Ouch is right! People say last year was bad (and it was). But how that '95 team managed to win 2 games is a mystery. The VT score was humiliating, but I nominate the season finale in Oxford as perhaps the lowest point in Zips D-1 history (G-Webb certainly contends.....as does the home loss to Delaware St). Miami won 65-0 and IIRC they took a knee in Zips territory BEFORE halftime! Let's hope we don't see any of that this year

North Texas hopes to have more initial success than UA. This article compares and contrasts the openings of the Info and UCF's stadium. Youtube Tom's quotes are just a wee bit different than those he made when he first hired Ianello.

Then there's the 1st Zip win over a BCS team!

My wife and I attended this one in Blacksburg. The Zips sure cranked out the yardage that afternoon (checkout the halftime stats), but the D simply couldn't stop Vick, Davis, Suggs and company. But there was possibly the most spectacular interception I've ever witnessed in person when Dwight Smith closed about 25 yards on a deep, open receiver to dive and snag a Vick toss later in the game. This isn't on the video, since it's basically Va Tech highlights. My wife deserves special kudos for this memory, since we attended this on her birthday. It should be mentiond that we managed a trip to Charlottesville the same weekend to see Monticello, Ritchie Tavern etc. Great weekend.

I stumbled on some old video on Youtube and I thought it might be a good idea to keep all footage like this in one place. For the first installment, I present Lavell Bailey's entry onto the stage. The date is August 30, 1997. The Zips have travelled to Lincoln, Nebraska to face the Huskers in a much anticipated (in the Akron area anyway....who can forget the summer billboards) season opener. Not surprisingly, the game gets out of hand before too long. But #88 provides a glimpse of things to come from about the 11:27 mark to around 11:45. I still remember Frenchy's incredulous call and I've always wanted to see the play. Enjoy!

Amazing! The Suburbanite scooped all NEO media?? Well, it initially published on GoZips.com last Friday. The Suburbanite does have an "inside connection" to the Zips in Joe Dunn.

Thanks for the link, ITZ. I was wondering why Jermaine wasn't on Hamilton's roster anymore. Sounds like he's found a much better situation in Edmonton. I had the opportunity for chat with him on numerous occasions after his playing days at UA. He's a very pleasant guy off of the field. It's nice to see him finding success on it.

Akron September opponent's coach in hot water?
johnnyzip84 replied to Dr Z's topic in Off Topic, Smack & Jokes
I am here because I am huge UofA fan. I am starved for information about the Zips athletic programs. What interests me is: who we are recruiting, how Treadwell is doing, insight on Nicely vs Moore and a thoughtful recap/analysis of those who saw a game I was unable to attend. The things I am here for I have little to offer to the debate because I am normally not in the area and no clue as to what is going on...other that what is written in the papers. I did not realize that this site was also for treating other schools unfairly, trashing other schools academic programs (those who do not compete with UofA in sports) and calling fellow Zips "ignorant", "fool", "stupid" and many other personal things because they attended another school and speak up in defense.I know I am old, attended another school and live out of the area....but I root for Can't when they are in the NCAA tournament...it can only enhance the rivalry, MAC and NE Ohio. I root for ALL the area and Ohio schools. And I believe Ohio has a great undergraduate school system…public and private. I will eventually return to Ohio because I want my daughters to go to school here. Great people…good schools and more. Many leave Ohio but few voluntarily return. But I love Ohio and will choose to return.I know there will always be a debate on players, coaches and the type of program we should have and how much money we should be spending. But for me...there is way too much personal bashing and trashing other schools. Even Ex-Zip Charlie Frye gets trashed here.I will have to re-evaluate things because I value your input...maybe this is not for me. As for this thread… BuckZip is wrong. I do not believe it was started to trash OSU. He should just keep quiet and be happy with the knowledge that most athletes would choose OSU if given the chance (except the current soccer program). My nephew did just that after playing 3 years with the Zips.Ooops! I know, you're also a Miami grad but still -
No doubt buoyed by the soccer national championship, the Zips finished #1 out of all 120 FBS schools Link

I have a daughter the same age, and can only imagine what Tyler's family is going through. Certainly they'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Here is an article on Bohan and his excellent play in all-star games over the summer.

I say we meet at the Lizard in Boston Heights...then hit the one in Macedonia...then the one in Independence...then the one across from The Q...then stagger to the Convo. Who's with me? is this on a bus??? ...or are we drinking and driving???Dave offered to be the designated driver. I usually am the designated driver. We can all fit in my car.I don't know, Hilltopper Isn't this what happened the last time we tried this?

Sorry for the delay Coach_KB, but welcome to the board It's perfectly understandable to me that, whether you're a coach, parent, relative or friend of this prospective recruit, you might want to try to gain some "unofficial" information regarding the offense currently being run by the Zips. What the coaches say is one thing. What the fans see and say is another. As has been mentioned before, HC Ianello and OC Latina run a pro style offense that is patterned after the offense Charlie Weis ran while he was at Notre Dame. The offense currently installed at Wisconsin also provides a good comparison. It's common knowledge, of course, that the Zips struggled considerably last season in their 1st year in the offense (Akron ran the spread under JD Brookhart from 2004 to 2009). The team did begin to move the ball more consistently in the latter half of the season, however. Some of the things that stood out to me are as follows:1) The fullback and the tight end are integral to the UA offense. Each position will recieve "looks" in the passing game.2) The power running game will remain a focus.3) The Zips like to try to stretch the field with their wideouts.4) Up to this point, we haven't seen much in the way of trickery or taking unusual risks from this coaching staff.5) It is imperative that the Zips offensive line QB and WRs execute much better in 2011 for the team's record to improve. This offense requires the QB to complete 60-65% of his passes in order to succeed. There are some promising new players for 2011 who will hopefully begin to turn that around. Everyone will need to play their part. Thanks for stopping by!

I thought the same thing. Not a Zips fan.lol learn how to take a joke. Two words: situational awareness

Second round of conference expansion is beginning.

Bump. Here is an interesting article on the continuing issues the Big 12 (and all of college football) is struggling with. With various programs already on probation and/or under investigation, the recruiting advantages offered by having your own network will probably get plenty of scrutiny. In the end, I don't think the NCAA can do much about it however. GP1's been a proponent of a Top 40 division and adding another division between FCS and FBS. Whether this occurs or not I don't know, but one thing is certain. The landscape will continue to rapidly change over the next few years. I don't want to see it, but the secession of the largest programs from the NCAA isn't that far fetched to me. -
A pretty bad one.I was hoping we all might resist the temptation to post a wise crack here. If one assumes Coach_KB is asking a legitimate question for a potential recruit he has some connection to (and I take all newbies seriously unless given a good reason to do otherwise), what kind of attitude is that from a supposed Zips fan? Why not save the negativity for another thread? It's not like there aren't enough of them from which to choose.

Anyone with ANY Zips hoops news?

Here's a story on one of the Canadian opponents (Sheridan). -
I don't have a reply. I just wanted to make sure you couldn't go back and edit this absurd statement.

Now head coach at Lamar, Pat says he hasn't "had this much fun since he was in Akron". Was he on the bench for Andrick vs. Hipsher I?

Try this in your address bar:http://cincinnati.com/blogs/preps/2011/06/...r-james-turner/If he can just lose a couple of inches he will be perfect for us at cornerback. Thanks, but the blog you posted is a little old (6/21/2011). The one I was trying to post made specific mention of a visit this Thursday. OK, I reposted the link below and it now appears to be working.Link

Based on THIS, I predict Fairfield LB/S James Turner will be iCoach's 1st commit of the 2012 class.Edit: the link isn't working, but it's a Cincinnati blog that says he's visiting UA this Thursday.

I worked downtown Cleveland in the mid to late 80's and a group of us would go to Otto's every few weeks. They were known for their chili I think. We would have gone more but you had to get there early...or have a long wait. LOL I think I will stop by just to have lunch there sometime soon just to relive a moment of the past. You will not be disappointed in the food if you choose this place...but it does seem a bit far from CSU.Are you basing this on your previous experiences there in the 80's? Because, although I've never been there, it appears as though it may have moved to the Theatre District in recent years. If you "Google" their address (1425 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44115), it doesn't look far to the Wolstein Center at all.

Just to wet the appetite ahead of lunch, here is Otto Moser's MENU

I know it's not psc2009's list, but how in the world is Brian Wagner on the Nagurski watch list and NOT on the Butkus watch list????
