  1. While Toledo is not yet good, they don't appear to be the horrible mess they've been for the last few years. After all, their new coach HAS won a game at the JAR.
  2. Any chance Paul can bring Rob (Fournier) along?
  3. While it's stories like THIS which reaffirm, in my mind, that Rob needed to go, I do wonder how much hesitation his firing (after only 2 years) is causing among all head coaches UA is courting.
  4. Detroit News article.
  5. It was reminiscent of the 2005 MCB with all of those Cajuns there for ULL's 1st bowl appearance. The crowd of +42,000 (probably 80% for ULL) set a New Orleans Bowl record. I sure hope we can get back to another bowl before too many years have passed.
  6. Nice post! I think you summarized much of why I think Winters is a good fit at this time.
  7. Still a realy nice playoff run for WSU. If Winters comes here, I hope he works to develop more than one go-to WR. Losing Burrell really hampered their chances today.
  8. Warriors still fighting, despite losing Burrell and Renel. Down 27-21 with a litte over 5 minutes left.
  9. Getting away from WSU. Will be tough for them to comeback in the 2nd half. Wouldn't be surprised to see an onside kick to start the 2nd half.
  10. ESPN2 Theses officials aren't too hot.
  11. #8 Jeremy Jones is a heckuva football player.
  12. I'm glad he finally quit calling him Paul Winter, too
  13. Nice, powerful drive to take back the lead and calm the team down. 14-10 WSU
  14. Handed the Mo right back with their own INT and subsequent Pitt St score. 7-7. Looks like it will be a real challenge to slow Pitt St on offense.
  15. Thanks for the scoops, gz19!
  16. He's a defensive end.
  17. Congrats! I'm sure he's pleased to be back at his alma mater. He'll have a challenge there for sure, as the Patriot League has been a difficult place for Fordham with the likes of Colgate, Lehigh and Lafayette usually setting the standard.
  18. Mike Huguenin of Rivals picks the MAC to go 5-0!!
  19. Nice
  20. A report from EA of the OD. This summarizes a lot of what has already been cited here regarding PW's turnaround at Wayne State. It does mention a little about his ability to recruit in NE Ohio.
  21. Wow. I hear you. It looks like the Lions are sleeping tonight
  22. And it's official.
  23. BTW, FootballScoop is saying that Turner Gill is taking the HC job at Liberty. All of these stories wind up weeving in and out of one another at some point
  24. I saw the same article that mentioned Wayne State’s football budget is $195,000. I believe it was in on a Crain’s Business web site which won’t allow you to provide a link. But if you Google “wayne state” and “195000”, you’ll find it. For most schools that offer football, the football budget is usually around 30%-50% of the overall athletic budget. If we assume 30% for Wayne State, then their overall athletic budget is in the neighborhood of 195,000/0.3 = $650,000. How does this compare with other D-II schools? I found this information on Minnesota-Crookston. They are in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), the same conference as St Cloud State and Minnesota-Duluth, two teams Wayne State has beaten in the playoffs. The link indicates Minnesota-Crookston’s overall athletic budget in 2006 was $1,700,000. The link also mentions that this is the lowest in the NSIC. Finally, the link state’s the average overall budget in the NSIC is $2,600,000. For another glimpse into D-II athletic budgets, I found this information on North Alabama (Terry Bowden’s school, which is contemplating a move to FCS). This link states that North Alabama’s overall athletic budget will need to increase by $3,000,000 to a total of $7,500,000 for a possible move to FCS. Thus, the current (D-II) budget is $4,500,000. What does all of this mean? I’d say it’s pretty clear that Winters has been able “do more with less” at WSU. That seems like a pretty attractive quality to have for a prospective head coach at UA. I’ll throw in this caveat. The $195,000 football budget number for WSU seems low to me. But even if it’s double or triple that, the conclusions remain the same. WSU gets a lot of bang for the buck with Winters.
  25. Very good. Very creative. I laughed too. Vehemently is in my vocabulary. But, I don't believe I've used it in this case. I think that the folks in favor of his hiring are much more emotional. It's just sad for me to think that my alma mater would even consider a D-II coach, with a mediocre record, who was part of a staff who failed here once before. I'm an old guy. I've been around Akron Athletics a long time, and I'd like to think that after 25 years of D-1A football, we should be able to do much, much better than that. Maybe we can't. And it frustrates me, and I am going to voice my frustration. But, thanks for the laugh. I needed that. We disagree on this issue. But we agree on many more. Vehemently just seemed to flow pretty well. I just couldn't resist and I'm glad you're taking it in the spirit in which it was intended
