Is Our Head Coach "Search" a Sham?
johnnyzip84 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
I keep hearing faint echoes of this from various sources. But those sources don't have a record of being consistently accurate. I rate it a faint possibility. Here's my WAG for the "mystery man". Could it be Gary Crowton, who FootballScoop is saying will not be back as Maryland's OC next year? BTW, FootballScoop is also saying that Joe Moorhead will be named Fordham's HC sometime this week. -
The revolving door at Pitt continues to spin. Simply amazing.

Here’s a wee little bit of Christmas humor (and I do mean a wee little bit) for you: What do skip-zip and the Heat Miser have in common? They’re both vehemently opposed to Winters
-
At least you and your buddies will be partying it up And is that any way to treat a CHARTER member of the MAC?

Wow, crazy good hire for Arkansas State....

And Wayne State's nickname is still the Lions according to George, probably because nobody bothered to correct him in the comment section of his first article.

Is Our Head Coach "Search" a Sham?

Thinking about this some more, it’s really just that fourth year at Wayne State that Winters simply cannot duplicate at UA without likely losing his job. I believe most of us, reluctantly perhaps, would swallow three initial seasons similar to 1-9, 3-7, and 6-5 primarily because a winning season at UA would likely mean we’re contending in the MAC an in position for a possible bowl berth. I also think there are some differences with the situation at UA which would help prevent the backsliding from occurring in the fourth season. The buzz created from a winning season will create much more momentum at UA than at WSU. Regardless of success on the field, Wayne State will likely never draw more than a few thousand fans. I also want to be clear that I am perfectly fine with all four of the candidates we’ve heard mentioned the most lately. Stoops, Narduzzi, Johnson, and Winters all give me numerous, but different reasons to be optimistic about the future of the football program. I just have always felt that Paul’s coaching abilities never seemed to get a fair assessment among numerous members of this board over the years for whatever reason. This was certainly the case two years ago when he was just beginning to right the ship at WSU, and it’s still true today despite his recent success. People continue to assume that the coaching challenge at WSU is the same as that as Ashland. They accuse Winters’ supporters of “selectively” picking the best years Paul has had at WSU to access his overall career there. When your best years just so happen to be your most recent years, that’s not being selective. What competent analyst wouldn’t weight more recent data more heavily? They would rather lump all of the LO era coaches into one group and classify them all as losers, instead of recognizing the things that were done well and the things that were not done so well during that time. It’s a whole lot easier to come to these conclusions, because as in most cases the devil is in the details. This whole discussion has no doubt caused me to become somewhat defensive (for Paul, who I have never even spoken to) over the last few weeks, and I apologize for being a repetitive pain in that way. Here’s to turning the Zip ship around regardless of who is the Captain! Go Zips!!! -

Wow! This tells me Gus likes his chances of building a consistent winner at A-State more than at Vandy. Being an Arkansas native is clearly a factor. -
I'm watching UAPB play Michigan tonight, and their style of play (trapping, full and half court pressure defense) could very well make the next game more interesting than one might think by merely looking at their record. Jackson and Townsend are both players. Zips can't afford to sleep on the Lions.

There is a former coordinator out there who once had his offenses in the Top 10 nationally. This former coordinator has also taken a laughing stock from one of the worst teams in their division to the brink of playing in a national championship game. This coordinator has also coached in the MAC so he understands how difficult it is to win somewhere like Akron. Rumor has it, he has close ties to Akron as well. Not another William Riker. 1-9 and 3-7. He was a whopping 4-16 in his first 2 years. How does he follow that? He goes 6-5 in year 3 and follows that up with an impressive 3-8. I am sorry, but if our new coach is 13-29 after 4 years he is as good as fired. We would be screaming from the rooftops to get him out of here. Oh yeah...and this isnt against the SEC, it is D2 ball. Some would argue that the GLIAC is the equivalent of the SEC in D-II. But you bring up a good point. Any new coach gets a mulligan in 2012. But Paul can ill afford to duplicate his first four years at WSU. I believe he'll do considerably better, because there are some advantages he'll have at Akron (much better facilities, the backing of the administration, familiarity with the area, and the experience he gained as a first time HC at WSU) that he didn't when starting his HC career at WSU. -

Exhibit "A" I call your attention to Super Regionals 2 and 3. North Alabama = Excellent D-II Football Tradition with THREE D-II CHAMPIONSHIPS (none with Terry Bowden as coach) Wayne State = All-Time winning percentage of 0.427!! Maybe you ought to consider offering Winters the World? -
New Coach to be Announced via Social Media

Hey, what's this? Canton is making fun of UA again. -
I think the silhouette looks like Joe Dunn.

He's been the most qualified coach on the staff for the past three years, working in impossible conditions with terrible co-workers. I want him as our next DC. I'd be fine with Vince on the next staff, and I think he'd still make a pretty good DC. There were special team problems last year, no doubt. But there was also fairly steady improvement in most areas. And, of course, AJ Fox was "money" by years end. Bring back the 'Stache!

Anyone See A Zips Fan on the Amazing Race Finale?

Hmmmm isn't Buckzip in Georgia? But that guy can't be Buckzip, or else he'd have a Red and Silver top with Zip shorts -

Translation - We couldn't get any traditional media to attend a press conference. YouTube Tom branching out? Cutting-edge stuff. Because they'll still be offended by the "media blackout" -
Per football scoop, Matt signed a 5 year deal at $360,000 per (I assume for year 1?)

I thought this was kind of funny (from football scoop): -
Here is a Detroit News story that discusses PW's approach. If he gets hired here, it doesn't look like too many true freshmen will see the field next year.

Mike Stoops Mark Stoops -
Washington Post Link I think it also is a result of Beckman's original plans to take Campbell and much of the remaining Toledo staff to Illinois. According to many reports, a number of those guys would rather stay with Campbell at UT. It could get interesting between the two.

Not at all. I know a lot of guys that played for Winters and they all absolutely loved the guy. I just want to make sure we are making the best hire. Kind of the think with your head, not with your heart kind of example. I am playing devils advocate in a lot of my responses. If he is the guy we hire I will fully support him and his staff to the fullest. That had BETTER include grilling/smoking every known form of meat before each and every 2012 home game in Lot 9 I did that through Brookhart and Ianello, why stop now? You forgot drink every known brand of beer known to man. Some things are just understood.

I'm OK now. I took an extra zoloft Keep in mind, I wasn't calling for Kazmierski to be a coordinator. And it looks like he's been Wayne State's DL coach and recruiting coordinator for more than a couple years. I understand that if you don't want Winters, you're probably not going to like a staff he'll assemble either. We'll see. Maybe he'll surprise all of us with his staff if he gets the chance to assemble one here.
