  1. Who holds more Akron passing records, Charlie or Luke? Doesn't Luke have most td's in a season? Frye has all time passing yards I think. Of course he played twice as many games as Luke. I can't seem to find akron all time passing records with a google search. Well, I thought this would be easy, I'll just go to GoZips.com and look it up. The most recent version of the football media guide that actually had a working link was from 2007. At least that would work for the Getsy/Frye comparisons. Strictly based on the fact that Luke only had two years in the program, Frye leads him in almost every category (except things that are game based, like passing yards per game - Getsy is ahead of Frye). Also as of that date, Fyre and Getsy owned the top ten passing yardage performances in UA history, and 16 of the top 20. For comparisons of thier stats you can go here. Just don't expect anything newer (sigh). Edit: OK, how did you find that, what sort of insider information do you have? There isn't a direct link from the football media guide page to the 2010 Guide. OK, jot this down 1) enter GoZips.com 2) click on Football from "Sports" pulldown menu 3) click on Media Guide heading (3rd from left, next to News and Game Notes) 4) click on Akron Football Media Supplement (on the right of the image of iCoach) What could be more straightforward?

  3. Very tough call. I went with Evan Bush for longevity and what he meant to the teams of his era.
  4. Link Had to go with JT on this one.
  5. I went with Eric McLaughlin for all-around floor leadership, hustle, clutch play, winning, and entertainment. But I'm with ZW. There's a certain player on the current roster who has a chance to put an emphatic lock on this for a very long time. I sure hope he does!
  6. Well it's certainly no surprise. Listening to Robert Smith on ESPN right now and he's spinning it the way most Red & Silver faithful probably will....Tressel just couldn't watch the continuing damage being done to the reputation of the school. Whatever! He'll apparently never own up to his actions. But that probably won't stop him from writing a few more books. Luke Fickell likely being the interim coach next year is an interesting twist.
  7. More on Ampai's excellent game against Chicago
  8. The corrosion program gets some interesting visibility amidst recent manipulations of congress.
  9. Romeo looks to have had a nice season playing in Israel. Same for Dru in Germany. And Jimmal Ball still competes in France.
  10. I'm right there with the pooch and the tyke! BUT, just thought I'd give you a little preview of what to expect. I know, I know. It was against the Zip Defense, bla bla bla. We'll just have to wait and see how much difference that makes. Go Zips!!! ps. Looks like this was from last season while he was red-shirting since Dylan Potts appears to be handing off. I'm thinking the staff has known all along what that had with Jawon. But since he came in late, and Bowers (another FR RB) had already been committed to play, they perhaps figured it wasn't worth burning his RS last year. I'd say that was a smart move.
  11. He made the all league team as forward of the year!
  12. What about the other 49? Former OSU basketball player Mark Titus wrote Tuesday on his blog that the perks within the football program are far from a secret."Any OSU student in the past five years could tell you that a lot of the football players drive nice cars," Titus wrote. "You'd have to be blind to not notice it."Small said there was no shortage of people trying to help Ohio State athletes. "Everywhere you go, while you're in the process of playing at Ohio State," Small said, "you're going to get a deal every which way." Source Here's a little more of the same.
  13. OK, I don't usually do this sort of thing (because I'm wrong at least as often as I'm right lol) but I predicted a big year for Shawn Lemon last season and he more or less came through. My "flyer" for 2011? Hasan Hazime. Mark it down, he'll be 1st or 2nd team ALL-MAC.
  14. The Michigan Bucks? Only slightly more improbable than The Akron Golden Flashes.
  15. Nice read, Cap'n If a guy has the right frame (as Pughsley appears to), I believe the O-line is one of the better opportunities for him to make himself into a player through hard work and dedication.
  16. Good point. Although Will Bruin made the list and he was drafted behind 5 Zips.
  17. First let me be clear that I'm not trying to be negative towards the program. I just think it bears some thought as to how well (or not so well) the UA draftees have done so far in the MLS this season. Certainly each of these players can expect some scrutiny based on the unprecedented number of high picks coming from one NCAA program last year. Here is one article covering the top MLS newcomers for 2011. Note the absence of any former Zips from the 2011 class. Valentin and Kitchen seem to be getting the most playing time. I know injuries have had a big impact. Still, I think this emphasizes that Caleb is much more than a recruiter. It'll be interesting to see if MLS teams downgrade future Zip players (just a tad) in upcoming drafts.
  18. Depends on what you mean by "own" I suppose. I've heard the same thing many times, so I'm glad you looked it up
  19. I'm not sure where this belongs exactly, but I know we've had discussion as to who is on scholly for next year. Read this article in today's ABJ about halfway down to see the summary.
  20. Although the Beacon's coverage has definitely improved, I voted for other. In my case, "other" is Google.
  21. And the answer is.......OUI!
  22. This article mentions the game at UCSB will be on Fox Soccer Channel. Sorry if this has been mentioned before.
  23. Evan Bush should play some for Montreal in a friendly tomorrow night versus the Red Bulls.
