and moves up to #52 UC Santa Barbara drops down to #40...... Akron at #34....will get an at large bid......much more easily than UC Santa Barbara at #40 these are the 2 finals....to really watch on Saturday Summit League Saturday final #2 Denver vs. #38 Kansas City Coastal Athletic Saturday final #4 Hofstra vs. #76 UNCW -

Ivy League semifinals today rankings shown as of midnight...thursday night #6 Penn defeated #79 Brown 2-1 on golden goal in 94th minute ranking changes after match Penn moves to #5... Georgetown drops from #5 to 6 at midnight last night...all of the games were done UCLA was #33 and Akron was #34 after the Penn vs. brown game was completed, the RPI rank for UCLA and Akron changed.....(to Akron's benefit) UCLA and Brown....had common opponents.... Akron RPI improved from #34 to #33 UCLA RPI dropped from #33 to #37 the 2nd IVY league semi just finished.... the result was not helpful for Akron #20 Cornell jumped out to a 2-0 lead against #44 Princeton #44 Princeton stormed back....and just won 3-2 on a golden goal at 103:41 Princeton will play Penn on Sunday for Ivy League title Cornell will still get into tournament despite losing tonight Penn will still get into the tournament...even if they don't win on Sunday With Princeton at 44...I thought that they would have to win the IVY league tournament to steal a bid.... RPI just updated....after Princeton win Cornell dropped to #23 in RPI after the loss Princeton jumped all the way from #44 to #32...with the win over high RPI team Princeton win...caused Fordham and Western Michigan...to switch places. Fordham is now 30 and Western Michigan dropped to 31 NC State dropped from 32 to 33 Akron dropped from 33 to 34 -
I can't answer your question.....but one site had interesting info .....on 2 brothers being all americans Louis immigrated with his family from North Macedonia, then Yugoslavia, when he was thirteen years old. His family settled in Akron, Ohio, where he attended Central-Hower High School. After high school, he attended the University of Akron where he played as a forward on the men's soccer team from 1974 to 1977. He and his brother George were top players with the Zips. Both Louie and George earned first team All American honors in 1976. This was the first time in NCAA history that two brothers received first team recognition the same year. Louie then garnered second team honors in 1977.

After a few hours sleep.....let's try to look at RPI in terms of last team in (If the committed goes completely by RPI).... obviously, lots of unknowns...and the RPI positions will change for UC Santa Barbara, High Point, St. Louis and Kansas City ...the teams still playing #28 Charlotte would drop into the 30's if they lose (FIU would steal a bid by winning that league) #26 Vermont would drop into the 30's if they lose (Bryant would steal a bid by winning that league) Would Charlotte and Vermont RPI's drop below Akron if they lose ? I have no idea 😧 I said last night that the last team...was currently #40...which is George Mason let's look at 30 thru 40 #30 Western Michigan - regular season over #31 Fordham - regular season over #32 NC State - regular season over #33 UCLA - Regular season over #34 Akron - Regular season over #35 UNC Greensboro - Regular season over #36 UC Santa Barbara - will play UC Davis for Big West automatic Bid #37 St. Louis - Will play #7 Dayton for Atlantic 10 automatic bid #38 Kansas City - will play #2 Denver for Summit league bid #39 High Point - will play Gardner Webb for Big South Title #40 George Mason I will say that UC Santa Barbara and High Point...both win their automatic spots their RPI will probably jump a little...will they jump over #34 Akron? Not relevant for Akron's at large bid if they both lose, they will probably drop out of top 40...and not be a challenge to Akron for at large bid St. Louis and Kansas City if they both lose to top 10 teams, they will probably see a slight drop in RPI....and will be much less of a threat to Akron's at large bid if they both win, Dayton and Denver get at large bids..and the cut line drops to 38 both teams will jump over Akron in RPI..and Akron drops from 34 to 36. what are currently the last teams in...if RPI is exactly followed (again, zips strong end of season should make them favorable to RPI position (in my biased opinion 😎) last team in.....George Mason at #40 2nd to last team in - #38 Kansas City (if they lose league final) 3rd to last team in - #37 St. Louis (if they lose to Dayton) 4th - #35 UNC-G 5th to last team in - #34 Akron A georgetown win over Providence in league final and Ohio State win over Michigan (UCLA tied Michigan in Big Ten semis)...might help Akron jump UCLA in actual RPI. -
https://guhoyas.com/news/2024/11/14/mens-soccer-godinhos-golden-goal-propels-hoyas-past-akron.aspx very nice quotes by Georgetown head coach Brian Wiese (FYI....Georgetown first 3 non-league games were against current RPI #3 Pitt, #24 Maryland and #35 UNC-Greensboro). They also played another top 20 RPI team - Cornell Head Coach Brian Wiese "With a few injuries coming in that we needed to manage, we used a ton of our roster today. We saw guys step up. Miles Avery came in for Tate (Lampman) when he couldn't go and played fantastic. Aidan Godinho with the goal which was so deserved with the way he has been playing. The list goes on and on seeing guys come in and do the job, especially against a team like Akron. We have the hardest strength of schedule in the country and Akron is far and away the best team we've seen. To find a way to persevere through that was good to see. We're back in the final, and we'll see if we can finish the job."

OK.....more midnight ramblings from me..... Z.I.P. in Hawaii is probably the only one up reading this....... When I did my analysis on early Monday morning.......the cut line for getting into the tournament....was 40... since then, Missouri State was upset...we thought that dropped the cut line to #39 However, the very smart and alert NYCZIP let us know that current #29...Cal could not participate in the NCAA tourney that means that #40 George Mason is currently the last team in...... NYCZIP has done a few posts....where he points out that Akron fans....definitely want Dayton and Vermont and Charlotte to win their league title games Let's look at the key games.......where a team could steal a bid.....and hurt Akron's chances of getting in all rankings are as of midnight ...Friday morning...November 15th Summit League Saturday final #2 Denver vs. #38 Kansas City obviously, zips fans.....want Denver to win that game Coastal Athletic Saturday final #4 Hofstra vs. #76 UNCW a UNCW win would not help the Zips Ivy League - Friday night semifinals #6 Penn vs #79 Brown #20 Cornell vs. #44 Princeton Akron fans do not want Brown or Princeton to win the Ivy League title Big East - Friday night final I don't think that this will affect Akron at large status....but I will list it anyway I think that a Cal Santa Barbara loss...would cause them to drop many spots below Akron I think that UCSB only gets in by winning the league #36 Cal Santa Barbara vs. #69 UC Davis OK...down to 3 leagues....2 played their semis on Wednesday....other played semi on Thursday Finally, let's look at 3 conferences...where NYCZIP has already given us a headsup...on who to root for American East League final on Sunday #26 Vermont vs. #63 Bryant Atlantic 10 final on Sunday #7 Dayton vs. #37 St. Louis I agree with NYCZIP that St. Louis probably only gets in the tournament with a win in the final American Athletic final on Sunday #28 Charlotte vs #61 FIU if all 6 leagues (excluding the Big West) are won by Bid-stealers, the zips at #34....are probably in huge trouble for making the tournament It would help Akron to have Georgetown win the big EAST...as Akron played them twice and Akron did not play Providence Finally, let's look at some other teams currently around Akron's #34 in RPI I have already given my thoughts on #30 Western Michigan and #32 NC State #31 Fordham from the Atlantic 10 they lost in league semis to a very good Dayton team finished the season with a 8-5-5 record Fordham was 4-2-2 in last 8 games 5-3-4 in in last 12 games #35 UNC-Greensboro from the Southern Conference Southern Conference is the 14th ranked league UNC-G lost on PK's in conference semis #33 UCLA from the Big Ten finished their season with 7-5-6 record one of their wins is over Division 2 Westmont...so they are 6-5-6 for NCAA consideration lost in tournament semis on PK's to Michigan their RPI is propped up by #12 strength of schedule and #8 opponent strength of schedule they are being helped greatly by having a 2-1 win over Ohio State and a 0-0 tie with #2 Denver UCLA has a record of 3-2-3 in last 8 games Similar to Akron, they have a few losses to teams out of the top 40 3-1 loss to #89 Cal State Fullerton 1-0 loss to #80 Michigan State (MSU had 5-7-5 record) 4-1 loss to #46 Wisconsin -

I am going to get on my soapbox....... The NCAA soccer committee is supposed to consider strongly....how a team ended the year.... they are supposed to consider the team's last 8 games Let's do 2 comparisons for Akron vs. 2 teams above them in RPI Western Michigan - #30 in RPI currently vs. Akron #34 currently in RPI the two teams met during the season at Western Michigan....2 teams played to a tie Western Michigan - last 4 games of the season 0-0 tie with Bradley....Bradley had a record of 4-7-2 at that time 3-0 loss to Bowling Green.....Bowling Green was #60 in RPI when this week started 2-1 win over 7-10-0 UIC in the MVC conference quarterfinals, WMU lost 2-1 to Evansville (#82 in RPI at the start of the week) WMU did not even make the tournament semis in the MVC...the 7th toughest league.... Akron went 7-0-1 regular season in the Big East....the 5th toughest league... Akron lost in the semis in OT to the current #5 team in RPI in last 12 games, Akron was 10-1-1 ...with only loss coming to high RPI Georgetown If I am on NCAA committee, Akron gets in before Western Michigan (I might be a tad biased 😁)...but the eye test, and the logic favor Akron NC State - #32 currently in RPI vs. Akron #34 currently in RPI with Cal ineligible to get into the tournament, NC State would be the 9th ACC team in the 48 team field Do you take 8 at large teams from the ACC and snub the undefeated regular season champ from the Big East? To be politically correct, I say heck, no. NC State lost in the round of 16 in the ACC tournament let's look at end of the season results for NC State 3-2-3 record in the last 8 games 3-4-3 record in the last 10 games Same strengths for Akron ...10-1-1 in last 12....with one loss to #5 RPI team regular season undefeated Big East champs.... again, If I am on NCAA committee, Akron gets in before the 10th best team in the ACC (9th best team , Cal is not eligible) -

the world's greatest expert....Gaucho Dan has confirmed that Cal at #29 in RPI....can not make the NCAA tournament Gaucho Dan : Clemson hung on to eliminate Cal and set up an ACC final with Wake Forest. Cal finishes with a losing record vs. Division I and is, thus, ineligible for the NCAA Tournament. -

great observation.... they played the Dominican Penguins....and they are a division 2 school https://calbears.com/news/2024/9/16/mens-soccer-bears-thrash-penguins-5-0.aspx -
Akron has been horribly thin all year at outside back.....ever since the Temple game (when James Buebendorf stopped getting playing time). Daragh held his own in the last 35 minutes after Ashton got hurt. When Josh came out of the game in OT, it appeared that midfielder/Forward Stefan Dobrijevic had to come in and play right back....... I hope that all of the injured players....Emil, Ashton and Josh......are healthy for the NCAA tournament. Georgetown is #5 in RPI....and Akron battled them on even terms for 98 minutes this team deserves a spot in the NCAA.
