  1. Historically...because The University of Akron has no clue how to run a successful D1-A football program. And this is reflected in these rankings of the FBS jobs that became available this year.
  2. No doubt, B&G. But here is where the comment from Beckman about how he thinks Matt is the best recruiter in the MAC hits home. It's one thing for some ND homer like Lemming to call a guy a great recruiter, but it's an entirely different situation when your boss (who probably would prefer to keep you) says it. And it's not like Matt would be recruiting a different type of player at UA vs Toledo. Does he have the organizational skills, like Doug alluded to? That's the $64,000 question.
  3. I owe you a couple of :CK_brew: for that, CK! Ouch!
  4. Point taken, and it looks like they took a slight step back in that regards with Beck in charge in 2011. It's Martinez who is pretty imaginative If we're looking for a coordinator who will (eventually) score lots of points, put an exciting team on the field, and (hopefully) put people in the Info, I still like Campbell the best of the names I've seen so far.
  5. BTW - Thanks to you I can't get this f-ing song out of my head today! To add insult to injury, I can't even see or hear (video's blocked here) the song that I unfortunately stuck in your head I'll have to wait until I get home to see how much (brain) damage I caused!
  6. Beck's Wiki Entry He looks pretty good to me as well. The Huskers have been pretty imaginative on offense lately. You think he can get Martinez to come with him?
  7. I remember listening to the Buffalo game he refenced. I was in the car listening as my wife/kids were shopping. I almost kicked the radio in as the lead was melting away. Gotta love D. Hip.... I seem to remember watching it on TV and having a similar reaction. Can anyone confirm if the game was televized?
  8. Dayton Daily News Article
  9. Fordham is Moorhead's alma mater. Maybe he wants to recreate the “Seven Blocks of Granite”? Hopefully whoever we hire will make a HUGE improvement in OUR offensive line. The 2009-2011 versions were more like the “Seven Slivers of Talc”
  10. Problem solved?
  11. This story says new UAB HC Garrick McGee was "part of the coaching search at Akron".
  12. Sounds too familiar
  13. For the rest of us, the game will be shown online on ESPN3. If you're like me and your internet provider doesn't cooperate with ESPN3, I believe the NCAA sight will once again be streaming the game. Just click on the appropriate game in the bracket.
  14. Who's this new thumbnail chart for? The coach who can only beat the likes of Lake Erie High School. I was comparing the teams that an experienced D-1A coach like Hill has beaten, compared to the types of schools that compete in D-II. If you've ever been there, you'd see what I am talking about. Feel free to keep setting those sights high And if you bothered to check into it, you'd know that Lake Erie didn't join the GLIAC until 2010. They're a far cry from Hillsdale, Saginaw Valley etc. Why no mention of Wayne St beating three consectutive ranked teams, one of them the defending national champs, and all on the road?
  15. As a Zip Soccer fanatic, I'm surprised I've never thought about my obscure favorite team... After some brief research, I'd have to choose FK Partizan from the Serbian Superleague. Nice choice! They've performed relatively well in Champions League. Rooting for a team like this in CL is akin to rooting for a MAC (American) football team against a BCS team.

  17. This article implies a small recruiting budget might be a culprit. @Z.I.P. - You're right, Fresno was plenty good under long-time coach Jim Sweeney too. Ahhh the old PCAA. Now THAT was the original "bombs away", low budget conference
  18. Birmingham City (whether in the Premiership or the Championship) Montreal Impact (especially now that they’re in MLS) Hearts (Heart of Midlothian….gotta love that name) CFR-Cluj (every Zip fan should have at least one obscure favorite team outside of the Big 4 European associations)
  19. So is there any chance the great GP1 might do some in-person, head coach scouting this Saturday in Winston-Salem?
  20. Per his coach in Sundays paper Link "Adam is also starting to get some interest from some Div. I schools," Harbour said. "Toledo and Youngstown State were in this week to talk." Someone needs to tell him YSU is not Div. 1. I know that Wallace has not made any college decisions at this point and that he was at a recruiting event last night. As far as I can gather, neither Akron nor K.E.N.T. has shown serious interest. Maybe that will change with the new Zip head coach. You may recall Vic Whiting, the Stark County coach who ripped Ianello for not recruiting the area very well. Well Norwayne head coach Joe Harbour was previously an assistant for Whiting at Northwest (as were Norwayne assistants Jude LaChance and Vinnie Sette). So it’s likely Ianello would have had a difficult time landing this kid even if he had been interested. Maybe Ianello's firing will make it more likely that Adam becomes a Zip?
  21. Here's an article that summarizes UA's options for Ianello. The fact that Cosgrove made $135K is pretty sickening
  22. It's too bad that NIU lost their best defensive linemen against OU, because Arkansas St is playing very well right now. I agree, these should all provide opportunities for wins, but without checking any odds I believe Temple and WMU might be the only two MAC teams who will be favored heading into these games (Toledo and Air Force should be close). All in all it's been a pretty decent year for any MAC team who wasn't coached by a guy whose name rhymes with jello. I'd like to see the entire conference come through in these bowl games for a change. Okay, with the pay-off fluff. I just wanna know how in the world Western Michigan is going to be favored over Purdue??? That's the one we have the least chance of winning. I'd say NIU and Ohio have the best chances. Wyoming is a very underated team. Air Force is a tough opponent. Too bad none of them get UCLA this year. I'll concede that I overplayed WMU there (expecting them to be favored), but I still believe they'll cruise to victory. I'm not impressed with this team at all.
  23. Then please just tell me you weren't one of the people campaigning for Tressel. He's like the entire baggage claim area at Hopkins airport compared to Pellini. ++ Phew!!!! I was afraid no one would raise that "baggage" claim. Then it might have fallen in the "unclaimed baggage" bin
