  1. Whoaaaaa. Someone asked a question about who Winters might POSSIBLY look to add to a hypothetical staff at Akron. Don't pin MY LAME A$$ attempt to research said staff on Winters. Why don't you wait to see if he's hired and assembles his own to do that. And by "barely above the high school" level, I assume you mean D-II. Now, not only are head coaches at D-II worthless pieces of $hiT but so are any and all the assistants who work at that level. If that's your opinion, so be it. It's definitely not mine. Go Zips!
  2. ITZ mentioned this before, but a good possibility for DC is current Wayne St DC John Hauser. He has a MAC bloodline, coming from NIU. With Paul having an offensive background, one would think he leans on Hauser heavily for defensive tactics and gameplanning. Current Wayne St recruiting coordinator and DL coach Scott Kazmierski seems to come up in stories about recruiting some of the better known players for Wayne St. I could see him coming along too. Wayne St RB coach and former YSU star Trent Boykin could also find his way back to Akron. He was a grad assistant here in 1996-97. It's hard to argue with TWO, one-thousand yard rushers in a season (Davis and Renel). And while this next guy will surely make the Owens haters cringe, I'm firmly in the camp that believes the offense in those days was perfectly fine. Did they get a little conservative at times when you wished they hadn't? Sure. But all in all they performed admirably, especially against quality competition. So without further adieu I give you Tom Stacy, current RB coach at Ashland and previous QB coach at Akron when Winters was OC. While I'm against bringing too many of the old LO gang back, I don't think it would be bad to selectively add someone like Tom.
  3. Au contraire. He's somehow managed to get Buckzip and skip-zip to wholeheartedly agree on something. That's worthy of a Nobel Peace prize nomination
  4. George Thomas' first offering in a while is a about what you'd expect. There is little "new" and at least one "not quite right" statement. Winter's may have built Wayne St from next to nothing, but he didn't build it "from scratch".
  5. What if Winters says "I ain't working for that guy", and stays are Wayne State? Still happy with TW? I could see Winters staying in Detroit. If he keeps winning, better offers will likely come. Maybe even this year? His $275,000 2012 salary buys you a really sweet house in Detroit now-a-days. Way better than what you can get in Fairlawn. And it might give him some personal satifaction to say "no" to the guy that spurned him for i-Legend 3 years ago. "I ain't saving that dude's bacon" is a quote I could imagine being attributed to Winters in an upcoming Elton Alexander column. I guess, since YouTube Tom has shut off all discussions with the media on this topic (per today's PD), we'll just have to wait and see what transpires. And speculate. I thought that came off as a somewhat awkwardly worded myself. I think you can make yourself unavailable without announcing to the world that you're unavailable
  6. @ Skip We understand that you're not impressed by D-II football. But you do realize that Lake Erie College is one of the most recent new members in all of D-II (joined in 2010). They're anything but a typical D-II program. And since you continue to discredit all of D-II, I thought it might be interesting to take a look a the history of the D-II championship game. There sure are some familiar names in that link, numerous programs that are now in either FBS or FCS. My point is that history says the cream of D-II frequently have proven their worth by not only performing well in the D-II playoffs, but also by making a leap into a higher division with various levels of success. I also think it's interesting that Paul Winters has already matched his earliest mentor, by qualifying for the D-II championship game. And he did it at a school with far less of a football tradition. MTXE still works!!! Go Zips!!!
  7. WSU will be playing a traditional D-2 power, Pittsburg St (Kansas), in the final.
  8. +1 Listening to the announcers, I believe this is what they said about all four teams WSU has beaten on the road: 1) St Cloud St hadn't lost a home game in 15 games 2) Nebraska-Kearney hadn't lost a home game in over 2 years 3) Defending national champion Minn-Duluth hadn't lost a home game in 17 or 18 games? 4) Winston-Salem was, of course, previously undefeated Wow!
  9. Warrior punt downed on 6 yard line. 2:04 to go
  10. You can listen live HERE.
  11. WSU converts 3rd and 9
  12. 5:09 left WSU ball at midfield, up 21-14
  13. Sweet! Keep the updates coming, please! In case ITZ in unable to get back to us, ESPN has the game on their D-II/III scoreboard. It's a little behind the action however. And sorry for the bad information earlier. I made a poor assumption that the NCAA web site would also carry this game.
  14. It absolutely sucks losing to CSU. Only losses to K.E.N.T. hurt any more than this. But at least the end result was a huge upgrade from what we've experienced lately. Hopefully the Zips can take the good from today, eliminate or minimize the bad, and get on a roll heading into MAC play.
  15. I'd guess he is considering it as seriously as he normally would. The reason why I put it that way was because of the reports that he was fine with talking to UA, but not really interested in the position. I don't have any sources to cite for this, just the conversation that has taken place on ZNO. I'm merely speculating that he may have thought he had a shot at the UCLA HC job when he (supposedy) conveyed that he wasn't really interested in the UA job.
  16. UCLA hires Jim Mora Jr as HC. With interim HC Mike Johnson getting bypassed, does this possibly cause him to consider Akron more seriously?
  17. Oh yeah, well we're averaging one new suspension a week so we have that going for us. But seriously, that is a pretty impressive win over your crosstown rivals Now if you beat them in football by 22 I'd be REALLY impressed
  18. If Charlotte can pull off one more win, that will make 3 straight years in which the Zips have either won it all or been eliminated by the eventual champion.
  19. This Orlando Sentinel article only lists Chuck Martin as a "possible replacement", oddly enough.
  20. As a direct result of Houston's move to the Big East, Mack will soon oversee the construction of another new stadium.
  21. All of us should emply the same, strict, off-season training regimen that you do, Keener Let's hope the 2012 Zips are just as dedicated in the weight room
  22. Franco's Tyrone HS takes on perennial Pennsylvania power Aliquippa in a state AA semi-final.
  23. Things have changes a bit ( ) since this story first surfaced, but Crist is now officially available. But it looks like he'll most likely wind up at Wisconsin, Utah, or San Diego St. Kansas would appear to be the frontrunner for Crist now.
  24. As expected, Matt Campbell is named interim head coach for Toledo as they face Air Force in the Military Bowl.
