Was in Pittsburgh the last few days and had a chance to read the "Post-Gazette Fabulous 22". So far, UA hasn't landed any of them, but Christian Brumbaugh is on our Scout list. He doesn't have any FBS offers yet, but I did read where he wants to study mechanical engineering. I know UA's College of Engineering has helped land a few kids in the past, so hopefully this gives us an edge (if iCoach wants to offer). Christian leads undefeated South Fayette into the Class AA WPIAL championship on Saturday. Edit: Christian threw for 2 TDs to lead South Fayette to the WPIAL Class AA Title. This puts them in the state semi-finals of Class AA.

Looks pretty good to me The Line is now EVEN.

I sent him a similar email B&G. I asked if Martin, Winters, Bohl (NDSU), or Farley (Northern Iowa) would be considered. He did answer me with something like a few of those were being considered, but that I would REALLY like the guy they had in mind. I had another work email address at the time, so I don't have that response anymore Did you receive a similar response?

Maybe he's Doug's cousin. Or <-- his cousin Sadly, he of course is the former Grand Valley St. HC that a few of us wanted at UA almost 1 year ago. Perhaps the good news is that Grand Valley has OK without him?

Potential K.E.N.T. Candidates Among them are current K.E.N.T. DC Pete Rekstis, ZipRoo's man-crush Luke Fikell, and CHUCK FREAKIN MARTIN! I sure hope it's not the 3rd guy.

Disappointed that I will be out of town for this one, but hope to follow it closely just the same. It would be nice if Nik & Nitro continue to put the ball in the hoop, but I agree with most that the game will be won by the team what rebounds and defends better. I predict a "semi-break-out" game from Abreu.....say 8 points and 7 assists.

Scout List of Prospects Apparently, Bre was at the Miami game last week. My nephew goes to Bethel Park High School, so I am pretty excited about landing Bre. Welcome aboard! Hey if we land the "other" Brumbaugh kid from PA, we'd have TWO Brumbaughs in the 2011 class. What other team could say THAT????

Early forecast is a cold one. I predict an abundance of hot, hearty food in Lot 9 and plenty of anti-freeze. It's a little difficult to tell, but the early line is apparently even or has the Zips favored by 1.

I watched some of the championship against Huggins' WVU squad, and the Gophers front line of Mbakwe, Sampson III, and Iverson are going to be a HUGE challenge for the Zips. Here is CNNSI's coverage.

Watching Tony Dorsett effortlessly glide across the carpet at Pitt Stadium as a teenager cemented my addiction to college football in general. After high school I decided to go away for college (Engineering) and UA was my choice. I attended a few games per year as an undergrad (including some time in the long-defunct card section), but really picked it up a few years after graduating when my kids were old enough to enjoy Zippy and the other festivities. I have two degrees from UA and I’ve also been an adjunct instructor there, so my ties are now well established. The kids are young adults now, so my wife and I have the time to attend every home game and usually one or two road games as well. I’m sure every football program has its share of memorable moments, but the ones (good and bad) that stand out for me (snow bowl, MACC, MCB, loser bowl, Western miracle, Miami taking a knee in the 1st half, meltdown against K.E.N.T. in LO’s last season, behind 3-2 at the half to the Red & Silver, winning at NC State & Syracuse, Alcorn’s 56 yarder, etc) are so indelibly stamped into my Zip “fanhood”, that I cannot imagine ever rooting for anyone else with the same passion. It’s an incurable disease, I’m afraid. I also firmly believe that eventually we will enjoy happy times for Zip football (not saying when or for whom). These will make enduring seasons like 2010 worthwhile. In fact, seasons like this will make the good times just that much sweeter.

Their "out" is to transfer to a lower division and play immediately. Or transfer to another D-1 school and sit for a year. And that year costs a season of eligibility if that player had redshirted. It is a bum deal for the student athletes. Coaches can come and go as they please, but the player's options are comparatively unfair. If players had the same freedom as the coaches, however, I think it would be anarchy. The "diamonds in the rough" that a MAC school might uncover, would be likely to be "recruited" to BCS programs after said BCS program saw what they could do on the field. My take - the players are stuck. It's an unfair, but necessary evil. Worst case (i.e. being a 2010 Zips football player), you still gets a free education, and get to play football for 4 years, which is really cool when you're 18 - 23 years old. You get a personal trainer... great practice facilities...food....housing...it isn't like their rowing in the bowels of a boat... Ok...maybe it is just a little... Did I just hear iCoach yell "RAMMING SPEED!!!"

I think the fact that they interviewed alum Paul Winters probably helped the score as well. I believe they're looking at the whole interview process, not just who got the job.
-
I don’t think there’s any question the Zips would have gone for two if they had scored the TD. But this doesn’t negate Dr Z’s original point that he would have liked to see them to run a little more clock before the potential score. Let’s say the lucky Miami defender (taking cornbread’s word on this) doesn’t slip and LaFrance makes a clean catch and scores. Even if the Zips convert for 2 points, this wouldn’t have changed Miami’s thinking much. The Sweaters still would have had about 1:30 to, first and foremost, get the ball in FG range to at least send the game to OT.

I agree with you that the Zips will defeat U@B. Andy Alleman more or less guaranteed it! I sure hope Zach Campbell gets out of this funk though. He must have let CK's praise get to his head!

Word on the street was - Hall was suspended. Also - I heard the no-huddle was suspended for the first 10 games. Well that's sort of a relief...I was fearing he may have gone the way of Georgio Bowers. on the no-huddle quip
-
I'm in agreement as well. We just came up short last night. One question I have: where is Richard Hall????? OK TWO questions: Where has the no-huddle been all year?
-
Careful there, Skip. You just might dislocate your shoulder
-
6 pack? You easily got time for 12! Now that's the enthusiam we need to see on the field tomorrow night! Throw in a couple of DReal patented machine gun blasts.... :gun: Go Zips!!! I am thinking at least a 12 pack! and maybe some apple pie! Mmmmmm that apple pie was delicious....like a slice of genuine Americana. How did you get the crust to be so flaky? Betty Freakin' Crocker should be so lucky!
-
Actually, I believe the interception occured on the first play they ran with a huddle (after having the success with the no-huddle). ps. we NEED to see more of the no-huddle against Buffalo. Nicely and the rest of the offense looks much more relaxed in it.

9-7 mph wind Shouldn't be much of a factor I suppose. Oh well, let's take our chances with the QB who spurned the Red & Silver turning it over a few times
-
Well the Zips DO have considerably better rushing stats than the Sweaters. If it remains windy, this could be a factor. UA Stats MU Stats
