  1. Thanks Zach and zipsfan13! No problem! Nice stop on 4th down! That's my first "bone"!
  2. If he's this bad at watching film of us, maybe we do have a chance. The O-line is our strength, seriously? Hmmmm let's see if I can remember my long division. 2 goes into 241....1 hundred....multiply by 2 and subtract.....2 goes into 41....two tens or twenty.......multiply by 2 and subtract...remainder of 1....divide this by two to get one half. That comes to a grand total of 120 and 1/2 points. Shazam!! I'm a bettin' the Zips and takin' the 120 and 1/2 points!!
  3. the dude they found for that halftime contest thing for the Syracuse game last week looked better... Although he was a bit of a "ringer" for the contest (played soccer and PK for the Northwest football team last year), I wouldn't mind seeing him try out. You don't see a lot of left footed placekickers for some reason.
  4. I'm just going off the fact that they haven't had a winning season in god knows how many years, even in 3 years with Locker. Maybe this is the year they turn the corner, but losing to BYU to open the season doesn't say much. I thought the Huskies were expected to be better, but the big BYU loss to Air Force doesn't make Washington's loss to BYU look very good I must admit.
  5. 'Cuse was in position to at least tie the game right before halftime when Nassib fumbled. That turned out to be the ball game. Isn't it a little premature to call Washington a "bad team" based on (presumably) a 6 point loss at BYU? Edit: check that.....just saw BYU lost big to Air Force.....perhaps ITZ has a point.
  6. I think their man board is the rivals board. Some predictions from there as well: http://kentucky.rivals.com/showmsg.asp?fid...888&style=2 Their defense must be pretty bad. They all seem to think we're gonna score some points. Their 1st poster stole my score!
  7. With the Joker preoccupied with UA's run game, Nicely has a solid outing to keep the final score respectable at 42-24.
  8. Oh Zipmeister........here Zipmeister......another possible nominee for the irony award? irony is so...well ironic...especially when the word is used in the incorrect context...the context here is vulgarity on this site..please enlighten the great unwashed... Psssst....hey Lee, check the BOLD TYPE
  9. Oh Zipmeister........here Zipmeister......another possible nominee for the irony award?
  10. hahaha Hopefully, first bone of many... The Akron Zips will receive the ball in at least one half of every ball game under iCoach from this point on. I call that one, the "Wishbone"
  11. It is extremely unlikely that iCoach will get fired after only one season, let alone during this season, unless he does something to shame himself and/or the university OFF of the field (see Mike Price at Alabama). Shameful on-the-field behavior is, unfortunately, in play. That’s why many of us find ourselves revisiting the original hiring decision: we know, deep down, he’s here for a while regardless of the results. It’s also particularly hard to stomach a long rebuilding process, when I don’t recall Rob claiming this to be HIS perception of the situation at ANY time since he was hired. Now that win-loss expectations have been lowered considerably, I merely ask the staff to “throw us a bone” from week to week. I define “bone” merely as the slightest indication (during that week’s game) that we shouldn’t expect 3 long seasons followed by yet another head coaching search. During and after the Syracuse game, I was somewhat content to chew on the aggressive 4-3 defense “game bone” to tide me over. But those blasted Runnin’ Bulldogs ran away with our bone this week!! What could the Kentucky “bone” be? How about a clean slate on special teams? Or a big pass play downfield? Or a freshman making a big play when given the chance? BTW Rob, it’s OK to throw MULTIPLE bones too. Go Zips!!! Go Wayne St Warriors!
  12. In a good year, playing the likes of Stony Brook and Coastal Carolina, GWU goes 6-5. They are not a quality football team even in their own division. This was the worst loss the Zips have taken since I've been a fan, and that's going on 25 years... The one that comes close in my mind is the Delaware St debacle of 1987.
  13. What about the new strength program the players are on? They all seemed to be in love with it. Nicely was quoted as saying that it has made them "bigger, faster, stronger" about a week before the season. To me it seems to have had the opposite effect. It's got to be either the placebo affect or sabotage by eguins buddy Cochran I'm not ready to concede that this team doesn't have talent. I need to see SOME level of competency from this staff before I can reach that conclusion. ITZ, we are of the exact same mind regarding the type of coach who SHOULD have been hired. Your point about what Winters has accomplished in the gridiron abyss that WAS Wayne St University isn't lost on me. He hasn't been named GLIAC COTY twice for nothing. He's also coached a Harlon Hill winner. But I understand he's got to be one of the most polarizing figures ever on this board. Zach brings up a good point about the spread in college. Isn't there a reason why the majority of successful teams run it?
  14. Maybe a former player for the Director of Basketball Operations position. I would love to see Cedrick Middleton come back if playing in Europe doesn't work out for him. Any chance Dials would change his mind about working for the Sweaters? I know I'll get hammered for this, but it looks like the rats are abandoning the ship, like ASAP. Don't look outside your portals Zips fans, but that thar is an iceberg! One assistant coach moves on to a better position and a kid who graduated from the program 2 years ago and was never reported as having been offered a position on the staff takes a job with another school and the rats are abandoning the ship? Not sure I buy that. We've lost assistant coaches before (Shaka Smart and Jeff Boals both come to mind). I actually take it as kind of a compliment. Tells me that Dambrot is surrounding himself with good people and theres some recognition out there for the quality of program that we have been running here. Unless you are privy to some information that I'm not, I don't see how this is really an indication of a larger underlying problem. Not talkin bout one assistant coach Qz. Talkin about wholesale "changes", none of which at dis time appears mo bettah. KD is one of my favorite Akronites, no doubt, but my view from da i-lawns says da nex'two years are make or break time for UA BB. Unless Gamechanger's li'l one becomes a MAC POY type in the off season of one season, I don't see things gettin any better than last year. 4th place is not an unrealistic pick, given the circumstances. What does Dylan Ennis know that you don't? This may be your opinion, but I'd like to see guys like Euton, Gilliam, Egner, Abreu, Treadwell, etc, actually play together before I'd draw that conclusion.
  15. But the rain isn't called for until later in the day. It looks like it should be fine for pre-game tailgating and the game itself. Tomorrow's Weather Who cares if it rains on the Red & Silver?....or Hurricanes on them for that matter
  16. It's far from a done deal, but it looks like the Big East wants Villanova to compete in football. If this happened, I have to believe Temple would not be too happy about it. CNNSI Article Here is the ESPN story. It looks like a real possibility by 2014.
  17. Doesn't the larger "guarantee" necessary to bring in a better known foe have something to do with the premium ticket price?
  18. Not trying to blast away or even change your mind, but you do realize that general admission tickets are $15 for every home game EXCEPT Syracuse?
  19. It used to be that games between FBS (1-A) teams and FCS (1-AA) teams were "off the board" in terms of betting. I have noticed this year that some of these contests now have published point spreads. This USA Today page lists two establishments that have UA as an 11 point favorite over G-W. This seems a little low to me, but who really knows. Edit: Looking a little closer, it seems it's only the 5Dimes site that consistently provides a spread for FBS vs. FCS games.
  20. Inglorious Zippers 38 Runnin' Away Bulldogs 3
  21. If you believe the fans sites, the majority of Syracuse fans think the team is night and day different today as compared with 2 years ago. This has been a consistent opinion through the off-season, based on improved play last year, particularly down the stretch. They blame the recent downturn completely on former head coach Greg Robinson, and they have a compelling argument. Marrone certainly seems like a huge upgrade, and isn't coaching a big part of the equation? They have a big test in Seattle this weekend. Jake Locker and the Huskies will be fired up after the close loss at BYU. If the Orange can make it respectable, I think it portends well for their bowl aspirations. If they somehow pull off the upset, it may even turn them into Big East contenders seeing as how the expected top programs have struggled out of the gate. BTW if Syracuse DOES make a bowl this year, I wouldn't be surprised to see them paired with Temple (assuming the Owls qualify). Then we might get to see which of these teams is better this year.
  22. I think it's a good possibility (Bowers, although he seemed to get a little dinged on special teams). The Depth Chart vs. Gardner-Webb doesn't offer any information. This looks to be completely unchanged from last week. Would the real depth chart go completely unchanged after a disappointing start? It seems more likely that it just didn't get updated for our purposes.
  23. Excellent review, Mark. Glad you seemed to enjoy yourself as much as I did in Syracuse in 2008. While working at the job I held at the time, I kept a picture from that Zip victory (the low point for you guys, I know) as my computer desktop background. The picture showed Andre Jones clearly beating his man for his 2nd TD of the game. The number of the badly burned defender was none other than #35. Well, when this same Mike Holmes took back the blocked FG for a TD this past Saturday, I thought to myself (after the sting had subsided) that here's a guy who has really worked hard to improve his game. He played a solid overall game. Opponent or not, that sort of effort leaves an impression on me. I hope he has a great remainder of the season as I do the rest of the Orange. Oh and thanks for trying to bring some sanity to the ticket price discussion. Perhaps you also realize that the Syracuse game is even the ONLY $20 GA game in 2010; the rest are $15 for GA. I think the ticket price furor here is largely entwined with the dissatisfaction with the coaching staff/athletic department. There probably wasn't one person on this board who was excited when the hiring on Ianello was announced (with the possible exception of the AD). Of course it's way too early to tell how he will pan out, but the poor showing in the opener probably reinforced some negative perceptions. If the Zips had played well in defeat, like SU did in Marrone's 1st game against N'Western, the attitude might be a little different. It'll take at least a few good results to change this. You're right about our nice stadium. I'm thankful it's been built....in fact I like to tell my wife and buddies on the way out or in "they can't tear the thing down now, no matter what". I will enjoy it as long as I am able. Good luck against Washington this Saturday and the rest of the season. I also hope we play again soon. I want a return trip to Clark's Ale House and The Blue Tusk. After all, if someone had said to me way back when this 2 for 1 series was 1st signed that they'd give me one Zip win out of the three games, I would have said "where do I sign?".
  24. Here is what is written in JMU's "The Breeze". UA is mentioned towards the bottom.
