  1. Why? Joe Flacco and Rich Gannon have done pretty well for themselves. Luke Getsy did. I like the proposal to allow BCS transfers to non-BCS teams without having to sit out a year. Of course it may only be allowed to happen if and when GP1's "new division" appears.
  2. I've done the restaurant alone numerous times on business travel. Now with many restaurants serving food at the bar, sitting here (at the bar) and having dinner is pretty commonplace (and much less weird feeling). I haven't done the solo movie....yet.
  3. I'm not so sure Nate Davis' family would agree
  4. In reading some of the recent comments regarding us Zip "diehards" and the dilemmas we sometimes face, I became curious as to how often we have ended up at the game by ourselves. I know I've had it happen in the 4 to 6 range over the years.
  5. It's time (maybe past time) to start looking ahead. From this article, it's possible the Zips will see a couple of freshmen at RB for the Running Bulldogs. Link1 Gaffney's article in today's Beacon says GW has 19 returning starters. The 28-14 opening day win over Brevard doesn't sound too impressive though. Link2
  6. I saw THIS on Bleacher Report and I thought it was somewhat humorous.

  8. Saw this today. I'd be careful scheduling CAA teams myself. I presume it's at the Info, if indeed this is an accurate story. Zips to Play James Madison in 2014 As I check into JMU a little more, they're in the midst of a stadium expansion to 25,000 (JMU Stadium). Maybe we'll wind up aligning ourselves with the serious MAC football schools and those in CAA who have higher aspirations (whether this be in lower echelon FBS or GP1's "new division" is irrelevant)?
  9. Before Zipmeister short circuits, I'm going to blame this one on the New York accent. I have to believe he was saying "defer" (as in defer the choice on kicking or receiving until the 2nd half). It's interesting that he didn't call out the O-line in public. Maybe because the injuries there have been a major concern of his. Hopefully the play will improve here while they develop some depth at the same time.
  10. Regarding #1 and #2, the attrocious play of the O-line (has there ever been a unit at UA that has as steadily digressed as this one has from the end of the 2008 season until now?) no doubt hampered Nicely from getting into any sort of rhythm. The really frustrating thing to me is that we were often keeping one or two TEs and a fullback in for added protection, and they were STILL able to get through. On these occasions, this left only a 2 or 3 receivers downfield making it pitifully easy for the Orange DBs to lock them down. Still I do think he also held onto the ball too long a number if times. Now I also happen to think Syracuse's D-line is quite good. The pressure they brought seemed to bother PN7, even on the few plays where he had adequate time. I'd say that besides accuracy, he probably could use some improvement in the area of mental toughness (I can hear the Denison era "MTXE" - mental toughness extra effort - mantra as I type this). Hopefully Powlus etc can work on this. Regarding #3 to #5, I think the play calling didn't help in this area. It was the 3rd quarter before the staff FINALLY called a screen pass to Burney to try to keep the Orange honest. And the lack of throwing to the TE's has already been pointed out. The passing attack seemed to be pure vanilla, when it called for a little spumoni, neapolitan, rocky road, and rainbow sherbet. Regarding #14, I just love it how some posters are assuming that the 2010 Syracuse team will be just like the ones from recent years past. As if the world of college football doesn't change from year to year, particularly when a coaching change has recently been made. The Orange closed 2009 strong. Their coach helped develop one of the most successful offenses ever seen in the NFL. The only question was whether he could recruit or not. Well IMHO, forget the blasted Scout and Rivals rankings, the new players for the Orange this year are VERY good. The O-line is big and physical. The D-line is athletic. That true FR linebacker Spruill is OUTSTANDING. I'm not saying there ready to win the Big East, but this year's team will win at least 6 games and spring some upsets along the way. Regarding #16 to #18, I keep thinking "what if" JD had ever given in to a 4-3 defense, especially with the personel that we have now. I know the safeties had some trouble and there is room for improvement but I REALLY enjoyed watching this defense run to the ball and makes plays. I see NO reason not to expect them to continue to play well through 2010. If the offense can improve at all the defensive yards allowed will reduce significantly. Go to any board where Orange fans are present. Most were quite impressed by Akron's front 7. Regarding #21 and #25, I agree 100%. I thoroughly enjoyed the pre-game festivities in Lot 9. Thanks to Zipswin and CK for making me and my party feel right at home. I got to meet Brian Wagner's family and really enjoyed them. It was a Dreal treat to finally meet Dreal and his family as well. Note to the Meister, Dreal told me the Zippy costume comment was just him pulling one over on the Meister. We hope to have as much fun for Gardner Webb
  11. Wow, a 5-0 cumulative score. That's about as good as it gets. Nice job, men!
  12. Must be getting a little chippy....4 yellows in the last 8 minutes (2 each)

  17. The new media guide's here! The new media guide's here! We're SOMEBODYYYYYYY! GoZips Link
  18. I've seen the obvious comparison elsewhere, and no doubt there is a striking similarity (perhaps even a rip-off), but the Black Keys song is just enough different to make it work in Akron.
  19. It'll be none other than Andy Alleman. Link
  20. First let me say that BY FAR, the most important thing is for the Zips to play well tomorrow. With that being a given, what other things would ZNO like to see in the way of "extras" as in music, band performance, PA announcer, etc. Just to get the ball rolling, here is a song by Akron's own Black Keys that I think has "sports anthem" written all over it. I think it might be in the NHL 2011 video game.
  21. Should be there around 1:00 ourselves. While not exactly going with an Orange theme, I might have a few "Orange" secret weapons at my disposal
  22. We're getting outnumbered pretty handily over at ESPN conversation.
  23. I'll follow up on those two points... First, I don't care what 11 guys are on the field for us defensively, and what their position says in the program. We just better be a lot better at tackling than we've been with many of these same guys on the field the last couple of years. Secondly, I'm wondering when we suddenly became a team with good talent several guys deep. We've struggled with that ever since our arrival as a 1-A school. And even if that situation has improved, I'd still question whether our talent on the bench is topping BCS level programs. there has been a lot of talk about how this defense has a lot of talent in some places. But,they have just not been able to stop people and take over a game when its been needed. Unless the entire unit plays at a significantly higher level the offense won't be able to score enough points. Syracuse won last year with a bad team. With Carter at RB this will give a good indication as to whether the Zips have progressed on the defensive side of the ball... I agree, Lee. We'll find out, one way or another, if the defense has improved as much as some (including myself) think. BTW, here is an interesting article on the switch to the 4-3.....courtesy of The Daily Orange. I know.......kinda crazy when the opponent's media can provide better information than our own. Link
  24. Here's a Syracuse icon who will be at the game. Link
