  1. This is what inspired the poll
  2. The newspaper you linked about all those JUCO players signing. Gotcha. I guess I just figured since today was JUCO mid-year signing day the newspaper was providing the best information they had at the time (in terms of where these guys were going to sign). Seems like a reasonable approach to me. Do you think the paper used the message board post as its source? Seems more likely to me that Clayton let select people know of his intentions, and word leaked to the board before the paper could print its story.
  3. Zip_Watcher must have enjoyed the following comment on the UMass board:
  4. To what "journalistic reports" are you referring? One thing that strikes me is the lack of Clayton being directly under center in any of the highlights I've seen. Not that I necessarily want to see that, but iCoach seemed to be headstrong about this in 2010 (even when PN7 looked far more comfortable in the shotgun). Maybe iCoach will be less adamant about this, regardless of who plays, in 2011? It's not like you can't run a pro-style offense with the shotgun as a predominant formation. NFL teams, particularly those playing catch up, do it all of the time.
  5. It's catchy. I like it.
  6. Interesting. I'll wait a bit to see if anything official beyond "expected to sign" comes up. If he does sign, it's great news. While it's nothing official, the most recent entry on this board seems to confirm his commitment. There are some interesting posts on here. Sounds like this guy has SEC talent, but ran into some issues while still playing in HS Here's hoping UA provides a good opportunity for him to prove something to himself and his doubters.
  7. It seems to me that a mid-major generally needs to knock down a few outside shots to pull off the bigger upsets. Where is the threat of an outside scorer in this starting five?
  8. Looks like we may have landed The Lone Ranger BTW, I am not among those who have given up on PN7. But clearly getting a JUCO in here was a prudent move on the part of the staff. Well done!
  9. Wish I had seen this before I returned my office pool bowl picks (I picked Toledo and Miami to win their games) He sure did a nice job this year, but time will tell whether Haywood winds up being another name to bolster the "cradle of coaches" reputation.
  10. Evidence that he's trying
  11. Article in Santa Barbara Paper
  12. Cincinnati Colerain QB Tyler Williams verbals to Akron Scout Profile He'll probably play WR/RB here, much like Gary Pride (who also played QB at Colerain).
  13. Okay, let's see what kind of recruiter iCoach is going to be here at Akron. Can he out recruit Dave Christensen at Wyoming? No doubt this will be a nice recruiting test for iCoach and Powlus. I sure hope a gulf coast guy like Clayton realizes it's generally not this miserable up here this time of year (if he does happen to visit over the next few days). Of course if he's considering Laramie, then this is probable a moot point. I wonder if there's an available "Tonto" out there at wide receiver?
  14. Glad it wasn't Chuck Martin. True, but that leaves him available for K.E.N.T. although I don't think he'll seriously consider them.
  15. Wisconsin DC Dave Doeren to NIU
  16. Another ESPN Summary Have to love the following quote from Caleb:
  17. Nice Article on Caleb from his home-town press.

  19. +1 makes perfect sense to me!
  20. Sometimes truth is indeed stranger than fiction. A year ago, who envisioned the Zips getting the monkey off their back by beating ex-coach Ken Lolla and his Louisville Cardinals in the final? I always liked Ken and thought of him (much like Caleb) as being just as much an ambassador for the game as he is a head coach. In his early years at Akron I attended a coaching clinic in Jackson to get my E license, and lo and behold it was Ken Lolla who ran the show. I would like nothing better than to see the Zips and Cards develop a nice rivalry in the sport. It seems like a natural now that the ice has been broken, even though a year ago it may have seemed like an episode from The Twilight Zone. Speaking of the Twilight Zone, as Ken has gotten a little older he’s starting to look a little like the creator of that ground-breaking show. Or am I just getting overly excited for the Sci-Fi Channel’s New Year’s Day Twilight Zone Marathon?
  21. Story on Moore.
  22. Congratulations Zips in bouncing back from mid-season adversity and climbing all the way back up the mountain. Go Zips!!
  23. ... JD Brookhart. ... Lee Owens. JD was both a player (WR at Colorado St.) and an offensive coordinator (Pitt). Owens graduated from Blufton, but I'm not sure about his playing status. I didn't see the "player" specification. My bad. And I thought JD was the WR coach, not the OC? JD's Wiki He became Pitt's OC in 2000.
  24. Probably a little fortunate to be even right now. Mattocks has to do more with his opportunities. I look for Nagbe to make a difference in the 2nd half.
