  1. He's never coached in any capacity in college. He seems unlikely to be interested in UA as well IMO.
  2. I agree 100%. We Zip fans can be a fickle (no, not a Fickell) bunch. In less than a week, I'm afraid many of us have gone from wanting anyone other than Ianello running the team next year, to wanting Tressel, and only Tressel, running it.
  3. Just thought i'd share. ESPN intern is a little off on the facts. Winters was OC for Lee Owens. He played RB for Jim Dennison.
  4. Almost time to head to Morgantown to save a few sofas from incineration! Go Zips!!
  5. I think DrZ would disagree. I also think JZ84 might disagree. I also think Zips Win! might disagree. My basic position on Tressel is that, due to the dire financial circumstances the football program now faces, I do think it makes sense to attempt to hire him assuming UA can get over the "show cause" hurdle. I say this with great reluctance, however. Rarely are wise decisions made under duress, and I'm afraid this might fall into that category. And it's surprising to me that others aren't at least slightly troubled by the prospects of hiring a guy who has commited violations at both of this head coaching stops. He's 2 for 2. If you dispute these facts, then you're not looking at this situation with enough objectivity.
  6. Who here would like to be UA's Mickey Monus? Any takers???
  7. Elton of the PD has some thoughts. Matt Campbell is intriguing to me. Of course, Eric Page makes him look like a pretty good coach.
  8. He knows the MAC and has won in the MAC. The experience at Kansas only helps him. I would certainly consider him. So would I. He won at Buffalo. Enough said. Turner Gill failed to win at Kansas. Enough said. It took him some time at UB. Kansas should have known they weren't getting a quick fix. We probably can't afford to give a guy like Gill the necessary time however. I'll grant you that.

  10. I posted this in another thread, but realized afterward it really belongs here. For the record, I'm not set on any one individual. As much as I despised Tressel in the past, both at YSU and OSU, I'll admit if there is any chance of hiring him here, UA needs to give it a shot even if it is primarily for financial reasons. Assuming the potential coaching ban is not an issue, I still have a mild concern over whether he can operate the same program as he did at YSU without the threat of NCAA violations occuring here. And if he runs a 100% clean operation, will he necessarily be successful? Aside from these particulars, there is always the possibility that the one time successful "big time coach" simply doesn't get it done at the lower level program (for example Dick Crum at K.E.N.T., and more recently Bill Curry at Georgia St and Larry Coker at UTSA). Still, it's probably a risk worth taking, but there are certainly no guarantees regardless of who gets the job. Oh and one more thing. We can't schedule Slippery Rock and Clarion to open every season like Tressel did back in his YSU heyday.

  12. Nice job winning the tourney in Seattle last night, Lady Zips!!
  13. These are characteristics that I prefer, but they obviously aren't necessarily essential in the new HC: 1) can salvage a decent recruiting class for 2012 2) has head coaching experience 3) runs a tight ship but uses more than just fear as a motivator 4) can adapt his schemes based on the talent he has to work with 5) isn't afraid to take calculated risks
  14. No doubt Tree and Harney are always looking for one another out there. Another impressive thing to me was Tree's defense. The big man was really moving his feet out there tonight! If he puts that kind of effort into every game, his ceiling is pretty high.
  15. Dambrot had D-1 coaching experience, and success before getting boned for being a players coach. Winters is not comparable, sorry. Keep in mind KD was only 20-34 at Central before they let him go. I'm not saying Paul has had exactly the same kind of experience KD had before taking over at UA, but it's not quite the apples and oranges scenario your painting either. Although I've been a Winters supporter for some time, I'm certainly willing to consider Fickell and other possibilities as well.
  16. PD article
  17. Was starting to sweat this one out. Now let's get this ship turned around with EVERYONE on board.
  18. Paul's Wayne St "Road" Warriors continue their strong run in the D-2 playoffs with a 38-26 win at #4 Nebraska-Kearney.
  19. I have been privileged to attend many games in a friend's suite since the stadium opened. They feel that it has been a complete waste of money. Food and drink only go so far. When going to a game--in a luxury suite--is a dreaded weekly burden, something needs to change. My friends and I cannot and will not tolerate another game of Ianello-ball. So, personally speaking, I know of tens of thousands of dollars that the coach is ALREADY costing UA. Not to mention the empty stands and many other suite owners whose renewal notices will go unreturned. College football is a big business. UA better realize that and get in the game....or get out altogether. They're putting a coach and product on the field that's like milquetoaste compared to Cardinal Mooney, Chagrin Falls, Mentor, St. V. It's pathetic, Luis. College is about EDUCATION. If football is all about big business then it should be left to those willing to take financial risk for financial reward. You seem to be OK with others footing the bill in all things. The university to provide your entertainment and your friends to provide access that entertainment. Your attitude is exactly what is wrong with society today. "Give me", "Provide it for me", "I/we deserve it" Ridiculous post. You missed the entire point. How much revenue is UA going to lose holding onto The Grim Reaper as head coach? College may be about education, but college football has nothing to do with education and everything to do with entertainment and revenue generation. I simply don't understand how UA puts ANY butts in the seats other than parents/family anymore. You talk about financial risk. How about the financial risk of building a 68 million dollar football stadium without the ability to sell any tickets to events held there? You're OK with that? You're OK with suite/box subscribers walking away? Football in the MAC generates REVENUE but not INCOME. YES...I am OK suite/box subscribers walking away rather than asking students to subsidize their entertainment. College football is just not that important. Colleges should NOT be in business to provide entertainment. Sorry...you just don't get it. Sports are intended to enhance the student experience. But not at any cost. Mount Union, Xavier, Dayton and other schools have great student experience and don’t ask its students to subsidize football for the entertainment of a few fans. The ship you wish for sailed long ago. FBS college football is almost entirely about revenue generation. While I would agree that maybe it shouldn't be so, this is a FBS program operating in a FBS league. You can advocate that UA should perhaps go small-time in football (aren't we there already?) but UA obviously hasn't figured out what it wants to be. They have spent money on facilities as if they would like to be a larger FBS program and have yet failed to do ANYTHING which would allow for additional revenue generation to support those moves. What exactly is the point of a 68 million dollar stadium? How do you pay for that facility? Do you believe that the advocates for its creation pointed to "enhanced student experience" alone as justification? How much "additional revenue" was anticipated through luxury box sales, catering, team shop sales, tickets, etc? If the Doug Snyder vision were uniformly applied the team would be FCS or smaller, it would play in a stadium seating 10K and would just be a nice little adjunct to Fall weekends. Come to think of it, that would actually be a gigantic improvement over where the program is right now, but still, that's not what UA appeared to be going for when the whole Infocision thing started. Now that the facilities are built and as long as UA is FBS, they must generate revenue. You wish it weren't so, but someone has to pay, and "revenue generators" sure as hell aren't lining up right now are they? That's exactly the reality Dr P faces. There's really no turning back at this point.
  20. Zips are 5 to 5.5 point favorites. This seems to reflect the Abreu suspension/injury. The Titans have struggled somewhat in the early going without Holman's presence underneath, but the Zips can't afford to take anyone lightly at this point.
  21. Do it. Get in . Great scene!
  22. I'd like to think that this (lack of signed recruits so far) is what did him in. If they go ahead and fire him, it's not like the new guy will be losing a ton of recruits. In fact, whomever it could be, he would likely have enough time to salvage a better class than iCoach would have ever signed in 2012.
  23. That thought definitely occurred to me this afternoon.
